I need to find out about if a crash report was filed by a police officer attending the accident, my wife and son were hospitalized if it helps.
I've been on hold to WAPOL for about 20 minutes, last time they redirected me elsewhere (FOI). I was then informed to call back later as they hadn't gotten to the incident yet, I called a month ago and they said it they were upto november - The event happened in october I think. Pretty sure it was October 18th.
Opposing cars rego was [1DWH-770], A silver magna.
Short and tall, the guy got out of the car looked everything up and down - refused to give any details, then ran as soon as the police were called. I don't care about the car, but my wife lost her job and things went to shit very quickly.
Is there anywhere I can contact to know whats going on? Does this become a victims of crime event since the other party left the scene where hospital treatment was required?
I got hit in early December and my insurance company only got details of the report late January if that helps.
Try contacting this department:
Crash investigations are conducted by the local Crash Inquiry Section in the police district where the crash occurred.
Call the Information Release Centre (formerly Crash Records) on (08) 9260 7777 for information about a crash investigation.http://www.police.wa.gov.au/Traffic/Crashinvestigations/tabid/1002/Default.aspx

Thanks! Still not investigated, but the officer filed a report. Huge relief.

I spoke to these guys regarding a similar incident. All they could do was advise the status of the report. As I wasn't asking for details to be released, no FOI was required.
There appears to be only 2 invesigators there!
Hope that helps.

Just a heads up, make sure you say you asked for name, address and phone number.
I had the same situation of a guy doing a runner and they couldnt charge him with failing to provide necessary details because I didnt specifically ask for those details, I simply said I need your details.
Fucking retarded like the rest of our laws but there you go.

I'd love to see the provision there Ricey, because that smells off to me. If it is the other person's duty to provie the details necessary to contact and identify them, it shouldn't matter whether you asked him for those specific details. What if you were knocked out? I think you maybe just got fobbed off.

That was told to me by the Police when they rang me to get a description of him, he asked me a couple of times like he was hoping I would give the right answer but I figured I shouldnt lie to a cop hahaha.
