View Full Version : rb26 afm's 2 into 1

Instead of running dual afms on my l jetro pfc would it be possible to run 1 afm then just connect the 2nd afm signal wire into the 1? So theoretically it would read 2 voltages still however they will always be the same. Planning this for a big single conversion

Faz, are you not a sparky? LOL

Wouldn't have enough resolution, but can be done.
Better way is going MAP, or running a greddy y-pipe with 2 afms like pictured

I know I could do it however just wanted to see the repercussions in a theoretical sense.

How would only having one say z32 lower the resolution as the car still thinks it's getting 2 signals? And those twin pipes are hard to come by

Ignoring whether the engine was originally equiped with one AFM or not, the replacement AFM or AFMs need to have the resolution to support the airflow of your new turbo.
If a single Z32 afm is enough for your new turbos power requirement then it's fine.

Y-Pipes are easy to come by, new ~$250, second hand $100-150 and come up often

As above, twin pipes are easy to come by. I have one on my GTR that i may sell in the near future, pending Vipec purchase.

You would have to be pretty retarded to buy a D-Jetro over a Vipec

If you are going wire in you may as well go motec as will cost same and gives you more options down the path.

LOL WUT? V88 is like 10% of the cost of a Motec

price wise d-jetro is cheap compare to a Vipec, so it isn't so retarded

Unless you need all the shit unlocked on a motec which the average person will not they have actually come down substantially in price Dean.

Cheap from where? Once you add import duties, tax and shipping they are similar price.

Not to mention that it costs an arm and leg in labour costs to remove the inlet manifold to drill/install the nipples.

Then add the cost of a new electronic boost controller to go with the D-Jetro at more than $300, where you can just use a $50 mac valve on a Vipec.

I've purchased and used both on GTRs, I know which is cheaper after you factor in overall costs and I know which is better.

pay $800 landed for my D-jetro inc h/c and sensors (no tax on parts under $1000), It cost me $650 to have it install and tune.

get off the bbq.

motec you need to pay to unlock most of the motor sport features.

vipec v88 you just wire straight in and its all there ready for you unlocked to play with.

next you'll be telling me wold 3d is the way to go.

muppet :P

edit: oh and comparing a PFC d-jetro to a motec/vipec is stupid.

one's a relatively simple ecu and one is dedicated to proper motorsport applications.

ill let you guess what's what.

serious question: what can a motec do that a vipec v88 cannot?

M880 seems to have a few tricks up it's sleave that the V88 hasn't but the V88 has a few things standard that cost extra with a Motec.

http://www.vi-pec.com/ecus/v88

All depends on how much cash you want to spend on the ECU.

Yeah my DJ wasn't as expensive as a vipec. And as Simon knows mine made what some call reasonable power. But each to their own. If you can convince me the v88 will make more power / torque ill happily part ways with my DJ :-)

And the wait for the fat pingpingpingping thats the WA agent for them to deliver is how long ?

I've just been emailing vipec direct saying i cant get hold of the wa rep and i really need the parts so they end up just air baging or what ever to me within a week.

reason i was asking is that i already have an L jetro, so just means all i need to do is buy x1 z32 and hook up the other signal wire to it and i retain the ecu i currently have

Comparing power made by ECU's is silly... If you want to play that game my second hand $100 RB20 Nistune made more power than your D-Jetro. They will all make the same power, it's all the other stuff that is worth it.

D-Jetro is a good ECU, I had one in my old GTR but if you were going to buy one (without already having one) the Vipec wins by a mile.
