Sup doggs,
So some dardy yorgas were scoping our street out about a while back, I reported it to the police as they rode down the neighbours driveway and I know they don't associate with aboriginals on BMX bikes. Cops wouldn't have done anything. Previously we had a brand nenw pair of shoes stolen from the front door, thought it was punk kids, then it happened again about a month ago, within that month the front gate has been opened then left open, telling me that someone has come in.
Last night I woke up to a car door closing and a beeping sound, thought it was my house mate coming back from holidays. Turns out it wasn't him and the front door flyscreen door had been open, I checked the gate and it was open, went to my car and they had been through it (stunk like ciggies too).
No without putting a padlock on the gate and locking ourselves in our own property, I would like to put up some CCTV. I have no idea about these systems so please send me links and info if you have used them in the past or what not.
Thanks in advance.

Hate to say it, but Crabman is right. Even if you do get a CCTV how are you going to identify them? 1) There are a lot of distant cousins (if it is them) and they probably won't even care, 2) its dark and unless you have some sort of quality lighting or nightvision then it isn't going to cut it. 3) Cops won't even care.
Dog is 100% best or yeah as above, don't leave your shoes around or find a better neighborhood ;)

IF you not going to lock the gate, why not get some fake cameras and stickers all over the place saying you have security systems installed.
There is plenty of DIY camera stuff at bunnings tho if you are keen.
Last resort you could put a photo of your quads on a "house forsale" sized sign out the front to scare of would be robbers?

LOL at leaving everything unlocked and wondering why shit keeps getting stolen.
At least if you get some CCTV setup you'll have some footage of boongs pissing themselves laughing at the dumb pingpingpingping who's keeping them stocked up with fresh kicks.

Ads that say to report suspicious activity, what's the fucking point cops don't do shit
Also even if you do film people you can't use it as evidence can you? Or you can if you have stickers on your house saying you have cameras?
Heaps of sensor lights really are good, black pingpingpingpings stand out big time and they know it

The police on the phone asked if I had CCTV, so that's what made me think it would hold up. Cops generally don't do shit if they're coons, so it may seem pointless, but gives me a sense of security.

I've hooked up one of the Jaycar/Electus kits at work. It's pretty easy, just need a DVR recorder and some decent resolution cameras. If they do something like a 4ch it won't cost very much.
Also installed the ones that plug into PCI slots on PC's and record in the background.
These are the ones Jaycar do.

I put a Swanse system in from masters at the in laws, it was great for day time, absolute shit at night so put in two 30watt IR led flood lights and the night vision is equivalent to daylight now. Only down side is you can't pull up rego plates as there's to much reflection.

This.
I can show you the IP camera Tim put into Cuppa Joe if you like, its high resolution, colour, infrared, and has a microphone so you can listen to what any dusty cousins are saying whilst rifling through you vehicle.
It has web interface and runs through the router. Has SD storage on-board too, so you won't need a separate DVR. Very cost effective and easy to install.

Onboard storage makes sense, until they decide to steal the camera as well.

Don't 'cord me bro!

Thats the only thing, however I'm sure you can store the recording off-site too if thats a concern.

my old man has a system that's similar to this, and best thing is that you can view the cameras with anything thats connected to your network, even wifi.. have an app for my phone that lets me view all the cameras whenever im home and connected to the wifi
When we were overseas we setup a server so we could view the cameras in realtime over the internet, and had some program that could email us with jpegs from cameras that would detect motion.
Really good and cost effective. But when it comes to coons, the best solution is a dog

Check out Honeywell total connect, basically the system described above. It let's you view & control cameras, control the alarm and anything else you decide to hook up (motion/temperature sensors etc) via your phone/pc.

No without putting a padlock on the gate and locking ourselves in our own property, I would like to put up some CCTV.
I watched a group of 6-8 cousins keep on walking up the road passed my property because we had our gates padlocked.
It's honestly not that big a hassle.
Been looking at foscams as it saves on having a DVR setup plus have a trigger for each camera allowing a light to be turned on etc.
have a look over on whirlpool hundreds of pages over there.
the best solution is a dog
a dog should only be a solution when you want a pet that your going to look after & spend lots of time with.
thats why i dont have a dog, got a nice set of gates tho :D

use a PC for surveilance (more proccessing power = usually better image capture*)
buying cameras from ebay saved my BS amounts of money
whole system 4 cam that can go to 8 shitty old PC running recording software and capture card was about $440.
FTP backup offsite, web viewing, some r/c of lights and shiz, email and phone app.
*depending on capture card also
