As seen in the cool shit thread.

1989 GSXR 750

In 2 minds whether to sell it at the moment, its my first bike and its a shit load of fun but on the other hand it will kill me. that much is certain.

has 64000k's on the clock, which doesnt seem too bad for the age of it and runs extremely well.

has been dropped at some stage, but pretty minor and will be getting it fixed professionally this week with any luck.

future mods?

well if I decide to keep it and get my licence I would like to put a later model rear on it and delete the front, single headlight etc and maybe change the bars to suit. Doubt I will be looking for more power any time soon.

damage can be seen in the first pic and a closeup at the bottom, really not that serious.

currently on the look out for cosmetic shit, as it looks like shit IMHO.. too 80's for me

Should be a good fun bike to start with. Careful riding around out of class or without a licence though...

Yeah I highly doubt that's true, seen many for sale and if they were so rare they would be worth alot more and not chopped into fighters so much

the stock front? is kinda growing on me.

from that custom fighters website.. keen to see how much work is involved in doing something like this to the rear end. and if it can be returned to stock afterwards

less plastic, less tears WHEN i fall off

Biggest issue is the rear subframe the current one needs to be chopped off and a smaller one welded on so the different tail piece can be fitted. Others things needed r longer brake and clutch cables so u can run the higher MX bars the rest is just unbolting and relocating electrics and rerouting wires

Also check out Aussiestreetfighters.com and ASF.com for parts

There were only 500 RR's built and they had single rear seats as one of the biggest visual hints.
This has a single seat but is not a RR.

The RR car still get around $15k I think, if you can find one, you really need to love a bike this old to spend that kind of money.

DO NOT TURN THIS INTO A STREET FIGHTER UNLESS YOU PLAN ON SPENDING BIG MONEY

I only say this because
A) you appear to know nothing about bikes
B) it is not a niva

dont be a pussey go get ur bike learners permit, do a couple lessons and get ur bike lic.
U'll never get a more exhilarating but shit scared feeling when you are doing 200+ on a bike then u lift of the throttle and tip into a corner and feel ur whole body gets pressed into the bike. I have been in fast cars and to be honest the feeling of a quick car doesnt even come close to a quick bike.

Niva
18-02-2013, 09:38 PM
yeah but fuck, how long before I can ride even something like this again? years?

I love the bike thing now, have a lot of respect for it. But I will kill myself.

mr_mike
18-02-2013, 09:49 PM
legally probably 2-3mths but then it will be winter and fuck riding in the rain lol.

Get ur RE lic and then u can ride this bike so long as you have a shadow with you (someone who has had open class lic for 4 years or more)

yeah no shit, already hit something slippy on the marmion ave looking section of our garden path under heavy accel and it wheelspun . the term "bricks were shat" is thrown around a lot these days..

didn't realise it could be done within a few months to be honest, I thought L's to full licence was a big drawn out affair.

will look into it tomorrow out of interest.

L's to R-E (LAMS) licence will take as long it takes for you to get enough experience to pass the test.
I think you need you R-E licence for a minimum of 12 months before you can be shadowed on a R class bike. I'm almost positive.
That makes it 15-ish months.
Definately get your bike licence though. The longer you put it off the longer the wait will be.

siladee
19-02-2013, 08:44 AM
you can go out on this with a mate ad soon as you have a 250 licence

Lasoya
19-02-2013, 08:49 AM
You can only ride this once you have passed your RE licence test and have then gone back in and got your learners for open class, But you can only ride with someone who has had open class lic for 4 years or more

Niva
19-02-2013, 09:12 AM
hmm, shame I dont know anyone into bikes that I would want to associate with

trblmkr

Once you have you R-E licence you can be shadowed on any bike by another rider as long they have had the relavent licence for a minimum of 4 years.
I am pretty sure you may need to wait 12 months on your R-E licence before you can learn to ride a larger bike. Happy to be proven wrong on this point though.
You dont need a permit to learn to ride an R class bike, only need a permit to sit the R class test.

Sell this and buy a 600ish CC LAMS bike and ride out your 12 months on that. Legally.
Newer bikes are far easier and cheaper to fix once dropped. Parts for these are rare.

Riggs

Your RE license also counts as your learners for big bige license but as stated you need a shadow with 4yrs on R class. It's 12 months from when you pass your RE to when you can sit your R class.

Get the bike checked out by a specialised mechanic (there's a few around Perth with shops or just ask around on PSB for mobile ones). Never having ridden a bike before you may not be aware that the previous drop may have screwed with alignment or suspension making the bike a whole lot more dangerous than it needs to be. I didn't think there was anything wrong with my 80s Ninja until I had an accident and a mechanic found my bearing were shot to shit making the bike unstable as hell around corners (which through my lack of experience - I thought was normal).... it's an old bike, things wear, maintenance should be your primary concern to keep it safe.

GO to the track. Way more fun than the road, and plenty of advise on how to ride safe and have fun.

Need your licence?

Riggs
22-02-2013, 11:17 AM
No but need to be fluent on how to ride a bike. You fill out a MA day licence (Similar as you would a day CAMS Licence)

Also if your going to take this to the track, give it a birthday and very thorough check over beforehand. A day at the track can be very hard on the older bikes if they have not been maintained.

mr_mike
22-02-2013, 01:26 PM
Usually I am all for heading to the track but in this case don't. Old bike while isn't desire able your complete lack of ability will just make it dangerous for u and all others.
Definetly go on the track but only once you are able to ride competently
