Hi,

So its finally time to upgrade my 5+ year old laptop, and with all this new tech out there i am lost and don't know what i am looking at.

Basically i would like something similar to this style (as a keyboard is a must)
http://www.gadgetguy.com.au/cms/wp-content/uploads/asus-computex-2012-announce-tablet-600.jpg

But i want to be able to use it pretty much as a notebook (paper and pen), in that i can write on the screen with a pen. I also want to have a large range of programs i can use on it and not be limited to a Tablet OS

Will only be used for work/study

ps: Maybe something like this http://www.asus.com.au/Notebooks/Superior_Mobility/ASUS_TAICHI_21/ (best of both worlds notebook + tablet)

Cheers

dont go asus.
send for repair 4 or 5 times .... never probably fixed, actually it got worse.
ended up having non-genuine windows after the 2nd time, and they never rectified that. dumb fucks

I'm on my second ASUS and never had an issue, I got the touch screen model just recently, Nice solidly built machine, turned off mouse gestures as that shit annoys me, and installed the start button mod for Win 8, I never use the apps, they wear off about 20 minutes in.

Asus is generally pretty good quality and respectable ime.
I have a 17" dell lappy and couldn't be happier, thing is a beast, no touch screen tho.

Win8 is the Os you're looking for, just install a start button mod and good to go really. I'd be looking for something with discrete graphics, high resolution and an i7 processor.

You'll struggle to compete with these specs for double the price that these come out in. They definitely don't fit the bill for the pen/paper idea. Maybe a Windows surface tablet?

Agree'd i use a metabox laptop myself, absolutely amazing specs and price point. Would definitely reccomend.

I really need something with touchscreen which allows me to use a pen to write on it.

This is looking like the best opinion http://www.microsoft.com/Surface/en-us/surface-with-windows-8-pro/home

however i have been reading Australia won't get the Pro model (full windows 8) until later
