S15 6 speed manual gearbox problems.

Alright so my friend brought a s15 not long ago.
we took it to allstar to get cams, front mount, brakes, twin plate and nistune.
Got it back then it went for a cruise.
when the guy that was driving it. snapped first into second and then it made a shit load of grinding and banging noise.
its now stuck in reverse and wont come out :S we think its the gearbox but not sure..
anyone know much about these gearbox's and if they're very strong??
If it is the box can anyone recommend a good box?

are the 5 speeds stronger? and will they fit over the twin plate? don't know much about the sr's and box's haha

They are marginally stronger.
If you can't shift with mechanical sympathy in a 6 speed you will probably bust a 5 speed too.

If you are a rough pingpingpingping do a RB25/Z32 gearbox conversion.

Putting a twin plate into a s15 with a 6 speed is asking for trouble, yes 5 speeds are a little stronger but if your looking at making a fair but of power I'd look into a vg/rb25 box conversion

its only got 250rwhp. actually didnt think the 6 speeds would be this weak with that amount of power :/

If you "snap" gears in a 6 speed it will bust, same with a 5 speed.

totally agree with sfidz, mechanical sympathy often overlooked,
you simply can't smash third in a 6spd. gearboxes will break if you drive like a peanut with no thought.

have you checked the subframe, near the diff mounts? sometimes this cracks and all manner of hell can break loose.

(1) Either swap it out, and tell your mate to get off the gear and shift normally.

(2) Continue driving it like its stolen and replace 6 speeds on a monthly rotation

(3) Man up and buy a 5 speed

S15 6 speed uses a different clutch to a 5 speed.
Just do a Z32 gearbox conversion so he doesn't kill another box.
