Hello ladies, I'm a bit anal retentive about vehicle maintenance.
Both my cars are modded, one is an ls1 the other is a 4g63 currently running mobil1 5w30 in both. Not really a mobil fan and I change the oil every 3500 or 3000 give or take just because both of them sit dormant for some time. Was looking at changing oils to something different, what do those in the know recommend? Was looking at Penrite or royal purple?
Any good or bad stories are welcomed about any oil, I'd love some feedback :-)

Thanks

Motul 300V Comp (if your tracking it) or else normal 300V is what i used and can't fault it

with the frequency he is changing oil, Motul is a waste IMO.

I've always been told to run Motul 300V chrono but seems its mostly suggested if tracking a car a fair bit which I don't... oil and filter for that would be about $140-$150 (IIRC) where as using what I use now, Penrite HPR10 10W-50 (IIRC) costs $60-$70 all up....car sits dormant too for a while and no problems.

The Penrite oil itself seems to work well for me (stock-ish JZA80)

Cost isn't an issue to be honest if it means my engine stays healthy internally. I had not even considered Motul if I am honest, might give it a shot in the Evo and see how long it remains clean.
I'll smash Penrite through the Ute and see how that goes, it's go a fair whack of top end noise due to cammage, so nothing will shut it up anyway

motul burns black quickly its just a characteristic of the oil

I use 300v every 7000. For the ls1 castrol edge will do.

Means the oil is doing its job too!. Use to use MobilOne fully synthetic 5W50 at Xspeed. Motul 300V is also a good choice. Thinking of running the Royal Purple in Mine. Heres an interesting article to read.

Pretty oldschool but you get the idea.

Why do you want to change from Mobil 1.

Cause it won't be free anymore LOL. My new workplace uses castrol :( I'll no doubt switch to Penrite

After reading that article I'm glad I'm using Penrite.

How old is the article though? I remember coming across it years ago. Is there anything more current showing oil testing?

I used to run RP in my Turbo 4L, had very very good results from it. RP recommended a 10k km change interval with a filter at 5k. I recently changed back toPenrite Sin/Racing,with It the forgies are slightly noisier on a cold start but no other noticeable effects. If I could get RP for wholesale I would still be using it but RP has gone up and up and has priced itself out of what I can justify spending on a street car.

Article is pretty bloody old, I remember reading it when I was fairly young, still it's good information, and I have not seen another test like that carried out since.
