While sitting at a Booze bus on scarb beach rd last i noticed a guy walking up the line of cars inspecing cars.
Definatly not a cop , as he turned around it said on his vest " Traffic inspector" , he had a hand held device in one hand checking loudness or emmisions on cars . It had a round foam thing on the end then pulled oiut a electronic tint guage thing placing it over the half wound down windows checking tint darkness on all the cars with tint. Lucky i didnt get checked as i have 20 grade . He also was walking around checking all tyres on he cars and not just from the side but acually getting really low to the ground checking the inners
Just a heads up ...

Guess if u get done you can't complain really as at least the things u get pinged for will actually be illegal and not just shit made up by some cop on power trip.
These traffic police have been used at booze busses for over 10 years. Its not something new, just saying :)

Have they always had traffic inspectors doing it? I have only ever seen police doing it

Yes,
I got 8 yellows in two years around 2001-03, most from being asked to pull by traffic cops onto the median strip just after the booze bus. You would pass the booze test but drive off with a yellow sticker instead :(
The hand held thing with a foam tip would be a DB reader.

All police on booze buses are "traffic police", aka all TEG

Traffic Inspectors are main roads "police officers". Same powers to pull over a vehicle, obtain your details, and prevent any road offences. Unusual for them to deal with anything but heavy vehicles but well within their rights.
I have also seen fisheries at booze bus sites, as many as there were cops !!

Yeah we had the fisherys order us out the car to search it coming out og gero. They have more power then police, dont need a warrent to seach

Pretty sure cops don't need a warrant to search cars anyway

All cops need is reasonable suspicion to search your car

Fisheries having more search powers than Police is a very old myth. They have no more power than Police, and are just as accountable for ensuring they follow the person's rights when being searched.
Warrants aren't needed for searching vehicles by Police or Fisheries. However Fisheries aren't allowed to search premises without a warrant where as Police can if it's reasonable.

I've herd tales of guys refusing to have their car searched (just trying to be tough) then after that being hassled by every cop that crossed their path for the next few years because they were on some sort of suspicious vehicle database thingy. No idea how true it is but kinda makes sense.

I remember getting pulled over in malaga doing a silly speed at 3am one sat morning, no number plates on in the skyline i just imported from japan a week earlier. Got pulled over by gang unit. They asked if i had drugs in the car. I had some time to kill and made out that i was nervous and i said " If these is coke in the car its not mine, i just got the car from japan"
They spent the next hour going through the car hard, all fun and games till they found some asian cotton gloves and knife tucked in under the spare wheel well that was acually there from japan. I got grilled hard and they took the gloves and knife was evidence and i had to update my crimanal record with the new tattoos i just had done. Never heard anything again and got let off the 120 in a 70. Been 5 yrs since haha Shouldnt of been a smart ass

No yellow though but did inspect, rev the car (little blip) etc.

^ There goes the ICE!!! Ice ice baby... LULZ!
Got my first Yellow from a booze bus, after breath test he waved me to the empty lane and and asked to open my bonnet.
Car was an Turbo-ed NA honda accord. the officer asked me if that was stock. and i said it is totally stock from japan. Being a smart ass, he went to the data base and ping me with a yellow.
