Hi everyone,

I'm employed by EGT and was working for Everett Smith and got told I'm getting laid off from here this Friday so now I'm really considering working up North. I spoke to the people in the office and they have vacancies up north for FMG on a 4-1 roster or CMG on the same 4-1 both in the Pilbara.

I have a few questions..
Has anyone here got any experience working up north through EGT and how was it?
Who is better to work for between FMG and CMG?
What sites are both FMG and CMG at, at the moment?
What are these sites like?
What is the money like?
How do you get treated on site being an apprentice?

Any replies would be more than welcome

Thanks!!

What's your mates name? He would probably be working with Downer.
Bettsc from here also worked at Karara with EGT. Has since been signed off and employed full time with us.

I can't comment on FMG or CMG as I have never worked for them. I finished my apprenticeship at the start of the year. Worked up north for EGT for about 14 months, on RIO, BHP and Jindalbie Metals sites. EGT are fine to work away for, apart from the way too common payslip errors which I'm sure you are familiar with anyway. Get up there while you can and get the experience now, because if you want to do it later it will be harder to get up there with no experience.
The 4:1 roster takes a bit to get used to, but the money is good. Coming back from a swing with $10,000 in your bank as an apprentice is pretty fucking good. As far as how you will go fitting in, as long as you work hard and are keen to learn from people with experience you won't have any problems at all. If you act like a tool, you can expect to be treated like one too though.

Having dealt with FMG for a number of years based on site and in Perth, you quickly realise that FMG stands for "Four More Go's" or "Forever Moving Goals"

Im working For Nilsen at Fiona Stanley, and we just had 40 EGT lads from that site sent back to EGT, I was gunna sign up with them when i started my Apprenticeship but then got a call from Nilsen's, best decision ever made to stay away from EGT labour mob. Took me 3 months as a 3rd year Apprentice to buy my 08 VE GTS (All Cash-no loan required) Haha

Heard Nilsen Resources are looking...

I work for FMG up at Christmas Creek.

I'm pretty sure basically everything is contracted out. So your probably better off going through Downers or one of those mobs. Thats for FMG anyway, i couldnt comment on the others.
