Been keeping tabs on this Ekranoplan after stumbling across it a few years ago on the net. Plans are to rebuild it or make a new one last time I heard (Doubt it)

when you think about it that thing is actually pretty useless. Awesome piece of engineering but during a conflict it would be a sitting duck to any sort of air attack.

so it cant turn, has to take off into the wind, can only fly low, can only take off from water and needs spotter boats/vehicles to spot any possible obstacles infront of it. yeah sounds like a great war plane

Was interested in these a few years back, very cool though maybe not the be all and end all - More fragile than a landing ship but much faster, and much more capable than a transport plane in landing bulk gear and troops on a beachhead.

Don't think that is the one I've come across on random docos - heaps of videos on YouTube though. Everything will probably remain a theory anyway.. but if it is true that the Americans brought a lot of the German/Nazi Engineers back along with their advancements and studies for further advancements who knows what is possible!

Wars can be advantageous, culling of the weakest of the species (man made Darwinism) and also massive advances in technology due to necessity... Economies also are substantially effected

Meh, looks like a useless plane. Other than large cargo capacity that is. Can't defend itself, is not easy to manouver, needs special conditions to take off, yeah, nah... No wonder this sort of technology never became popular.

And there are heaps of planes that can carry nuclear warheads too... so that's nothing special here.

No, just built by the same bloke (Wernher von Braun ) who was taken out of germany by the yanks just before it fell - and he built ballistic missiles for the yanks before he was allowed anywhere near the space program. He also designed the Saturn V rockets that got man to the moon as well.

The US has alot to answer for in this dept. I've got strong beliefs in this, and alot to say, but basically it all whittles down to Oil, and War, and keeping the cogs turning over in the economy so the country doesn't plunge into crisis.

US Currency is being kept afloat by all of the foreign oil it's tied to. Until very recently, it was compulsory that all oil be traded in USD, something that Nixon very smartly set up when he was in power. This meant that all countries had to keep a stockpile of USD, which meant they had to trade with the US, which made the US economy stronger than most.

And when a country has tried to move away from using USD as payment for oil, (Iraq in 2000, Libya in 2011, Syria in 2012, and Iran coming up) the US has gone in under false pretenses, 'liberated' the country, established a central bank, and returned the country to using USD as payment for oil.

It all makes perfect sense really.

the first rockets launched into space by the US were V2's assembled in America with parts they took from Germany by German scientists. Should have said the US instead of NASA they didnt form til like the 60's.
