View Full Version : external wastegate help
hey guys i just installed a new turbo setup in my car with a 38mm TIAL wastegate. My car also has a turbosmart eboost street boost controller with a 3 way tee solenoid.
the thing i need to know by this diagram on the tialsport website http://www.turbosmartusa.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/eBoost_Street.pdf My turbo doesnt have the nipple on the front housing and also my wastegate has one vent on the side and one vent ontop for boost lines rather then the two on the side. Where do they go? if somoene could draw a mudmap that would be appreciated

if you can, put a nipple in before your T/B, but if you cant, the intake manifold will be suffice.
it will go to the side port on WG
There are a few ways to control them as shown below. I have tried the basic inline to the side of the gate with minimal luck, I had a lot of shuddering so I am going to try boost controlling the top of the waste gate to try and smooth it out.

Hope this helps.

The way I had it set up on my Silvia was, middle port of the solinoid was left to vent, out side nipple to waste gate and the other was connected to a nipple to the intercooler pipe that was coming from the compressor side of the turbo and t pieced to the nipple on the side of the waste gate
The main waste gate control line goes to the nipple ontop of the waste gate not the side

yup i got that one going to an intercooler pipe , but the port on the top of the wastegate shown here

does that go back to the boost solenoid side which is suppose to be venting to atmosphere?
or is this the correct diagram ?

but instead of going to the turbo nipple it goes to an I/C pipe?

Yes that's correct
Turbo nipple can go on turbo housing or on an intercooler pipe as it's picking up the same air.
The top side port goes to boost controller
The lower side port goes to boost controller.
One port on your actual boost solenoid should be vented as well

Though with my setup, I used two nipple's tapped into IC piping as having a tee can cause issues with leaks.
One from IC piping to gate
One from solenoid to IC piping.
oh ok sweet thanks alot guys
i tryed it like the diagram that you posted spoontah, with the line that runs to the turbo nipple going to a intercooler pipe with a plastic teepeice but it seems to miss a little on boost. To make sure it wasnt something else like my spark breaking down etc i hooked the wastegate up with the top port vented and the side port going to the boost controller solenoid and the other port on the boost solenoid going to an i/c pipe ( asuming this is running wastegate pressure 14.5psi) and it boosts fine and cracks gate pretty smoothly for an untuned car. so im not quite sure now , maybe hook the top nipple of the wastegate to the left over nipple on the solenoid which is suppose to vent to atmosphere?
