View Full Version : 1j into cressida

sick of going slow ive decided to have a crack at putting a 1j into a cressida, over the last 12 months ive started working on my own cars etc. swapped a couple of motors, diffs, gearboxes etc and now that my tool collection has grown to at least the basics ive decided to have a go at this popular conversion.

rather than sit here and ask the hundreds of questions I have, is anyone able to point me in the right direction for the info?

I guess the main things are, what version cressida or old chaser do I want. what kind of car do I want the 1J out of? supra? chaser? soarer?

do the cressida diffs and gearboxes hold up and whats the go with wiring? swap the loom or is it plug and play.

and the big one... apart from the exhaust, is any fabrication needed?

so much for not asking hundreds of questions...

cheers :P

i am currently playing with a 1j in a volvo.

my best advice is to forget the 1j idea and go with a 25.

2J*

srsrlsly though a 1J will be a lot easier then putting a RB in there.

Easy is what I'm going for.

Can't weld, have no idea with wiring diagrams so the less I have to outsource the better

Its a bolt in job? compared to fabbing up engine/box mounts and crossing the exhaust over, etc...

It appears so.

Any Cressida will work. Series 1 (Zenki) and 2 (kouki) are a lil different, and this just changes the engine mounts required. Grande has the LSD budddddeh.

Everything you need can be purchased from here:

Oh you also need a front sump JZ. These are found in JZX81s, JZX90s and JZX100 (VVTi). If you get a 1J that isn't front sump, you can purchase front sump conversions.

Just buy one completed.

Unless you get a free motor and box, youll never get it done as cheap as these are in 2012.

Great fun cars for minimal outlay.

Mine still gives me fond memories*

*ive deleted the exploding motor at 2am xmas eve from my memory.

Since theres lots of toyota fans in here, can someone tell me where to pull relay trigger source for full pumps on a 96 1jz non vvti ecu?

can you live with an auto cressy? cause with the cost/hassel of a manual conversion you would get more value with a manual r31 etc

i enjoyed my 1j cressy while i had it but auto gearboxes are not my thing.

Decent complete one. Anywhere from 600 - 1000 (non VVTi). Cressida box can be used as far as i am aware.

I have an auto one. While i dislike autos generally, it's great as a daily driver. Just chuck in Shift kit for a little extra fun.

Why can't you use the PowerFC to trigger it?

Probably could but need to know what pin

My car is currently being tuned with PowerFC. Tuner is putting in a relay to trigger the fuel pump ECU on start up, and to tunr it off when it stalls etc etc. I'll ask him when i pick it up for details for you.

Could by mine for 4.5. Buy another cleanish cressida and swap everything over. My chassis is fairly shagged.
