Money seems to be flying out of my wallet and have nothing to really show for it.
Anyone know of a user friendly program that will help keep track of my finances?

Give yourself an amount per pay that you feel you should be able to have fun off. Pull that amount cash out just after every pay. Bills, food to live, petrol for work gets paid with eftpos. When the cash in your wallet is gone the fun is over until next pay.

A pen and paper is the only program you need, write down a budget set your self some goals and stick to it! Make sure you write down where every cent is going no cheating and you will be surprised how much you can save.
Surely there is some good free budget applications which i believe this guy is after, not a lecture.

I agree, and as a Financial Adviser I am happy to pass onto the OP a simple spreadsheet to track your income and expenses on a monthly and yearly basis to help you get your budgeting on track.
Send me a PM with your email, simple to adjust to suit your needs DIY.

Xero. You can use it for personal use. I use it for business though but its also used by a lot of larger businesses.
Links automatically to your bank account too its a good way to track your expenses and you can use it on your iphone/android. Access can be had on any computer any where.

Another tip is to set up a savings account with another bank (I'm using UBank, backed by NAB - they had the highest interest rates not too long ago) that automatically debits a certain amount each pay. You could obviously do this with your existing bank, but going with another gives it a delay for transfers, so it's less likely you'll be able to use it for impulse purchases. Obviously credit cards negate this benefit, so try to limit your use of that.
You don't notice it gone, and you automatically adjust your spending to suit. UBank, for example, also has a 'goal' system so if there's something in particular you're wanting to save for (house, holiday, car) you can keep tracking of your savings and build your way up.
I generally also transfer any lump sum payments straight in to that account (bonuses, tax return, etc) - again, you would barely notice it gone.

This is an online spreadsheet and excel spreadsheet as downloadable. Good to see as an overall of what goes in and out. Other than that there is spreadsheet templates under Excel.

This. They also compound monthly (Happy interest day to all the other uBank users BTW). Makes savings for things so much easier, and you get into the mentality of the automatic savings just becoming a "bill". The tools they offer such as savings plans, and the simple ability to rename an account anything you like make it even easier to save and work towards a goal.

I used to be the same. A year ago I was earning the same money or there abouts and had nothing to show for it, but the bank would be empty come pay day. Then I started saving towards a house putting away $500 a week and the only things I've cut out on are trivial things like Lego or RC cars etc. Silly impulse purchases of a few hundred here or there all add up. But I still have a car and the loan that goes with that, phone, insurances etc etc. I keep track of my spending with Netbank and a simple spreadsheet.

Let me summarize this so you don't need to go.
"I am rich, look at all my stuff" - 50 minutes
"Buy me book / sign this / spend here you can be too" - 2 minutes
They are all the same. Teach yo'self

ANZ money manager (online) might help too. You can link various bank accounts (non ANZ) and it'll track your expenses and categorise shit for you. You can set a budget and goals and work towards it.
If you're happy sharing that kind of info then it might be useful.

samesies.
2 anz accounts and a ubank account. each week money goes from main anz account to ubank, and then a weekly allowance for bills, etc goes into the other anz account.
everything direct debits from the bill account, that way whatever is left in my main account is coke & hooker money. i dont have a credit card, so the 'bill' money can be used in an emergency, but i've got the budget pretty down pat now.
