Got 3 phone sockets in the house, two are on the same number, the 3rd is disconnected/not terminated anywhere.

Main line comes into house and terminates to a wall socket between the kitchen and living room where the main phone is. The 2nd wall socket is in the main bedroom and has just been spliced off the main line (insulation has been stripped from copper and electrical style connectors used). I know a bit about data cabling and the, so I am going to assume this is not the ideal way of having a phone line split off to a 2nd socket.

Anyway, we have a 3rd socket at the opposite end of the living room where my modem/router sits (currently have an extension lead running from the main socket running behind the curtains etc).

The 3rd socket cable runs into the roof roughly where the main line runs down the wall to the main socket, but it is not connected.

What I would like to do is connect the 3rd socket up so I can run my modem off that rather than having the unsightly extension cable.

What is the best approach? Can I do it properly with a small Krone block and spilt off that?

Just remember the longer/older the line is your risk getting a lower sync speed.

At a guess, running up the wall and over to the main line - ~7 meters.

I'm probably getting more loss from the 10m extension lead and adapter off the main socket anyway.

You want it daisy changed from the main socket. Lead in -> main socket -> 2nd socket -> 3rd socket.

But the best way to do it requiring more effort is a box in the roof with the lead in and splice them all off the box like a star.

the following maybe illegal with out a austel license but....

find box on the outside of house were telecom lines come in. because it's had a seperate line it should be easy to spot the 2 wires for the unused line. pull the wires out and then punch them into the other wiring point with a krone or knife...

job done or you pulled the wrong phone line out. lol

Technically illegal tou touch Telstra box without Austel licence - however chances of getting caught are low
