View Full Version : SPOOL RB34 Stroker Engine into GTR

Anyone used one of these or looked into them? They claim that they're safe to spin to 9000rpm, so seem to be a decent option for the coin...
One of these with a decent sized huffer on E85/E100 would be an animal in comparison to a 26 one would think, having loads more low/mid-range power & torque as well as an increased peak figure.
Had a brief look at RB28 packages & decided i am either not baller enough or not stupid enough to endeavour on such a project just yet :D Haha

Last time I saw there was only 1 result from the motor, eg. not much testing
You're cashed up to the hill though so give it a crack :)
Otherwise best option is probably a RIPS RB30

I actually agree with Simon .....
Had some less then ideal dealings with Spool in the past. Afaik its all china copy parts.
Not to say it won't work though :)

Me cashed up?? Lol
Was originally looking at RIPS long motor, but wanted more info on these before i made a decision. If you can get an engine with ~15% more capacity & still rev it just as hard for similar $$$ (reliably that is), it would seem like the better option. Don't want to get one & spin it to 9000rpm on first time out & pop it, so thought i'd ask the question first.
Also, can anyone confirm that a 26/30 combo will go in a 33 without needing to modify anything due to increased height of block?

Not sure how many Spool 3.4 kits have been sold, but i remember seeing a dyno graph from their 3L kit to this 3.4L, with identical bolt ons.
Difference was fairly decent from what i remember.
Although it was a long time ago, my RB30 was built by Spool imports, then rebuilt by C-RED here in Perth, said they were impressed with how it was put together / clearances etc

Also, in an 32 GTR, it has bonnnet clearance issues, in an R33 i believe there is no issue. If you hold of for a month or so, i can test fit mine and close bonnet!

Yea seen that comparison on the Spool site, but doesn't really give an indication of longevity or even go close to 9000rpm. Not that i need to spin it that hard, but i'd definitely like to go 8000+ with the T88 hanging off the side...

Yeah, have not seen any other results as of yet.
If i had to do it again i would get a RIPS 3L, Spool dont supply the option to have billet main caps and girdle. Where as RIP do, much stronger setup!

Space is tight on R32s, R33 & R34s seem to be fine.
Can't remember you turbo config, but some HKS single manifolds push the turbo quite high and could be a problem, stock twins can reuse stock lines with a bit of care or thought.
Lower GB belhousing needs modification regardless of gtr model, front pipe / dumps will likely need extending also.
If you want 9000rpm, go the Spool or Nitto 3.2L stroker and I would go a billet mains for insurance.
If you can settle for 7.5-8000rpm Spool 3.4L are good to go.
A stroker will usually add about 2-3K to the price of the setup (basically the crank's value)
Either a well built RB30 (eg. RIPS) or a 3.2L stroker would be my preference, add vcam if your a true baller :p

Sweet, good advice!
Will pass on the V-cam setup for now though...
