G day guys

Just looking to see what others have done in the past. I would like to install a 2.5 inch lift and 35 inch tyres to a jk four door wrangler. Internet seems to think that engineering 35s might not happen, has anyone got any experiences they wouldn't mind sharing.

I normally wouldn't worry, however this is a new car so id like to make sure that if anything did happen that it would be covered by insurance.

cheers guys
Dan

i believe that if you wish to lift your truck more that 50mm you will need to have it engineered. this will include a swerve test. do a search, vehicle engineering recommendations are on here.

Yeh that's as much info as I have managed to find, Ive emailed a couple of engineers as they weren't around when I called, more so looking to see if anyone has managed to get similar to what im looking at engineered in the past.

maybe try asking some of the 4x4 shops that have done it in the past such as Coastals etc etc

you will battle to get 33s enginered in WA. lift should be fine at 2.5''. they may not worry about swerve test for the extra half inch.

Go ask on AJOR www.ausjeepoffroad.com

Pm MrSparkle on here, he has a hilux with pretty extensive suspension mods that is all engineered as far as i know.

Thanks guys, it's the wheels I'm worried about, not the suspension.
Hopefully the engineer calls me back soon, ill have my answer then anyway.

stock they come with 245/70/17, i run a 285/70/17 or just shy of 33" tyres, you can run that size on the stock suspension.

to run 35" tyres you can do it with no lift and flat flares, i'd do this and swap the coils for some Suspension stuff flex coils, with minimum lift and long travel shocks / air bump stops.

there was a guy on AJOR from Perth that had a TJ engineered with LS1, D44 & D60 diffs, lift, custom susp link setup (might of even been long arms) & either 33 or 35's (pretty sure it was 35s), had to swerve test & brake test etc.

I reckon 35's could be passed on a JK, specially as devilfish stated - run flat flares and you could get away with no lift. But the only dramas would be the increased track width as 35's won't clear on standard offset rims, and making sure the braking is still adequate enough, might need better brakes to pass the test? Im running 35's on offset steelies on my JK with 3.5" lift, looks normal on a JK 4dr, never get bothered by popo, still pulls up great - but Im sure brake performance must be a little bit less than stock.

Yeh hear back from engineer today, just needs a lane change test, but I'd have to find a driver and hire track etc. god knows who has to drive it. Like I said only want to engineer it for insurance reasons, jk with 35s doesn't really stand out to much.
