View Full Version : Decent Kebab in the CBD? Help a country player out.
As the title suggests, In the CBD walking around before I head to the airport and chasing a decent Kebab? I've found ISPA but chain store Kebabs are usually shit. Google isn't much help.
Can anyone suggest a decent Kebab in the CBD?
Cheers
As a seasoned kebab connoisseur,
Unfortunately the best souvlaki is no longer available. Acropolis Kebabs shut down about 8 months ago (they were at 140 William food court), best damn souvlaki's I'd ever had.. but gone now. Souvlaki is different to a kebab. It's made by Greeks rather than Turks, and is rolled into a triangular shape using a thick pita bread. It has French fries in it also. Kebab is what we all know.. badly packed.
Try City Kebabs on Murray St (across from the carpark next to Carnegies). Fairly solid from my experience. There is a kebab place on William St near the corner of Murray St Mall that always has beats pumping, and its always busy. Can't comment on it because I've not tried it, but busy usually means good.
Best kebabs in Perth Metro are Ararat Kebabs, Broadway shopping centre Nedlands. By FAR the best.
I also rate Istanbul Kitchen in North Perth, same owners for years and they make their pita on site. HUGE kebabs if you get double meat, double the lot.
P.S. the two best Kebab shop names ever... Kebabistan in Mt Lawley, but its gone now because the proprietor killed his wife in the shop. Also, Abrakebabra used to be in Subiaco.. A guy I went to school with ran it. It's gone now.
Just the man I was hoping would reply. City Kebab it is.. Cheers Joesac!

Unprofessional? Sure.. But no complaints here.

I've had a few.. I'm not drunk but it wouldn't be a great idea to drive.
But I enjoy a non-greasy Kebab sober as well.

I remember riding my pushbike down Beaufort St just after the bloke knifed his wife in Kebabistan, cop cars fucking everywhere, apparently he knifed her then was wandering around out the front with the knife and a blood soaked sheet over himself. I missed that bit but yeh... CSB
I might go and give this Istanbul Kitchen joint a go for dinner, love a good kebab.

Sorry for essay spec
Just to clarify Joe a little
Souvlaki is meat cooked on skewers. Most commonly pork and lamb.
Can be served on a plate or in pita bread.
from "Souvla" Spit "-aki" word ending for small
Souvla:http://cypriotcommunitywa.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/souvla-2011.jpg
Souvlaki: http://www.seriouseats.com/recipes/images/20090319-pork-souvlaki.jpg
Makes sense.
Now we get to gyros
The name comes from Greek γύρος ('turn'), a calque of the Turkish döner meaning "turn"
Which is what Aussies call kebabs
Traditionally Pork and Lamb but has been extended to suit Australian tastes.
also generally having onions, tomato, french fries, and tzatziki sauce as add ons, but now can come with a range of different fillings and sauces
http://eatblogtweet.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/giro.jpg
I hope that enlightened some people
and now i want some gyros farken

My sister was an employee at the time. One of his sons (younger one I think) was / is in jail for attempted murder, another stabbing. . Really nice people, except for the aforementioned of course ;)

+1 for Ararat kebabs hands down; lived off those for years when I lived in Nedlands.
$2 turkish breads from them are also a winner - though might be more nowadays?

+1 for Ararat.
In the old days Little Lebanon in William St Northbridge did a great Kebab.
Another, now gone, was in Melbourne done over charcoal. Can't tell you how good it was. Was bought by the manager when the original owner passed away. Turned to gas cooking. :(

After Bernies Kebabs closed its doors after 30 plus years of trading no kebab shop can even compare. It even made the news in Melbourne!
How could we forget Bernies!
One of Vastese's oldest customers.. A sad day when you guys closed the shop.

Ahh.. A man after my own heart!
For me, it's Ankara - next to the Inglewood. Second it's Churchlands kebabs, where Herdsman Fresh is. City kebabs in the CBD is good, as well as Istanbul Kitchen. Peters rounds out my top 5.
Bernies used to be my local.. they happily indulged my love of the bread roll.. id ring on my way home from work and if I was lucky would witness a family domestic whilst playing Star Trek Next Gen on pinball. so sad its all over.. I also have fond memories of KeSTABistan.. Up until the end - literally.
Ankara in Inglewood definitely gets a solid vote from me!
