Hello
As the title suggests i am doing some hard fuel lines in my ute.
What material would be best to do them in stainless or aluminium, will be running some sort of e85 in the future.
Would 3/8 line be enough for supply and return or should i go 1/2 inch and maybe 3/8 return.
I am running twin aeromotive stealth intank pumps and some ID 2000's if i can offload my sard 800's.
Thanks

Go with whatever line suits the AN fittings (I'm assuming) out of your pumps/rail, as it will save you buying adapters/step down fittings etc. I believe most fuel hard line is ally.

My s15 has 1/2" supply and either a 3/8" or 1/2" return. (cant remember atm)
made from ally tubing. I'm also looking at running e85.

I am starting out with nothing as the old 22r fuel lines just wont cut it so have to buy everything anyway so adaptors are no problem.
Also running a sard rail and want to run a twin feed to the rail.
Is it worth getting it shipped from east/USA or is it just as cheap to buy here once it has been shipped.

Cheaper to buy from aus. Chris mills have it

^^ Interesting...
In the case of ethanol-specific systems, it would appear aluminium doesn't like anything above E10: http://www.nmma.org/assets/cabinets/Cabinet103/E20_Position_Paper.doc
For a regular fuel system, however, I can't think of any reason other than aluminium succumbing to fatigue failure even from small forces (eg. out-of-phase vibration between connected components, in this case), whereas steel will never fail if it is exposed to forces not exceeding its fatigue limit.

pretty sure standard holden lines are ally, so i cant see why an engineer wont pass.

Are VE's not specifically noted to be compatible with E10, and nothing higher?

Rego isnt much of a concern but catching on fire is.
Does Chris mills stock the stainless line as well?
I think i might go and have a look tomorrow.

if CMP dont have it check out enzed, they should stock it.

Not sure about the Stainless, but i used black anodised aluminium tubing with black fittings from Chris mills for both my feeds to fuel rail., easy to bend, (no good for super tight bends as the anodising can crack) but does look really tidy and Semi stealth. definitly worth it to replace standard lines either way.

Honestly can't remember the price mate, (spend soo much on cars I try to forget the prices) :p but Im fairly sure it's arround $40-$50 for a 25 foot roll of 3/8 black tube. Though your best bet is to give them a call so you know the price for sure. :)

-8 AN teflon inner braided stainless is the go it will run any fuel
You can use it for main and return lines
Go to chris mills performance they have the line and fittings you will need
each fitting will come with its own olive
This line is not legal .

why is it illegal? I run 3x -8 teflon lines under mine 2 for supply 1 for return mounted to the chassis with individual rubber lined P clips and my engineer said it was fine and passed vehicle examination without a hassle.

Lines for fuel that run under the car are to be solid for DPI approval
which pit licensing centre did you go to ?
I will go there for my inspection when the car is finished

4.1 FUEL LINES
The fitting of alternative or replacement fuel lines may be performed without certification,
provided that:
- the installation is in accordance with good engineering practice;
- all components used are unmodified;
- the fuel lines are secured, properly supported and shielded against heat, abrasion and
impact damage; and
- the fuel lines do not leak.
Going by these guidelines (extracted from NCOP9 Section LM, page 8/31), braided lines would be fine so long as they are properly supported, however generic non-braided lines would not be.
As an added precaution, I personally would still incorporate a "bash-plate" (or something similar) along the length of the lines.

No luck at Chris Mills with the stainless tube, cant even get it in for me.
Any other ideas of where to find it?

What you're looking for (in those sizes) is generally referred to as aircraft tubing, as that's one of its common uses.
Keep in mind stainless tubing will be significantly harder to bend than ally tubing (but worth it), and you will also have to use stainless steel AN fittings to prevent galvanic corrosion.

cost more for shipping than product but it is still cheaper than anywhere in aus that i could find and it comes shipped in a nice coil and boxing etc.

For anyone interested i ended up getting some 1/2 inch feed and 3/8 return line from Stirlings in canningvale.
6 meters of each for 60 dollars.
I will have to polish it now though as it comes in a raw finish, should i just sand it down and polish it?
