Hey,

hypothetical how laggy would a HKS T51R SPL (A/R 1.00) be on an stock Rb26 Engine? Running 18-20psi? Full boost would be upwards of 5500rpm correct?

How long is a piece of string?
Way to many factors to give you an accurate figure. The turbo is really wasted only running 18psi...

I no nothing about these turbos, i know it is a very generic question. But trying to work out how small the power band will be. What are they rated to run at (PSI)?

Should see full boost by 4500ish.

Its an old design. These days you could get T51 power out of a smaller more responsive turbo, or you could get a similar size turbo that makes more power than the T51. All depends on what you want really

On a stock rb26 you'd see full boost at about 5500rpm. Wouldn't bother with one unless you're going to run over 2 bar and have all supporting mods to push 800+hp

i would love to see twin t51 setup!

After being in Fabians 32 gtr with t51r they are awesome no matter how laggy it is when it comes on boost you're in for one hell of a ride!

what turbos would you recommend in that frame size that will produce the same if not more power?

Friend has one on. 2.8 with a lot of head work big cams etc. Full boost by around 5-5500.

You kind of get sick of the whistling as the novelty wears off though.

Interesting that you went with one of the smallest twins on the market in search of maintaining response on your 32R, and now you're thinking about one of the larger singles on the market... the complete other end of the spectrum.

What power are you actually chasing?

Mate has one on his VX SS.

Fuck the lag ... the sound is fucking awesome.

No, no you don't. It sounds like a fucking jet engine... But your an idiot if you put one on a standard 2.6.

Correct.
I recorded Nathan's old white HKS33 at Motorvation in 2003 with T51R on the dyno. Close sound to a jet engine on boost.

Mikey - this will go well with your Nitto 3.4L engine and Holinger sequential.

Who would get sick of that noise, lag is an issue

could always give it a shot of gas to bring it onto boost a little quicker, but as above a stroker motor and a decent amount of head work would be needed to make it perform at its peak

The T51r spl is a 76mm turbo. This is huge. At 18psi on stock motor you would have something like a 1000rpm powerband? Garrett's nearest comparison is the GTX4202r which is of a similar size.

As others have said unless you're going to use it with a built larger displacement motor, E85 and high boost then it's going to be almost unusable. Not to mention they are costly.

Better off with a smaller more responsive turbo around the 58-62 mm size like the GTX3076R as this is better matched to the engine. Can run high boost (25-28psi) with a $350 water/meth injection kit and make the same power if not more than the T51r on 18psi and have about 2000rpm more powerband to play with.
