View Full Version : Dogs stolen for fighting in Perth?

This has been brought up to me by two different people today. Apparently dogs are being stolen from houses in Perth to be used in fighting rings. They're even being taken while the owners are at home. Specifically, Staffys are being targeted for fighting.
One person said they mark your house with a red tag on the gate.
Vicious rumor? Has anyone else heard this? I told one of the people it sounds like something someone has made up and they got really defensive and said its actually happening etc etc
I'd like to think my male 2 yr old StaffyxBullmastiff would be able to stand up for himself and guard the house. Secretly I know he's a bitch and would maybe lick an intruder clean

a thing on Perth WA crime reports (just says 5 hours ago, cant post link to the specific post)
Chels Beaton
Apparently houses that are being targeted by theives for possible fighting and bait dogs are putting a red sticker on letter boxes or light posts outside the houses so they can go back with the right equipment to steal your dogs (leads, muzzles and cars etc) keep eye out to keep your fur babies safe x

I don't doubt dogs get stolen. I do doubt they mark your house with a red tag, surely a text message to your dog stealing mate with the address is more efficient.
Sounds like a story one one has made up to see if it goes viral.

I've heard about dogs being stolen, pretty sure it was on the news recently. But yeh, the red tag thing sounds like bullshit.
So instead of getting the exact address, they get the street name and put a red dot at the front of the house... then at night, the dog thief has to go from house to house looking for a red dot with a torch?
Seems legit.
Also, why would people steal family pets to be used in dog fighting? By the time you retrain a dog to fight effectively, you could just get one as a pup and bring it up to fight from scratch.. or at the very least, they could pick up abandoned dogs from the RSPCA or free dogs from Gumtree. Smells like bullshit to me.

if that's a reflector it might make sense (thinking flashlight out car window at night), but if they're going to do that they would just as easy see your street number as mentioned.

Horrifically they are being used as training dogs. Ie your little pooch is thrown into the ring with a fighting dog and is savaged to death.

And you can't just go to the pound and take dogs off their hands. Dogs from the pound cost hundreds of dollars as they're spade and immunized.

Yup used as bait dogs. pingpingpingpings need to be shot or have the dogs turn on them.

Good luck trying to take my staffy x pitty from my back yard....if anyone tries to grab him he will tear their arm off ! They would have to drug him and since he is trained not to eat anything taken from strangers unless a secret word is given to him then good luck.
You should give him a mag light and some pepper spray just in case Philbo.

Government has responded by fitting more speed cameras so they grab the rego of the car as it speeds off

Unfortunately this is not a hoax.
They are driving around in the same white van that has been photographed many times by many different people who have caught the assholes peaking over fences. Each time it is the same car, but different number plates. We know its the same car due to this things like noticeable rust spots and faded/ scratched spots on the rear window.
Your 200kg Rottweiler won't stand a chance against these guys.
They are coming back later with equipment such as muzzles, meat laced with tranquilizer and even tranquilizer guns for the more rowdy dogs.
My 100kg Irish wolf hound was baited by these cockheads when they came through Ballajura two years ago. The tranquizers they gave him killed him instead.
I personally hope someone catches these guys in the act and inflicts as much pain and drawn out torture as possible.

One guys dog was taken and later found - if the facebook posts are correct.
Bait dogs/Puppies etc. being taken. Would happily run these fuckers over in the Hilux.

Like anything on social media people just get carried away with it, I know that it does happen but I doubt that it is in epic proportion like the good old face book makes it out to be. If you follow some of the links back to the original posters they live in the UK and America and people are on the look out for the guys here. Then everybody likes and shares and before you know it it's everywhere.

I think if you looked at pet insurance policies they are specified incident policies. The ones I have viewed do not specify "stolen" or " dog napped" as a incident for payment.

If it's a true event happening in Perth, then Vigilance is all we really have to rely on. The police won't bother about 1 rusty van if it's not going to net them $$$ all day (like a speed trap).
A good thing we could do is look out for each other, wouldn't be a dumb idea to get your neighbors to intruduce you to their dogs, and vice versa so you can at least know each other and their pets?
If the neighbors are mutually acceptant to look out for each other, then surely these thieves would be caught or photographed and some kind of repercussion could ensue.
Just spit-balling here, surely unity against these fuckers is a good thing? I love my pets, and I would not step in to stop them from mauling a thief/burglar/fence hopper etc.

I wouldn't trust the source of the Facebook post, she's a fucking idiot and jumps on any tiny bit of info bandwagon and runs with it.
There is no epidemic of dog thefts for fighting in Perth no more than there has been in the past, a few dogs gets stolen by professional people every now and then, most dogs reported lately have been recovered.
Typical Perth Chinese whispers resulting in social media rubbish going viral, even the news stations jump on it.
Sure lock your dog up and keep alert for people scoping your house, why you wouldn't anyway is beyond me regardless!

You are aware that they want them banned right ?
I've signed multiple petitions to keep certain breeds unbanned.
It was just a thought it would be pretty easy to spin the story that banning terriers would fix the issue.
Yeah I know dude, wouldn't surprise me at all if they blow it out of proportion for their own advantages, wether its happening or not.

The internet has been flooded with chilling tales of an organised underground dog fighting ring operating out of Perth's suburbs.
Family pets have been systematically stolen from their yards to be trained as fighting dogs, according to reports appearing on social media and online classified websites this week.
While many in Perth claim to know somebody who knows somebody whose pet has fallen prey to a kidnapping, authorities and social media experts have dismissed the warnings as a viral hoax.
thats another side to it, if cops let this shit get out of hand they are going to be called every time Fifi gets under the side gate with people demanding they find their stolen dog

Because all it takes is someone to make an off hand remark about something they saw and you get mob mentality and someone innocent could be hurt.
Bloke in a white van grabs his dog from around the back of his house and chucks it in the car to take it for a walk, next thing you have idiots posting pics with his rego and getting harassed.

It may have been called out as a hoax, but me and the missus were walking our dog the other week and this black sv6 drove past and slowed right down, then drove up the street, did a U-turn and drove back up to us, the passenger was hanging out the window asking if we had a lighter, which was random enough, then the driver was complimenting our dog and asking what breed it is etc. Then the fkers sped off and did another U-turn and drove back past us again.
Ive seen the passenger before too, was doing the whole white van sales in a car park.

I live 30k's from the beach, it's easier driving my dog there than walking.
May be a hoax. But it happens here in Brisbane. Mostly in the gold coast ghetto... Hell my dog came out of a litter meant to be used as bait. Lucky we got her when we did...
Our Dalmatian got stolen years and years ago, we advertised with a reward and saying that she had special medical needs. Family 20kms away found her wandering.
