View Full Version : How boring is your work/job?

Well it's 11:09AM, and we've run out of work already for the day, it's becoming quite a joke considering we are a major dealership.
I personally don't mind my job, love cars leaving here in better condition than when they come in, but as of late it has been dead, 15 mechanics, and less cars than that coming in each day. Is it just us ? I'm so bored, I spend more time working on my own cars on a hoist than customers, which is a good thing I suppose, but I've nearly run out of things to fix, I finally fixed the dash rattles in the Evo after 4 years. Painted all the underbodies of the Evo and the SSZ.
I've even run out of things to look at on here. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
So any how, my question is, how boring is your job?, and do you love it ?
I spent more time hitting "whats new" than actually working, sad but true

Work at a health food shop, lucky if we get 20 customers a day, each customer takes about 2-3 mins. So spend a lot of time bumming around researching stuff for the supra.
Currently boring since we're 1/2 way through handover, waiting for the client to do his check over and write up a list of defects, the. I'll spend 2 weeks fixing them up.

Work comes and goes here, we will usually get 3 weeks busy as fuck then 1-2 weeks it will be quiet again. Usually just the timing of the machines.they get built up and painted that's the busy time then the fitters go back on them and they get commissioned etc so no new machines come thru and that's the quiet week(s).
It's not to bad quiet weeks just mean longer breaks and more "toolbox" meetings. Plus if on days allows for early knock off. Nightshift sux tho cos we end up staying the full 12hr and if there is nothing to do it really drags out.

^^^ me pretty much.
I take photos of motorbikes and manage several websites and manage our "online social profile" - (ie. sit on Facebook)
If I want a quiet day I make a few big changes to the front page of one of the sites, send it through to show what I've done and spend the rest of the time on here, no one notices the hours poured into fixing little niggles elsewhere on the sites.
Got a phone call late Friday "urgent job, fly out sat morning"
Chartered a plane to broom, then 2 hour chopper flight... been watching TV ever since, limited channels... first world problems. Cant complain I guess, bit of a holiday away from busy busy work, but kinda hoping to do something soon, or fly home
I think the general consensus is, work is up and down.. you're never flat out 24/7, 365.
Back in 2006, I was part of a team that was employed full time within a large company, for a huge project... and then the project fell over during the GFC, so we weren't required anymore. Without explicitly telling us, it was pretty obvious that they attempted to make several of us quit our jobs, by giving us literally no work to do for about 6 weeks.
When I mean no work, I mean there was NOTHING to do whatsoever.. not even menial administrative stuff, as they had the executives PA's doing it before anyone could ask any questions.
Let me tell you, after about 3-4 weeks of surfing the net and going for coffees, you get REALLY frustrated. A few staff quit, and a couple stayed on and got paid out redundancy. I managed to hang in there (JUST) and in the end, got paid out a nice sum of money.
How did I do it? Antilag.com forums. Thank you, Antilag.

Work depends on how active thieves want to be over night.

John A, same guy from 5 years ago. FML by the way.
Good to see I'm not alone at least. Currently painting the rear rotors on the Evo, skimming the front rotors, adjusting the rear cannon, fixing the squeeks in the dash and rhf fender, so all in all, it's kind of cool being able to work on your own car all day and be paid for it.

Oil and gas engineering has seemed to slown down abit too I've noticed this last 1-2 weeks. In saying that though we were FUCKING busy for a good 3 or so months flat out so I'm sure there is more projects on the way...

The worst thing about having nothing to do is trying to account for it when filling out ur daily time card. A job u know is 1hr max and u write down 6hrs on it or 3hrs "workshop clean"

Spent all day putting new cam and lifters in a 6.0 and putting it back together. Not bad to work on compared to Korean Holdens they shit me to tears.
We are generally always busy so the day goes reasonably quickly.
I do hate being a mechanic though its a shit job haha.

Thats about where we are at too Marti, pretty shit.
Will be fitting a seat belt to my ute tomorrow and then maybe put a new A/C belt on it, then all my cars are basically done. Suppose I could do a timing belt and water pump on the Evo, change the fuel filter and shiz. Tomorrow is a new day

My job is boring because it is repetitive. Food/manufacturing, same shit different day. I can't believe I've stayed for just over 3yrs now, it was only meant to be temporary as I'm trying to get out of hospitality all together. There are days everything runs smoothly & work stays constant, other days like today, shit breaks down & you can't do much for a while. As much as people say they love doing nothing, I like being busy because the day goes so much quicker.

Same here, can't deal with boredom - extremely repetitive drafting work just makes a whole week drag on something chronic.
My last job was doing the duress systems for hospitals etc, problem was my company is based in sydney and melbourne. I was the only person who worked for the company in W.A so most days I didnt even go to work as anything that needed doing I could do from home if the systems failed or what ever. I worked out one month I actually got paid 2k an hour.
Its not fucking good, I now work back in an office environment and although I do fuck all, going back to working 5 days a week, 8-4 is taking some getting used to.

I do really hate being a Mechanic. If its not my own car I dont enjoy working on it. But Ive been at this current workshop since August and havent had a quiet day yet. The days seriously just roll into one another. Can't remember what I did last week. I barely remember what I did today. I don't mind it, made the days fast.
on my last 3 days of this gig. Then its 3 weeks of deliberately not looking for work.. Then maybe ill find a new job :)

What you want to do is bring those mega $$ you're on that Cherie keeps telling me about. And buy one of the apartments. That way it's a short walk to take home any ladies, plus if you're in the tower then they actually WANT to go with you!
That is the private section, where you can get them on your private section!

a bit over 3 months ago we went from having 9 people in the same role as me to 3-4 depending on sickies, one of them is a fucking lazy pingpingpingping of a thing too so we've been crazy flat out since then, usually 8+ hours before i get to return to the crib room for a proper break, makes the shifts go quickly but it's wearing on me, seems i'm always tired lately
