OK wanna be rally heros, listen up!
Rallysprint summer season starts next Thursday night (1st Nov). So get your light bar fitted up, entry in (rallysprint.com.au), strap in an unwilling co-driver and have a go at dodging concrete and fences round the motorplex, then wonder how the quickest cars are so much faster...
None of the above applies to me of course...not even a little bit.
Oh, and if that's not enough the first Pemberton hillclimb (speedeventseries.com) is on Sunday 4th Nov. Looks like a slightly shortened version of the targasouthwest Pump Hill stage. I'm in for that too, gonna be a big weekend!

Mmmm, sucks to be you Denver. I'm up north next week too (and right now) so I'll be crying too if the job gets delayed and I can't make it.
I will be vying to enter this and bring up the rear once I get my gearbox back.
It looks like great fun.
Julian we'll swap tyres and see what u say then? I only use 225 rears and 215 fronts.
Can't wait man, best event i've done to date, see u there

J31 - my old car used 205's all round, so um, I'm not sure what the problem with 225's is! BTW, you'd better come say hello cause I can't pick who you be. Though I have a suspicion... Not a R31 driver per chance are you, silver with a 'give me a yellow sticker please' rear wing per chance?!

Did anyone get a puncture last night? Last weekend saw 3 that i know of at the drag racing grand opening from debris on the return road, namely in/before the snakepit.
Yeah I heard it was something in the Capri letting go which dropped the oil but haven't spoken to any of the GTI team since.
I don't know of anybody getting punctures last night - at least not from debris around the snake pit.

Is that what was pooled up on your front splitter?
I walked by with my 4yo and we had a look after one of your runs.

That's water from the intercooler spray. Or spillage from the old man trying to top up the water spray bottle :P
The oil slick in the video starts about 20-30M before the chicane. You can also see the trail continue for a bit after the chicane when I rejoin the road.

That was a pants moment – I was sitting beside him!
Note the little "thanks for not killing me" nod at the end.
To anyone thinking of entering: it's a really good event and I'd thoroughly recommend it. There's not really anything out there of this quality where you can essentially rock up in an uncaged car wearing your work clothes with a simple LS2 licence in hand. Of course, I would encourage some tighter safety practices by individuals but you get my gist.
Bring on Rnd 2 :)

Must bolt engine in 31 this weekend and get everything else bolted on and modified, this is exactly what it's being built for, Nothing hugely competitive, just something to have fun in and not worry if it breaks and have no car for monday :)
Did u say 31? R31?
Either way, these are the best events i've done to date, bring your mates, girlfreind mum dad, doesn't matter, bang for buck these will be the best events you can do with your mates sitt'n there right next to you, and you will scare the shit out of them

Yeah HR31, been too lazy to put new engine in this week, have all the brakes now, swaybars arriving this week, coilovers already fitted, do should stop and turn a tiny bit better, just gotta bolt seats and half cage in and should be done, for now...
Good stuff, love to have one of those, does it have a 20 in it?
Be good to see u at the next rally sprint
Yeah had a really good night, stuffed up plenty of times but kept it straight, so ready for next one, put 33 rear calipers on and needed brake bias valve to reduce rear brakes, works well, just have no handbrake

Never had the issue of locking the rears with our 31s and we used plenty of different caliper setups , Handbrake is an easy fix if you want one ..
Na, don't need handbrake, cheers
Rear brake locks may be something to do with the crap coilovers i have? not sure, first few events i did after fitting rear calipers it was real easy to slide into corners as the rears always locked, fit the bias valve and have turned it nearly all the way off and it works fine now?
Saw u there the other night, all go well?

OK rally stars, next Thursday is Rallysprint Round 2. So get it together and get your entry in stat. Looks like a good field already from the entry list as of a couple of days ago. About 50/50 split between 2WD and 4WD. All we need to do now is have a 2WD win! Sure...but won't stop me (and the others) trying.
I'm just hoping the Brett Morse M3 entry said 1988 as a typo, cause if he brings the turboed E30 that will make my life that much harder. But I do want to see it in action again. Torn...
Will be trying to enter but if car isn't ready I'll be down to watch.

Dammit Tom! .4 of a second! - As I was saying last night, I thought you drove pretty well in a car your not that experienced in.
I had an absolute blast for my first one but probably just watch the next one(bit low on coin) although definitely keen to do it again.. (if anyone needs a nav let me know!)
My times should improve with a bit more experience obviously and the car was pretty laggy out of 2 corners in particular which is a shame. I have to say though I thought the new 595evo's I bought off Westy held up really well and the fukn $80ea 2 year old neuton 5000's on the back where actually decent!!
Also nice to meet you Alex finally haha.

For each round do they run the same course?
Rallysprint.com.au is your source of info. Short answer is they run alternate directions for each event. Plus an extended course in July on Sunday if you've been good.
This time event goes the 'wrong' way for me as I have to lift off coming out of the snakepit to minimise rear chassis scrapeage. Otherwise would be going over 160k's, and that makes a small rise in the road get rather interesting. Makes good sparks I've been told...time to go invest in some titanium for skidplate spark show one day.
Ah ok.
Was looking at the times and the good guys at the front are consistently within a second of each run, but each round the times change by a few seconds.
Direction change seems to change times by about 4 seconds

What a night...
Tight finish at the top, about .3 seconds in it over 3 runs!
Expensive night for me. Scrappy first run, but all other 2WD's were around the same times, so no problem.
2nd run I flat spotted the RF tyre going into chicane after snakepit, bad enough that it's a bin job. Anyways, 50c tyre notwithstanding we got to the hairpin turn at the start of the goat track up the hill. Turns out the Kermit 4WD rally tyred WRX in front of us decided to go full gravel spec around there. Road covered in bollards and gravel. So that was run 2, which put us 3 seconds behind Brett's turbo M3. End of night for winning 2wd right there.
3rd run went well, though going easy on brakes to avoid finding flat spot again. Got a 35 second run, only 1 second off Brett. But pulling into finish control I made two unfortunate discoveries:
1) Clutch was dragging so couldn't get gears. End of night.
2) Co-driver had passed out somewhere out there! You know you're going hard (or very slow) when you can send someone to sleep...
Next month it's on again. Why do we do this? I'll be there but, good times...

Disturbd - Single pegging - yeah, sucks to be you on gravel I guess. Good you were out there and into it. Still, LSD not particularly helpful for me on dirt either. 8 throttle body induction = light switch throttle response = grandma style or dorifto stylin. No in between.
