Haha, that looks awesome.
I've got a short course 1/10 Slash 2WD. Will post some pics when I get home.
How much coin is needed to set up a nice RC drift car? Wouldn't mind a bit of a change every now and then from the Slash.
This bad boy cost me 300 so far with the DX3c, I was lucky to find a belt driven tamiya on gumtree for 150 , but a good basic starter cost around $250 ready to go, couple shots with HIDs and tail lights haha

there was another thread kicking around a while back about rc cars but I haven't been able to find it.
here's a pic of my collection, I don't use them much now as I got right into RC Heli's

I got one but it seems to have died a miserable death. Had some good fun with it but it started to get pricey. I got one of those prebuilt tamiya tt01-d chassis and went from there. I got a new motor with a tuning card by Hobby Wing but the guy and stanbridges installed it backwards or something and then it just died haha all up with the motor, the bulk sets of wheels, shells and other chassis parts it's all come up to over $400 easy

Is that the FJ40 Tamiya RC car? NICE! Was thinking of getting one for a killer rock crawler setup.

^ rule #1 dont go to Standbridges, unless you like paying drug money....
www.amainhobbies.com is where I get most of my stuff from, about 30% cheaper than what it is in most stores here and thats including shipping.
i started with a tt01 as the skill level developed so was the need for a better chassis, but it can get really expensive some of the guys in the competition level spend over 1k on there RC drift cars and Borgz and -luke- collection are surely climbing over the 2k range Nice collection you guys have there

yeah it is, In the pic the chassis is under the Red Ford Expedition body. They are a great little rig. Very capable out of the box and huge after market support. The chassis is now under the hard Plastic Chey pickup body that came out of the Super Clod kit. It's a nice scale looking crawler now.

Try 15k at least lol.
The Blue E-Revo my racing one owes me close to 4k including the car alone lol, pratically everything including throwing the mamba monster out and going bigger so i can now run 8s if i wanted too.
My absolute favorite is my Summit, purely because i can drive it in my pool completely submerged which is awesome :D

I have a few including a whole box of chassis and parts I didn't even know I had that I found while moving house.
Spent stupid money back in the day on my Tamiya TA03R TRF PRO kit
Also have a Yokomo MR4-TC SSG rolling chassis
Found box includes TA03F with a few hop-ups
Stadium Blitzer truck in bits but most of it looks to be there. An a heap of other crap.
Might try and get my TRF PRO running using the other TA03 as I snapped the front gearbox casing. Might try and sell the rest on Gumtree too.

ive had a few rc cars in my time .
collection has almost dissapeared atm as i hardly bother to use them
but consists of
losi drift-r brushless . and pictured with clone of my old 2jzx90 body
also got a losi 8T brushless truggy , running mamba kit on 4s or 5s when i wanna do silly stuff
tried to get into rc helis for a bit , but darn they hard to get the hang of flying .. even for a veteran r/c racer like me ..
flying with the blade mcp-x .. its a palm size , but full 3d .. being so small crash landings are less damaging ..

With the Velineon motor and a diff mod (blue-tac ;) ) the thing would flip over on its head if you gunned it from a stand, and used to do wwaaayyy long mono's up the street from 1/2 to full throttle. LOVED IT!!

I have a TT-01D that had a huge crash after putting a brushless in it so waiting on parts from HK to arrive.
Off road I use my trusty Bandit that takes a serious flogging until last weekend when the front lower control arm tore itself from the car.

I had a Rustler VXL. Sold it. Then a member on here had another one running LiPo for sale at an excellent price. Busted it the very first time I used it due to the crazy power.
Keen as fuck to build a little on road drifter or grip car. Evo X shell, all the details/lights, wheels etc. They look sick.
Used to have Nitro Savages and they were such a pingpingpingping to work on. Pull the whole thing apart to fix them etc. Don't miss it.

What is a good mini buggy/truck around the $200-$300 mark?
Looking for electric and RTR (with all radio gear, batt etc).
Only want a small/compact/palm size one to muck around with at work on lunch breaks in the dirt carpark next door.
Been liking at the Kyosho LAZER LX-5 RTR kits, can import one for around $250-ish from what I can see but would probably need to source batteries locally? Look fairly quick with a hop-up engine and decent batteries but a brushless with proper LiPo's would probably be better?

they brushed or brushless? brushed you can only run upto a 2cell lipo brushless its basically 6cell depending on size. brushed are still fun, what about a slash or rustler from Traxxas, easy to work on, easy to make them fast and easy to get parts for. plus cheap too.

Sure, it's China, but I've bought plenty of cars and planes through them, and have never had a problem.
Full spread of spare parts and upgrades too.
Sub $200 could get you a 1/10th SCT with 2.4ghz TX/RX RTR.

Thanks for the links. I have narrowed it down to the Traxxas 1:16 Mini Slash brushless RTR ~ $380 ish local/ $249+ postage online (apparently I might be better to buy the brushed as it has a 540 size engine setup and then buy a larger/540 sized brushless kit/LiPo to suit and it will fly)
Or
Losi 1:24 Short Course Truck - Brushless RTR ~ $190 local/ $149 + postage online
Slash is more powerful and has more potential but didn't really want to spend that much and I like the compact size of the 1:24 scale. I'm likely to want more speed though.
Going to try and sell all my old kits apart from the TRF PRO as I can't be bothered getting them running again!

Biggest thing i have seen with the mini slash is it can be very unstable compared to the mini E Revo. They will roll easily.
The losi mini 8ight hammers but is not as good for general bashing.

The new model now comes with full metal outdrives, and most other components have been upgraded.

Ended up buying a Traxxas Mini Slash - 1/16th brushless Short Course Truck
Picked up a second battery and a series connector for 50mph speed runs but after my first few drives I think the single packs at 30mph will be fast enough for a while!
Being so small it is pretty unstable so you need to slow down before even thinking about trying to corner. Getting faster but can see I will be buying a new body shell soon as I have scratched the fuck out of this one already! It is also really soggy on one side as they didnt fill the shocks evenly from the factory so that will be the first upgrade, will get some heavier oil and firmer springs to try and increase stability, it nearly lifts the front wheels already and I am only running the standard 1200 battery pack.
Anyone know of any good places/tracks to run these things at?

Go Hobbyking (online store). Cheap as lipo batterys and decent quality. Been running 7 of them for aboiut 2 years without an issue.
I find Joondalup hobbies and stanbridges to be bit on expensive side. I prefer buying 3-4 at a time so i don't have to wait for to recharge.
I got a Baja 5t, 2x 5b, TT01, HPI Blitz. Waiting for parts to come in for the TT01. Somehow managed to snap a part of the tub chassis so now
the spur gear cover wont screw down. I also need a 1/10th digital steering servo if anyone has one spare.

Any heads up for a good Lipo charger setup plus balancer from hobby king? Keen to convert to Lipo and up to 11.1V asap!
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=15042
Easily the best balance charger for the price.
Doesn't come with a power supply though. However, any 12v dc input will work. Amongst others, I use my laptop charger to power it (Plug is the same).

Gents, looking for a bit of advice.
Had some awesome fun down at the beach with the new paddles, but unfortunately I got some sand/water in my NiMH battery pack.
I've Google'd this exact issue (beach fun resulting in sand/water in pack) and by all accounts they state each cell is individually sealed so the water is of no concern, however my issue is this orange crap:
http://i.imgur.com/E5q9E.png
http://i.imgur.com/EcU92.png
Is this the individual cells leaking? Is it minerals in the water? Most importantly, is it safe to use? I don't want to go charging and/or using it in the car if it's going to burst in to flames.
Should I cut the plastic packaging, clean it out and re-package with heat shrink or something similar, just to be on the safe side?

My annoyance is the fact that Traxxas market the Slash as being waterproof. The car itself is only a few months old, and has had, at most, maybe 4 good runs, and only one of these (its last) being anywhere near water. Perhaps I should contact Traxxas and get their feedback...

From my research Duste Traxxas are very good to deal with in regards to warranty etc?
i'd definitely be hitting them up, my plans are the oval and tiny skate park here at work, then look at getting paddles and hitting the beach, i'm guessing the standard 'bfg' tires aren't so great on the beach?

Finally converted to lipos on the TT01D, with a 10.5T brushless and 58/25 gearing the speed is nuts.
Also purchased a new body as the old one was falling apart, the new Viper GTSR body in black looks angry.
Then the inevitable crash, on high grip foam tyres it snapped into a slide and the front left wheel smacked straight into a kerb shearing the bottom of the hub off where it connects to the lower control arm.
Ordered alloy hub kit with alloy dogbones cheap cheap from over east should be here today then back out there to see what else I can break. Also ordered high grip rubber tyres but they are from the UK, any ideas on delivery times?

Ebay is the cheapest option, few places over east and delivery only takes a few days. Overseas is even cheaper but delivery takes a while.
Ebay is generally less than half the cost of local hobby shops. For example I needed a front diff cover and shock support for the TT01 which was around $25 locally and I got it for $8 delivered from Hong Kong.

i have to say the trophy truck is a fuckload more complicated than the slash is to pull apart and repair.

Once I fix my emaxx I want to head out to Rockingham lakes for a bit of a thrash on the land sailing track. Flat, hard and nothing to hit.

next time i head to perth for any length of time (via car) i'd be glad to meet up and have a bash in some new spots, i'm kind of restricted to the motorx track here, nowhere else to go really, there is an rc club here but they do on road racing in carparks etc.

Yeah it is total cost is close to 2 grand but I am getting it mainly just for display as its Webber's car not Vettel's.It comes with 2 bodies one for display and one a lot stronger to put on for a thrash up the road.
