Whats everyone do for a crust/work ?

Im 3rd year B.Business undergrad, should be finished within 6 months (part time)... can't wait to get out of there :)

I spend some time working at a 5 star Hotel, among things as a valet which is pretty cool.... I also do project/assignment work for various companies.

Also looking into the possibility of starting my own online business at some point in the near future.

McLOVIN

Temping smokes pole. I did it for like 2 years and it sucked hardcore. More money than permanent but no sick pay or anything.

I could never go back to that.

Well considering i used to work for a company that paid me below award wage, wouldnt let me take holidays and if i had a sick day i would be ignored by the bosses for two weeks .... this is bliss. :)

I dont know what i want to do and end up changing jobs every 7 months anyway so i prefer this ....im free ... i can take holidays when i want and i dont owe the companies i work for anything. So far i havent been outta work for too long so i cant complain :) Guess it isnt for everybody but i get paid rather well so im not complaining.

McLOVIN
25-11-2003, 11:59 AM
Furry muff. I found the agency I temped for, and the company I temped at, to be utterly hopeless. But they had been good to me in the past so I stuck with them as long as I could stand it. Then they simply stopped giving me work.

If you enjoy what you do, it's different. I didn't enjoy getting reamed so yer.

Nizmo
25-11-2003, 12:05 PM
you apply to more than one temp agency .... even thte temp agency i applied for suggested it would be a good idea to do that. But ive never had too cos they basically got me work straight off.

McLOVIN
25-11-2003, 12:11 PM
Yeah that's why I stuck with the agency I was with. They had always found work for me, but in the end, I was stuck doing shitty short term jobs for the 1 company. So I found myself a permanent position.

I'm mostly a 3rd year uni undergrad but currently bored out of my brain on 'industrial training' at a particular finanicial institution.

I occasionally work in a cafe at the international airport and do casual audit/market research work and am trying to start my own business.

Pretty standard really :)

was stuck in the trades for years and years, had a bad experience so i took a year off and lived off working on cars and dealing parts etc, now landed a job as a Trades Assistant at a printing place in the city where i get paid to sit and watch paper go thru a machine for more than i ever got managing a multi million dollar aircon business for someone hahaha.

theres more to life, dont get stuck in a job you dont like, chase your dreams cos life is too short.

I was doing a bit of random IT stuff for a little while after doing a couple years of TAFE, didnt enjoy it anymore, so canned that. I've been working at Coles aswell to supplement my pay, i find it actually more enjoyable than sitting at a computer, call me crazy.

So looking for another job atm, need decent car, haha. Might even study again.

I'm not quite old enough to have a licence therefore I don't have a car...future ambition is to own an Evo 3 and/or 6! Ohterwise a Skyline will do!! hehehe

And before you ask my old man...no teenage girls on't come cheap when it comes to buying these things!!

Kel
20-12-2003, 04:21 PM
No actually it has made it harder!! The old man has seen some of his customers do things the regret in their cars, and my older sister had a car with a turbo and after te latest boyfriend none of us girls will be in fast cars until we can pay for it..still get to drive the GTR when I get a licence though, so I can fulfil the need for speed occassionally! Especially after the engine rebuild...my Mum really wants a 10 second GTR...hasn't she got a long wait ahead of her?

Im at Rick Hart in Northbridge.
As for firing me, not a chance, its quite common for me to sell shit to mates etc at cost price as I seem to have that sort of authority around the place :werd:

Most named brand electrical product (Sony, Panasonic, LG, Philips etc) has approx 15-20% mark up on it, so thats a fair saving on a brand new product with a manufactures warranty if anyone out there is in the market

suburban
24-12-2003, 05:20 PM
ive been told that some shops have the cost price on a barcode sticker with a few other numbers infront like a serial. so basically the last few numbers are what the item cost at cost price

Its common practise and allowable to sell items every once in a while at cost price. I do it all the time down at

Audio Intensity in Beach Road Malaga - Hint Hint! - Stockists of Alpine Clarion JVC JL Kenwood and more - Mates own the place so I bum around often and lend a hand - So I get to give mates a good deal.

Im always willing to help you all save a few bucks on audio gear. Pm me with any requests. Please no "get me a $2000 deck for 50 bucks" as ill just ignore it :)
