Way to check if landline connected?

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone can help me. I purchased a house 7 months ago and had it rented out until recently, now i need to organise for internet to the house but all online "ADSL availability" checks require a land line phone number to check. Is the only way i can find out if it is connected to head there with an old phone and check for a dail-tone? or is it possible to call someone?

Plug in a phone to the landline, check for dialtone, call 12 72 21 23 to find out the last used number.
