Navigation/GPS Systems

Hey All,

I need a good navigation system. I need a navigation system with good Rural maps and roads. Would also love it to be able to log my routes and destinations as a lot of the roads I travel won't be mapped.

What's out there and what should I be looking at.

Happy to look at a GPS tracker as well as a Nav system but need some advice.

Hey Mate,

Are you looking for an in-dash (ie radio, DVD, cd etc) or a on glass removable system?

I have plenty of both types to choose from starting at $149. They all have on road and offroad mapping, plus decent databases of country towns and rural areas.

garmin is the better bet. easy to use and cheap. tomtoms suck and navmans are a bit complicated

Depends how rural are you talking? ie, do you want HEMA maps topographic spec maps?

Rural as in the wheatbelt mate up to a 600km radius from Perth.

So you want the Navteq/HEMA 4WD tracks?

A lot of the roads I travel are offroad tracks/roads so I am assuming these maps would be an advantage.

There's a seller on eBay digoptions or digioptions or something who does in dash units with HEMA maps IIRC.

Otherwise look into Oztrail and Shonkymaps.

We've got this one, has street maps section and offroad section with land overlay n shit.
