I'd be looking at a smaller diesel ute (hilux/colorado etc) at that price unless there is a compelling reason for choosing the other 2?

I can only talk for toyotas and you won't get a diesel Landcruiser ute with coils for that price range. You may pick up an old 75 series which will have leafs all round, but it will be high in the Km's. still good rigs though with heaps of parts still available. And farmers can keep them running with bits of fencing wire and shit lying around the farm. :)

I had a leaf cab GQ and it was a brilliant work ute and towcar
To drive around without any load on the tray it was a nightmare, any bump in the road would just about put you into the roof
Fuel ecconmy was 550km to a tank loaded with a ton of cement and 550km to a tank empty
5ltrs of fun

You wont get a toyota landcruiser ute with coils in the rear so if you want coils front and rear go the patrol but then you loose out on how much you can tow or you can go the cruiser with a better tow capacity. Engine wise for the toyota 1hz or 1hdtfe stay away from the 2h they are a reliable motor but have no grunt with the patrol you have no choice but to get the 4.2

Was at the auctions yesterday and a few toyota 76/79 series V8TD's went for a touch more than your budget. Was spewing that i was there for trucks and earthmoving equipment as i would of bought 2 seeing that the cheapest 76 on carsales is 28k

This was at smith broughton.
Manheim and pickles have always seemed expensive and it feels like you are in an african auction house

Dont be too stressed about k's on a td42, i have 2 (one in a wagon and one in a coil ute) both with over 500,000km on them. Wagon has a td05 turbo on it and is a rocket for what it is.. Pulled plenty of heavier-than-i-should loads with it and i'd trust it more than any other vehicle.
Might even consider selling the ute even though it's very useful at the moment...thinking about building something for bigger towing..

the petrols are thirsty as fuck but also go good for a large amount of kms, heaps of low down torque too, i've climbed a dune seeing 750ish rpm and it just kept chugging its way over the top.
Mine has only done 330,000km but a family friend had one from new which got to 680,000 before it blew a head gasket, he got it fixed, sold it and it's still driving around town today, he sold it 5 years ago.
My partners uncle has also had a carby tb42 from new, it's fucking immaculate and only mods are exhaust and electronic ignition, still going strong and never had the head off, forgot to ask how many km's he's put on it but he uses it to travel around the country with his camper.
Maintain them properly and there's not much that will outlast them, if anything.

sound like bullet proof cars haha. my cousins got one with 540k on the clock. same diff, gearbox and motor

Bullet proof when taken care off, I'm buying a swb tb42 patrol in a few weeks, one owner 200000 kms and not a leak or problem with it, it's on gas so I'm hoping the fuel bill don't be too bad ha ha
Passage GT

maintenance is important, toyota fans will whinge about them doing heads when on gas but again, don't let them get hot and it's not an issue.
both the examples i listed above were always run on petrol and well maintained.

They burn heads when the gas isn't tuned properly, ill be seeing mine to a gas specialist. First thing I will do to make sure it's all good

yeah ill be looking after it when i get one. service every 5k and gearbox and diff every 15k

Look on gun tree there are a few on there that look like they are in decent nick, older patrols leak from the ps pump and the steering box, minor problems really.

it was on there last week. i text him asking if its still for sale he said its sold.

I was lucky with mine, buying it of a friend who drove it once a month and looked after it, you will find something, have you tried perth4x4 forums or the nissan patrol forums ?

Mine is on gas and popped a head to, bought a brand new oem nissan head, had it properly modded for gas, not a problem since
Saying that, going to fuck the gas off and throw a big fuckoff fuel tank in it for big trips
Anyone want a full gas setup? lol
Marti
17-02-2013, 06:42 PM
