"If a motorcyclist can make himself more visible he's less likely to be hit," Sgt Gore told ABC radio."
Whilst the above may be true, I still think it's only part of the solution. I still believe driver awareness is key as well as safe splitting techniques, etc.
In WA especially there's been a spate of deaths this year, do we think wearing fluro colours is going to help?
Thoughts?

Yep.... def. think it would help but also yes... driver awareness(or lack there of!) is a bigger problem.
A lot of drivers cannot see others cars on the road so what chance does a motorcyclist have of being seen?

Just need to ban bikes. Riders are all hooligans imo
Would it help... probably. Do I encourage the idea of being forced to wear fluro's, hell no.
From my experience with riders driver awareness is the big issue; a lot of Perth drivers people don't look/expect a bike there when driving/ are retarded.
Not to take the onus off the riders whom are sometimes as silly as the drivers. I've personally seen many riders come up fast then sit next to someone/me/in the blind spot.
dont ban motorbikes, just ban the cyclists. At lease motorbike owners pay rego!

Was waiting for somenoe to mention it, but I agree with you jerk - I don't like being told what to do and the idea of being enforced to wear a bright yellow jacket irritates me!
I'd like to see the crash stats, ie: how many of this year's accidents were at intersections where the bike or car hasn't given way, etc. I think it'd be interesting to go back over the data and see if it slings either way more so.
Definitely agree more rider awareness would play a vital role - one of my pet hates is seeing a rider unneccesarily in a bigger vehicle's blind spot. There's so many things we as riders can do to help to prevent an incident - but do we actively employ all these measures everytime we jump on the bike?

Meh if people in cars can see a blazing headlight or hear a bike approaching a fluro vest ain't gonna help.
Stupid idea is stupid

All new bikes should be sold with 2 extra wheels & some sort of metal/alloy/composite shell surrounding the skeleton... Wait, what?

I think it would reduce a certain type of accident for sure.
I consider myself bike aware but a few times I have found myself just not seeing a bike when I should have (intersections). Fortunately I did at the last second and haven't had any incidents.
Surely someone can make those colours look good... Which is the only real complaint, isn't it?
Because you're rebellious and all that.

maybe need to work on ur road craft a bit more rather than making yourself more visable. Its not hard to make ur position known to the vehicles around and you soon learn to read the traffic and predict where and when people are going to make a move.
Awareness and experience will do way more than chucking a fluro vest on in keeping alive on the roads. This topic is running on PSB as well some one on there posted that studies have proved that fluro make no diffrence to how visable you are to other road users. There is also a link giving evidence that if fluro became a common thing then it no longer stands out meaning you go back to being un-noticed.

That's a good point. There's so much going on on and next to the roads these days with big signs, hyper-colour paint jobs, flashy shit, road works, etc, that people just don't pay attention anymore. Not much 'active' driving going on during the trip to and from work. Tradies eating meat pies for breakfast, chicks still putting on make up. It's like people don't realise what can suddenly go horribly wrong just might...

i haven't got a bees dicks worth of time on two wheels just yet, my comments above are based on noob nervs! my personal experience with flashing lights on pushies is that it makes them alot more visable from a distance almost to the point of distraction hence me not being opposed to them on motorbike....but like i said, fark all time/road craft skills at the moment and my vagina weeps at the thought of getting amongst it!
i like to think im a pretty 'aware' driver though and constantly make predictions/calculations/adjustments. i think that has more to do with my driving style. hopefully my awareness/skills & experience in the cage translate to being a safe rider in the near future :)

I say everyone just needs to be more vigilant at concentrating on the road, drivers and riders. No big words or fluro whatever will save anyone unless everyone grows up and realises the road is not the safest place and just thinks a little more. This goes equally for the car drivers that can concentrate for longer than it takes to pull out of the driveway, and bike riders that think the road is a race track and it's their right to do as they like.

^^ I know a few people who have this sort of better judgement about themselves and I respect it entirely!
