TV Aerial issues?

Hi Guys,

I know there are a fair few people on here who are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to home audio/tv's on here so i thought i'd try my luck.

I've only just moved into a different house in the past week and only set my tv up last night, and for some reason i can only get channel 7 and all of its digital channels ie 7mate, 70, 71 and unfortunately, 74. I was getting glimpses of channel 9 but that stopped very quickly.

I've since bought a different flylead cable which has not fixed the issue, infact this one couldn't even get 7.

Would this mean that my aerial is stuffed? it is a dish. Are dishes shit for free to air tv? good the antenna just be facing the wrong way?

try retuning the tv.
is the antenna pointing the right way, as the digital siginals are from a different directing to analoge.
also is the antenna on the outside of the roof

I'll try and re-tune the TV when i get home, Antenna is on the outside of the roof.

Mate had similar thing when he moved recently - TV couldnt get channel 10 and he swapped cables and aerial ports etc .. anyway he got aerial guy out and he re-tuned TV .. all fixed - LOLS were had.

Rather that create a new topic, this is somewhat related. We had a new aerial go onto my folks house about 2 months ago, all channels were working perfectly. Now for some reason Channel 9 will not work at all, it is a brand new Samsung 55 inch LED TV. I have done the Plug N Play and also automatically searched for all the channels numerous times. The TV is showing a 90% signal strength so it should be fine..

Odd thing is, ABC which generally has the weakest reception is working 100%. All channels involved in 9 (GO, 91) are simply not there...

Any ideas where to start? firmware?

I dont know if this info helps but apparently they shut off the analog signal yesterday. only digital channels now.

Got antenna dude out. Fitted the most poxy smallest looking f**ked antenna. Got mast arms about 3mm fat and about 400mm at the longest point. Fitted Amplifier to Antenna.

Best tv signal I have ever had in my life. 6 tv points in the house and works a real treat in every room! and every channel.

Reason for small antenna. ? not sure if it's true, but too small for the crows to land on. Outside to get no interference.

Less than $500 for amp, new antenna and fitting. Good deal I thought.

It's cause the digital frequencys dont need wide antennas to be picked up, i'm eventually going to get a digital antenna for my place as well.

Nah it's been going on for a few weeks. I think we were having trouble finding ABC so i did the auto retune and 9 never got picked up again..

So what direction does this digital antenna have to point? I just went from tiled roof to colourbond and I have a feeling the decade old antenna facing the wrong way to everyone else in the roof space may no longer provide me with most channels (I forgot to try last night but I already couldnt get SBS)

I had issues with my TV Aerial dropping in poor/cloudy weather.

Cracked the shits, went to bunnings and bought the antenna that suited what I wanted (cant remember size/brand), bought new cable terminations and a crimp tool. Cut about 5cm off the old RG6, stripped and attached to new aerial using old mounts on roof and did the same to the point in the wall. Have not had a problem since.

Weird you mention Channel 9 - our TV stopped picking up all the Ch 9 channels last night - 9, Gem, Go and all that - said no signal about 11pm-12 from memory.. all other channels were working.

Mine is faciing NNE with perfect picture, rain,hail, shine clouds works a treat.

Mine does the same, just finds repeat channels of the same channel on a different channel if that makes sense.

I turned the feature off and doesn't come up any more. Once in a blue moon I do a scan to pick up new channels.
