It's often said there is two types of people who ride motorbikes.
Those who have fallen off and Those who are going to fall off.
I don't nessecarily believe this but at the same time there is some truth to it.

I'm sure there is a few people here who have been lookin at this section thinkin fuck yeah I want a bike and that's awesome but at the same time like anythin they can be dangerous and bight back even when u don't expect it.

So if you have had an accident big or small chuck up ur story.

I've had 2, the first was on my supermoto bike, came into a corner to hot an the back end slid round highsiding me up and over. I landed hard on my shoulder but thanks to wearing a decent jacket wihard plastic shoulder I escaped with just a sore shoulder and a couple days off work.

2nd time I wasn't so lucky, lost control while skimming a large puddle up metro rd and got thrown off the bike into a fence snapping 3 150mm wooden fence posts with my leg before cartwheeling back across the track. Resulting in a snapped right tibia fib. I was over work for 3mths and now have a titanium rod and 5 screws in my leg. Again I was wearing proper safety gear including a spine protector and I still believe without that I may not be walking today although it is with a slight limp.

Hmm had a few but nothing major so all is well:

Binned 2 road bikes when i was <16. A Honda VT250f (old school) and a Ducati TL600 Pantah (very fkn old school). Was brought up on and around bikes and was always doing stupid things on them. TL600 was just funny low speed retard job and TL was ~60-70km/h and landed me 3 purple, massive fingers - not from the doctor haha.

Flipped a 50cc scooter when i was 16 too... holding rear brake and hurting the centrifugal clutch while standing over it then releasing brake and jumping on rear end haha. Did a few pretty successful wheelies till it wanted to hit me in the face. Lesson not learned :)

Had a lowside on a zzr250 in the wet too, just pushing too hard, shit tires, thinking i was Rossi Jnr = broken collar bone. Was shit but found another ZZR cheap and made 1 decent bike out of the 2 and that lasted me a while.

Went apeshit at a tabletop on a Husaberg FS650, dirt kit but road suspension makes jumps kind of different... launched and instantly knew shit was about to get hurty. Mashed up right ankle and still feels fucked when it's really cold outside. Was supposed to do bulk physio n shit, but being superman at the time i didn't need it... DERP.

Got a massive rear slide on with a madcore off lips 97 TL1000s (original ECU, big ports, stupidly funny rear suspesion setup), knew highsides were poo so just fed it bulk gas till something happened.... kind of slid around and ended up under bike sliding a bit. Got stuck under it for a while with dumb fucks beeping horns and telling me to move........
Beat the shit out a highside though, that's for sure.

Had other bikes in the mix that I didn't crash :)

I used to ride 100% a lot and paid the price for that, but i learned a lot from doing so as well. I feel that I know where the limits are now, obviously through hurt as well, and can play with bikes.
Last bike was a 07 R1 and had some fun on that, but was too clinical and boring - my favourite bike of all time was the 97 TLs - always liked to remind you that it wanted you dead at all times and squirmed and wriggled around a lot.

I'm honestly a little surprised im not more broken from bikes, used to love riding in the wet and clutching it (gently) sideways and generally being a penis.

Torque > Power with bikes for the following reason:

very old pic of a old bike, my most beloved bike ever.

What can not be emphasized enough is to ware the correct safety gear, so often it is the difference between life and death.

I low sided my 250 not long after getting my licence trying to scrape the pegs on a cold greasy day. Couple of bumps on legs & arms, leathers saved me.

My old man does heaps of rides and witnessed many a stack where people have been flung into the bush at stupid speeds, some making it out with bumps and bruises, some being hospitalised and others not making it. Some of the worst were on the old curry runs with inexperienced riders, they stopped doing them as too many people were dying.

Was riding with Sammy's brother a couple of years ago and all he wore was cargos and a T-shit, I warned him not to but wouldn't listen. Got a tank slap on Reid Hwy and went over the handlebars at 130+, lost a LOT of skin and has not been on a bike since. Had he been waring full leathers dare I say he would only have minor bruising.

-As I was about to click post a chick on a scooter just flung it down the road outside work. Usual open face helmet, sandals and work clothes with a rain jacket - NOT FUCKING SMART. She is ok, grazes and bumps but hopefully lesson learnt!

Have dropped farm bikes more times than I can remeber, allways low speed, but quite often hillarious!

My VTR250 came to an unfortunate end on the way home from work one day when an un licenced un insured driver decided to pull out on me, I dove left and low sided trying to miss him. Bike was a write off, thank fuck for insurance!

Jacket took most of the punishment, work pants were ruined ALWAYS WERE WOOL NOT NYLON! I walked away with a bit of bruising and a tiny bit of skin missing.

Obviously riding gear isnt allways practicle, but always were as much as you can! the minimum being gloves and a good jacket.

Off road bike, YZ 250 2 stroke. Flat tack on the road in the rain, no front brake no helmet. Top of 3rd gear power band i came up to a cul de sac and applied the back brakes and it did nothing, locked up and just slid. Bike went down slide strait into the kerb then through a wire fence. Lost mega loads of bark, somehow didnt take my leg out on the kerb. Lots of bruising

Yilgarn Rallye in 2009. Head on with another bike who was coming back up the track for some reaosn, I was doing about 90-100. Remember nothing for about 2.5hrs, massive concusion, lost all feeling in left side of face for about 4 months, reasonable short term memory loss for a few months. Not a broken bone or scratch on me due to wearing every bit of kit I could get!

Never dropped a roadbike, but come close a few times!

riding along the face if a dune and fell long side over onto my leg and couldnt lift the bike to get it off, had to drag the bike down the dune to get it off. Oh i was fine, filled my fucking boots with goddamn sand though!!!

Ive been fairly lucky while riding dirtbikes as i was one of those paranoid to get hurt kinda people. I rode within my limits had a few scary moment which i cant remember now so cant of been that bad.

Ive been with people that have had bad stacks, the main one was a guy i used to ride alot with flogging of down a straight gravel road which the mofo would have driven a thousand times, missed th 90 degree coner at the end and went up the bank through a barb wire fence and landed under a tree. Pulled the fence down and half of his clothes still hooked on the fence, ripped a hole right through his neck exposing his jugular, pingpingpingping was real real fucking real lucky. To his credit was all stictched up and joined us at the camping trip we were all heading out for.

sort of related

ive had a few stacks on my quads over the years.

First one was on my LTR450. Was at a mates farm in cowaramup and i decided to go for a put put along one of the trails. I squided it until i got to the bottom of his drive and thought, nah, best put a shell on. Went back and sorted that out.

Was heading down the trails, not pinging, but not stuck in 2nd gear either. Got as far as i wanted before thinking i best turn around before i get lost. Decided to push a bit harder as i 'knew' the track now. Came into a lefty, moving a bit fast and hit the skids, locked the front and made a B-line for a tree that had falled over. Hit that, bike stopped and i flipped over the front and the tree and landed on my arse - as if i was sitting down, leaning against it.

Bike had slight bent frame, toe was out and i was a bit achy - thank fuck for wearing helmet

fast forward 4 years, august gone

Raptor 700 with mods. Sitting on the side of the road at yanchep waiting to cross wannerz. Chatting to bro n law about how i need to bleed brakes as they aint doing much. Cross and start on the track. Went wide on a corner and recovered and thought 'time to play catchup' pushed hard and again, into a lefty, understeer, brake (lack of) tree on ground, hit, flip and land in bush upside down

EXACT same stack as the one on the LTR, however i snapped a steering knuckle, pushed my A-arm back a fraction and twisted the spline on the steering stem

lesson learnt =
avoid fallen tree's
suzuki stronger then yamahahah
bleed brakes and dont ride like tit

So ive only been riding bikes for just over 12 months now, during this time ive witnessed 16 crashes of others, and had 2 myself. These crashes vary between burbs bashing and country riding, inexperienced and experienced riders, mostly with PSB.

My first crash was on my Ninja 250, i was with an experienced rider of 30+ years on a ZX-10, heading along canning mills road, west bound. My mate was about 200 metres infront of me coming up to a blind right hander, as he entered the corner i lost sight of him, i then entered the corner, picked my exit point, only to not see my mate down the road, i instantly took a sideways glance to my left only to see a dust cloud heading straight into the bush, my first reaction was to just stop and get there to help as quickly as possible, not remembering i was mid corner, and grabbing the front brake at over 100, standing my bike up, within what seemed like 1000th of a second, i find myself heading straight off into the exact path where i had been looking, gravel, trees and bushes is all i could feel whilst getting hurdled off my bike.

After coming to it after about 30 seconds i would say, i was yelling out to my mate to see if he was ok, dead silence.... After making sure everything was still in tact and movable, i heard a car pull over as they could see my bright green skittle smashed up against a tree, conveniently it was the car full of elderly women that we had just overtaking not 2 minutes ago. After copping an ear bashing about being a bunch of wreckless hoons, i urged them to head to the property a few hundred metres down the road to use their phone to call an ambulance.

I've now moved further into the bush to find my mate, ive finally found his bike also wrapped around tree, after another 30 seconds of searching, i finally find my mate, unconcious under a big shrub, left side of his helmet caved in, he is barely breathing and sounding like darth vader, i made the decision not to move him whatsoever as by the impact on the helmet his head/neck has taken a hammering, i sat there next to him trying to talk to him for the next 20 minutes whilst an ambo got on the scene, longest 20 minutes of my life that felt like hours and every barely drawing breath i thought was his last.

Once the ambos arrived they put on the neck brace, removed his helmet, i cut off his jacket, which didnt happen to be an armored jacket, nor did it have a back protector, this was a one off too, he had boots and leather pants on. we put the stretcher under him and off into the ambulance. Went down to Armadale hospital, i just walked into the ER to have the routine check, found out i broke my big toe! Whilst due to confidentiality i didnt find out what happened to my mate till the next morning. Turns out he has broken his eye socket, cheek, Jaw, one side of ribs cracked, a punctered lung, and a broken neck and a broken back...and somehow the spinal cord is still in tact.

After 3 months of laying flat on a bed whilst the spine fuses, a shit load of physio, and he is already back on a bike 7 months later.
I walked away from there feeling like the luckiest person alive, to have missed every single tree was a miracle, and it could have easily been me laying in that hospital bed. If i had not of been there, he and his bike were so far off the road into the bush, i dare say he wouldn't have been found and would have probably died. I believe that is the only reason i managed to walk out of there.

My second incident i was knocked off my bike by another rider taking the inside of me whilst taking a corner, which resulted in a low speed lowside, and a fucked knee, to become more fucked. One of 8 titanium bolts was pushed through the bone into my hamstring when the bike landed on my knee, bit of pain, and the Docs say i need to get all 8 out sometime soon.

Overall, 1 written off Ninja 250, 1 lowsided CBR thousand.

Hmm me thinks a few PSB'rs on ere so you should all recognise my log on name (save for the 'Mr').

Had a massive 100kph loop in October 2010, 4th gear standup on a WR450 during a commute section of ironstone rally enduro, everything going awesome on a gravel road until got to a cattle grid that I could not see because of dust of bikes in front, rear wheel spinning to keep front aloft on gravel then hits metal bar of cattle grid and in a flash I have looped and bounced on my ass. Full gear including spine protector and neck brace, boots, armour the lot. ended up with a compressed L5, written off bike and bark off my right wrist (glove ripped). recovered eventually but still have a numb patch on my right ass cheek

been on plenty of group rides over the years where there has been horrific crashes (death and severe injuries).

Missus is due to give birth to our first kiddy wink in 3 months so about 4 weeks ago I sold my last road bike, a 10 Rossi Rep R1 which was my fifth R1.

I've done plenty of riding so far and I've not really had any big offs. I do agree with the age old saying though "Those who have fallen off and Those who are going to fall off."

I've never tried to push myself while riding on the roads, the track would be a bit different but in terms of riding on a race track on a bike I've had only one experience. In saying that though and in keeping with the above statements I have had plenty off minor offs and crashes while riding quads/dirt bikes and I did fall off twice in the stupidest ways on my most recent big trip around AUS.

First was at 9,000km's in NSW parking on a steep hill and the weight caught me off guard, the 2nd was around 13,000km's at a place we stayed for the night that we had to leave in a hurry and I mistakenly left a pad lock through the front disc to prevent theft that night.. I got about 3 feet. It was rather embarrassing and stupid of me but you live and learn!
(Ironically after the old man had taken the piss out of me over the incident for the last year, he forget about his on his most recent solo trip on the second night and had the same thing happen to his bike, he doesn't take the piss anymore :D )

I low sided my bike today riding to work.

I spent all morning trying to decide if I was going to ride or just take the bus, in the end I figured I might as well just ride - I honestly think part of me just wanted to see what it was like to ride in the wet. I live near the coast and as I rode down there I kept thinking to myself this was a bad idea, there was so much water on my visor I could barely see anything other then car lights.

I just passed over the intersection in Tydeman and Queen Victoria when the car in front of me braked, I went to brake and next thing I was sliding on the ground and the bike was sliding in front of me :( No shuddering, no skidding, nothing, just all of a sudden I've fallen and the bike's sliding. I probably came off at low speed, maybe 30-40kmh.

If you're familiar with the road, it's always got trucks on there leaving from the port - I have a feeling it was a bunch of things that caused me to go down, the emulsion on the road from all the rain and my tyres being very unsuitable for wet riding - I'm sure rider error played a role in this as well - I'm not going to pretend I don't make mistakes. Not a huge amount of damage to the bike, but there's at least 4 or so sections that need a repaint including the whole right hand side fairing, tail and part of the nose cone and the crank case, mirrors, levers, clip on's etc all need replacing.

Sucks having to learn the hard way, sadly I'm just struggling to catch a break at the moment. I should be grateful that I wasn't hurt seriously - my jeans (regular jeans) were intact, I've got a cut on my ankle and my knee and hip are bruised. Jacket, backpack and helmet all seemed to be untouched.

I've had plenty of off's on a dirtbike before, I've got a scar on the back of my left leg from having a spill on one, I've done a front flip over the front of my bike and just had plenty of falls here and there.

Huge thanks to Dan Rignall today for picking me up and taking my bike to the panel shop. I owe him massively.

Ive ridden Honda, Yamaha, ducati, Ktm and fell off a bit but the one that came closest to killing me ...some chinese junk off ebay. Yep I know ...i should have known better.

out for some basic ridding up at the farm and giving this little 125 plenty....being a dickhead to a cheap bike doesn't payoff. result was a scratched hand and a broken neck.....hangman's fracture....usually kills.

No memory of the accident at all but when I was eventually well enough to have a look at that shit heap....the chain adjust had stripped and I think it had allowed the chain to come off.

damn you fellas have had a fair few stacks.... i think a few is knowing your limits..

touch wood. (hug a tree spec) i have been riding road bikes for 8 years and in one piece... i did lay bike down straight after my test... chasing an orange light turning right ... bit too hot... handle bars touched ground and then somehow it gripped again and she stood up... no other damage cept scratch on bar end and peg....

i wouldnt say im a cautious rider but in no way do i ever claim to be rossi or try to emulate... i just enjoy putting around.

have owned rs125, cbr600rr, gsxf750 and ridden cbr954rr/cbr1000rr... just like going for a thrash...

i use the theory slow in fast out... seems to work for me up to now :p

i have had plenty of stacks on dirt bikes on property and worst of them seems to be on my small bikes... china pitboss's and qr50/z50.... normal shit no helmet, shorts, shirt and go hard... have now bought a helmet for dirt and wear jeans atleast :p

good luck everyone

i had a big get off racing start of 09. just finished pouring 12k into the bike (suspension, motor, brakes, the lot, except graphics so it appeared stock). did practice all good, went out for the first race in 450 opens, got the holeshot and in the 5th turn i went 3rd gear inside and another guy went outside we both hit the jump at the same time but both scrubbing towards eachother. the other guy hit my front tyre sending me towards the ground at around 80km/h. landed on my head with my right elbow touching the left shoulder around the back of my neck. in the end i tore my shoulder up pretty bad broke my left ankle and had hair line fractures in l4 and l5 vertabre the bike barely got scratched and i was in a wheel chair for 3 months and of work for 2 years and 5 surgeries, but lucky for having a good job and good union i was fully paid the whole time.

now this happened to me a couple years ago i was in my hilux he was on a race prepped yfz450 (quad). edit i have coppied the following from another forum im a member on.

in brunswick (the south west 4x4 area). the guy on the quad came around a corner doing about 80kmh and hit my hilux i was doing 40kmh. needless to say i feel like crap now, he has been airlifted to royal perth hospital and is in emergency surgery on his stomach i will update when i know more but have a cupla pics of the vehicles. he had a 4 hr surgery on his abdominal ragion pretty serious aparently and was in icu aparently it was on local news so guna keep my ears open. we wernt actually on a road it was just a bush track he had 4hr surgery last night to pump him full of blood again and stop internal bleeding then another 6hr surgery the next day to fix any other problems that were cuased from the unbreakable lux. his mate rang me and said still in icu but he is coming good they are guna see if its alright to go up and see him probally satday he wants to see damage pics so he seems like hes in good spirits. on the other hand the lux is fixed and drivable new bonnet is on and i just yanked on the bullbar and its all good. his quad is a right off its a 3piece frame and all 3 pieces are stuffed all the plastics are screwed but the motor seems allright so far so we might strip it down and sell it as parts
it didnt turn out good but not bad either.
the rider was life flighted to perth and underwent a 4hr emergency surgery to stop internal bleeding (he nearly died 3 times on the 20 min flight to perth) they pumped 14litres of blood into him during the surgery considering the average male holds 9lts of blood he was bleeding extensively. the next day he went to surgery again to repair the rest of his injuries not one broken bone it was all internal. so the second surgery was about 6 to 8 hrs long. after that he went into icu for a week then major truama were he was in a induced coma and that is all i knew for 4 weeks. he got out of royal perth hospital on the 19th of june and i spoke to him on the 21st june were he told me the extent of his injuries, as you would expect they were serious, he had 8 punctures in his bowl and had ripped/torn open the 2 main arterys that run down the inside of your rib cage, he now has what the docs call a "body zipper" for a scar it runs from the bottom of his neck to the top of his old fella . he is now recovered but suffers day to day with bowel and bladder problems and other things unfortunately.

Ive got a Triumph Speed Triple 1050.. only been riding two wheels for 2 years (been on quads for 10 plus years) and dont push anything yet as im just not ready too.. yeah i open it up and can wheely 1st into 2nd but def do not ride like im Stoner haha

Being a PSB member and reading the story's on there is enough for me to just take it easy and ride within my limits, which a lot of noobs do not do.

I broke my collar bone when I fell off my pee wee when I was 4. We lived on 10 acres and dad had had a coulpe of semi trailers of blue metal delivered that day. I was at the neighbours place and left there to go home for dinner. It was pitch black but I knew the place like the back of my hand. Went for a lap and then hit the blue metal. The bike just stopped but I kept going. Landed on my head 6 metres away. I didnt know what was wrong so I took off my helmet, stood the bike up, put my gloves inside the helmet and hung it off the handlebars. Walked home, waited for dad to get off the phone and said my shoulder is a bit sore. Took one look at it and figured what had happened. I think it was a Thursday night it happened. I was back at school on Monday. Bitches love injuries....

Another time I had just finished getting my CRF450 ready for a ride the next morning and thought I would take it for a super quick spin on the block before I put it away. Sandshoes, boardies, t-shirt... I did have a helmet and gloves on though. Just on the back wheel and over she went. Should of gone and got some stitches in my knees but far too proud for that. Took soooooo long to heal up.

Then there was the roo..... Literally been riding about 30 seconds... came around this corner in 2nd. Lifted the front wheel up and saw this almighty roo. Put it down and tried to go around the back of it. Managed to get around that one but we all know what they say about roos travelling in pairs.... Hit his brother, daughter, cousin which was about half the size but still threw me off. Hurt my knee which is still stuffed but the prick just got up and hopped off.

side swiped by a taxi at 80km/h - hit my front wheel with his rear quarter = low side on bike and sliding through a set of traffic lights that went amber as I slid through.

Luckily only gravel rash to my ass from sliding down the road and a written of fireblade. Taxi realised what he had done and moved back into the right lane so at least I didn't slide into the car.

Essentially I always ride a few km's faster than traffic to avoid being in cars blind spots, but on this day I was just slowing down for the car ahead rather than threading past the taxi and surprise surprise he didn't even know I was there.

I now have 2 young children and no bikes. I will not get a road bike until they are older - not because of my level of reklessness but a huge number of drivers just don't see bikes on the road.
