MGR, big ups and thanks for creating these leagues! You obviously spend a bit of time getting them running and it is much appreciated.

You probably did an oil change, if you go to settings and then engine, drop the power down until you reach the required pp

Yep shoudl be fun as always :)
I forgot how long Daytona road course can be. You'll be lucky to do 3 flying laps in the 10min qualifying session.

Does the PP handicap get applied before or after the flying laps for qualifying?
I realize this will have no effect on me but I just want to clarify because I'm sure it will cause discussion tonight
Does the PP handicap get applied before or after the flying laps for qualifying?

Will be applied before qualifying.
Everybody starts on a level playing field for race 1. At the end of the race I'll ask the top three to adjust there PP limit and confirm when done via voice or text chat. Once those top three have confirmed the adjustment I'll load the next track.
At the end of race two I will ask all players that have finished in the top 3 for the first and/or second race to confirm PP limits again. I will be keeping track of everybody's required PP limit throughout the night.
Qualifying for race 2 and 3 is one flying lap only. You're not permitted to quit back to the pits during this flying lap and have another go. One lap only.
I've updated a couple of things in the original post:
1. There's no qualifying for the shuffle races as they're all reverse grid based on the previous race. But there will be a 3 minute practice window before the race starts so you can get a brief feel for the shuffle car you've just be given.
2. Added a network stability checklist at the bottom. Please make an effort to tick as many of those boxes as possible.

Wow, this is shit. I've been trying to get online for 35 minutes.
In 2 weeks, without me touching it or any of it's settings, my routers' network strength has gone from 92% to 41%.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? I've now tried changing the channel of the network in case someone has started a network around me that was on the same channel, still no good.
Looks like I'll be dropping this week :(

i keep forgetting about this! will get on at some point soon.
just to confirm, no performance mods at all means no gearboxes, spoilers etc etc?
i'm going boot my gt5 up at some point, bit difficult with an 8am lecture to deal with on friday though.
if you guys could post up what the best quali time was for the tracks, or even just one, so i can have a practice?
Some good racing tonight, with the closest finish ever in a championship race. I could only convert 1 of the 3 poles into a win (the guilty parties know who they are....), but I guess that's racing.....

lol Simon32 I felt sorry for you, Trial mountain was a handful at the back of the pack.
I had a great time, I apologise for a few knocks to people but lucky it was me that came off second best.
Looking forward to next week! You have done an awesome job setting this up MGR.
....but lucky it was me that came off second best. ....except race 1, lap 3, corner 1, but I guess that was so early in the game, you must have forgotten about it  Pulling the handbrake when 3 wide into the first corner is not what IMHO can be considered good racing practice.
At least I'm starting to develop a bit of a feeling for what is meant by the rule that says 'don't drive like a pingpingping', and have realised that my approach may have been a little bit too conservative up to this point. The error seems to have been in my assumption that the rule relies on common (uncommon?) sense and bears some resemblance to how one would drive on a real racetrack with real cars -> driving standard duly adjusted :p
On an aside, I think we may want to consider making the pp penalties a bit higher to jumble things up a bit more - in all three races, the top three or four guys were still miles ahead of everyone else

I used to rage a bit over driving standards but I'm getting used to it now! Try to think of it more or touring cars rather than F1 :)

Apologies for that, my first time trying to race properly online and I got too excited. How do you know I pulled handbrake if we were 3 wide? I thought I lost the arse end under heavy brakes .. I still didn't think it effected your placing however. Everyone was rubbing and racing, it's bound to happen unless your lucky enough to have 100% zero lag and a few screens covering all your blind spots.

Epic finish between myself, MGR and 4POT on Grand Valley – .005 of a second separating the top 3. If anyone saved the replay I suggest you watch it! (MGR... video capture?)
Funnily enough if you pause it at the finish line you can see that my car is in first with MGR second; yet the results show I was second. I assume that is something to do with the networking and when/how the data is recorded and sync'd amongst the participants.
And it looks like I'll be dropping this Shuffle round: big network issues (first timer ever, mind) saw me being disconnected mid-race and throughout the night having some issues during the other races. I'll hopefully sort it for next week.
PS: Brockas pulling a Steven Bradbury on Daytona.... how ironic after I was the one that took him out so brilliantly at the start of the race! Curse you!

So true. I literally drove off the road 3 times in the GT500 cars before I readjusted to it not being as reactive to steering inputs as the karts!
Good racing, I enjoyed the Civics, the shuffles not so much until I got an Evo :P
Got bashed around the start of the first Civic race, dropped right down, then came back wasn't losing much time to the leaders, not a massive fan of that track..
Grand Valley I missed the start and lost a few seconds with a poorly timed loo break, was catching the top 3, although probably not enough to challenge the lead, before some mistakes on the last lap, kept the spot somehow though, just placed the car right so Sciflyer couldn't get past...I would have gone to the grass if I were him tho.., good race
Cape ring was pretty good, again was catching right up to the two leaders then some dumb mistakes on the last/2nd last lap.
Good times.
How do you know I pulled handbrake if we were 3 wide? Are you claiming that you didn't?
Ah pissballs i robbed myself of a point by doing heli's
Just to confirm, a DNF when there are 10 or less starters means you will still not score points? As that is different to the last season
Yeah fair call. I actually wanted to make it a DNF last season but I buggered up the time delay at the end of the race once or twice (leaving at only 30 or 40 seconds) so a few didn't manage to finish the lap. I've re-classified you as a finisher but have now added a specific 2min rule to the rules section.
Fak, and I thought I raged!
Must be a 33 GT-R driver attribute.
Well articulated rage.

Yeah, I think the final positions are based on each individuals game clock. That's why you occasionally get positions swapped on the leader board a split second after they appear, as the game adjusts to the actual race time clocked by the other players as opposed to the estimate based on vehicle positional data during the race.

Haha :D I must watch that replay from Brockas perspective.

Fuck mate get over it, just a game. I can't remember what I did... all I know is that I came into corner too hot and was trying everything to slow up. I've already apologised, I found my limits and it never happened again. I could jump on here and have a cry about all the other stuff that happened that night to me but that's what happens when you race online and I'm not really fussed as I was having fun.
Just updated the OP and set the handicap index to 5 this week (up from 3 last week). Should make a more noticeable dent to the performance of the top 3 finishers for the subsequent races.

No tuning required what-so-ever.
If you mod it at all, you have to remove those parts, it's not just based on PP.

So I have a completely dead stock rx7, changed the wheels and put a front lip on. I also changed the brake balance. I selected in my room setup tuning: prohibited. Now it spits back saying I cant join the track because of tuning. I have removed brake balance, put the normal lip back on, nothing else changed... Still says cannot join because I have tuned something!? It has an oil hange and I detuned it...

The only limitation is the max number of people who can join a server which is 16 isnt it? but connection stability and general network issues start cropping up when you have more than about 12-13 it seems
Lobby and race is limited to 16 players and if everybody applies the measures below there should be next-to-no connection problems.

Been a while since I've turned the PS3 on. Picked up a G27 last week, looking at seats/stands now. Considering a Playseat. Those with one, recommend it? Would like a comfortable setup for GT5.

Definitely recommend a PlaySeat.
Also have Dirt 3; bought it back when MGR was first considering having AL nights of it, and I still haven't even opened the case haha.
Been a while since I've turned the PS3 on. Picked up a G27 last week, looking at seats/stands now. Considering a Playseat. Those with one, recommend it? Would like a comfortable setup for GT5.
I've had my Playseat for +- 18 months now (~80k Gran Turismo kilometers)
Pro's:
- Adjustability is good (sliding seat costs extra)
- Relatively comfortable, except on really long (4hr+) stints
- Backreast can fold down for easier storage
- It's not broken yet, and I'm a big boy - some major strain through the chassis when I'm in trouble on the track
Con's:
-The Playseat has a bar (steering support) in the middle so your legs go either side. You have to choose left foot or right foot braking and stick with it. No pedal dancing 'cos of the pipe between your legs (no, not that pipe, the Playseat one).
-The way it fits together is not very rigid. Mine squeaks and creaks the whole time
- As standard, the angle of the pedalbox is very upright - I'm used to it by now
- Gearlever location sucks, you need gorilla arms (and it costs extra)
Overall happy, it is relatively good value for money. If I were looking to buy a seat/stand again, I would investigate one with the steering supports going round the outside to allow for some ninja disco pedal dancing. What I would really do is build my own using a nice comfy real car seat and rails (from an old Merc, or something). A mate has done this and it is the most comfortable seat I've ever sat in...

GT5 INFORMATION
Update Notice (2.06)
Last Updated: May 22, 2012
A new update has been released for Gran Turismo 5.
The main contents of the update are as follows:
- It is now possible to adjust the race BGM and sound effect volume from "Quick Options" during a race.
- A save data backup feature has been added.
- Compatibility for the sequential shift mode of the Guillemot "TH8 RS" gear shifter has been added.
- A "Performance Difference Adjustment" has been added to the rewards for seasonal events. (Applies only to seasonal events held after this update)
- Force feedback for the "Driving Force™GT", "GT FORCE®Pro", "G25 Racing Wheel", " G27 Racing Wheel", and " T500 RS" steering wheel controllers have been improved.
- The categorisation of a car after racing modifications are performed will now change from that of tuned car to racing car.
- The off-track shortcut penalty has been revised.
- A new GT5 Photo Stream service has been started on gran-turismo.com. Photographs taken in photo mode and set to "Share" will now appear in a list on a webpage viewable by all visitors.
[Correction of Known Issues]
- Corrected a problem where Karts and Ferrari F1 cars could drive together with other cars in the lounge
- Corrected a rarely occurring issue in which the system freezes when exiting the lounge
- Corrected a problem where you could purchase the tyres of the 125 SPL racing Kart in the tuning parts shop(Tyres purchased previously will now become invalid)
- Corrected a problem in which the straight-line stability of the Lancer Evolution X was decreased when using a steering wheel controller
- Corrected an issue where wrong colour dirt and snow tyre wheels were displayed on some cars when the wheels were changed
- Corrected an issue where starts in electric cars are delayed when accelerator operation is performed with controllers other than a steering wheel controller pedal
- Corrected a rarely occurring issue where the system would freeze at the end of a race
- Corrected an issue where it becomes difficult to hear your own car when driving with other racecars in online races, etc.
The backup data save is a nice feature. I believe it works by basically creating a second game save file, so if your original gets corrupted then you haven't lost 18 months worth of car collection and games unlocks.
Half a gigabyte is a fairly sizeable update though. No doubt includes the Twin Ring Motegi Circuit data which I assume will become unlocked after (or during) the current GT Academy competition.

Farking update
Got the Playseat today, just finished putting the thing together, getting everything set up, go to fire up GT5 and have to wait 40 minutes for the update! Grrrrr
- Corrected an issue where it becomes difficult to hear your own car when driving with other racecars in online races, etc.
I like this one, other car's are usually louder than your own, particularly with stock (ie:quiet) cars, so you have to look at the rpm a bit more closely so hopefully this is much better.

HAHAHAHAHAHA Sooo good.
Honestly haven't laughed that hard at a single race since we started playing this.
Especially that point where I got punted off on the left hander, then when I came back on the track MGR immediately put me back in the dirt.
I got back on the track again, and Phil immediately punted me straight back into the sand trap.
That genuinely had me in stitches.
lolz
I was pissed I got d/c just before the deep forest race, was on for a good overall result before that, good car.

Cheers for the comprehensive info.
Ended up picking up a Playseat GT on Sat after doing some research and having a sit in one, so I'll be joining you boys again.
The G27 is going to take some getting used to, currently lapping a bit slower than I was with the controller but starting to adapt.
I realise this week is the final round of this series but am I good to join in? Understandable if it's for existing entrants only. I'll start when the next series begins.
Absolute gold.

Pffft! The only thing I did wrong in that video was miss punting the shit out of you into the last chicane at Suzuka!
Actually, my block move looked a lot more aggressive in the replay than how I remembered it. No wonder you were pissed! :D Unfortunately it didn't have much effect as you cruised past later on anyway. Gutless P.O.S. GT-R. At least it wasn't an R33 I guess...

We've been averaging about 12ish cars and the room supports 16 so there always room for a few more.
Ran a couple of laps in the Amuse S2000 last night.
Handy tip: Reduce brake setting on the rear from 5 down to 3
I don't normally ever mess with the bias but this car just wants to go backwards when you turn in under braking. You can probably run more front bias than F5 / R3 to make it more stable but I found it starts to negatively impact the balance and turn-in grip.
I'm finding it pretty hard to drive this amuse S2000... Struggletown!

Yeh on sports soft it's not a particularly easy car to drive.
I find I have to be very smooth with it otherwise it's all over the place and slow.

Will be joining shortly and do my best not to punt anyone. Still getting used to the new G27 setup over the controller.

Ok who broke the internets
Shuffle Championship final point scores updated. 5 different winners from 6 rounds. GT5 Reverse Grid Shuffle Racing: More predictable than F1.
Will updated the one-make points as soon as Brockas sends me the Madrid replay.
I'm away this Thursday (7th June) so I won't be hosting GT5 till next week. Planning a Dirt 3 night this Sunday though.

Mark do you mind updating the final scores or do you not have that replay from Brockas?
Thanks again for going to the effort with these series. They're fun and keep the practice up.

OK, so I've updated the final points based on only having the first two races from round 6 available. Doesn't look like the top three are effected but Brockas and Sciflyer are close so I'll get a copy of the replay Brockas him when he gets back from Europe.
Final top 3 were:
1st - MGR
2nd - ALEX.
3rd - ED40
I was going to start the next series this Thursday but I'm behind the 8-ball so I'm running another Dirt 3 night on the 21st instead. New series will have a slightly different format but will still use one-make unmodified cars.

dam you. only home this week, then out next.
just setup my g27 tonight what settings do you recommend?
Can I get a show of hands from those who plan to compete in the next Antilag GT5 series AND either of the following No Limits nights?
19th July - No Limit Events Sprint - Barbagallo Raceway, Wanneroo
23rd August - No Limit Events Sprint - Barbagallo Raceway, Wanneroo
SimonR32
25-06-2012, 10:28 AM
I'll be away for the 19th of July (maybe I can take the PS3 to Thailand.... hmmmm) and I probably will go to No Limits on the 23rd of August.
In summary, out for both
I've decided to skip to 19th so the dates for Series 3 will be:
Round 1 - 28th June
Round 2 - 5th July
Round 3 - 12th July
Break - 19th July
Round 4 - 26th July
Round 5 - 2nd August
Round 6 - 9th August
For this Thursday you'll need a Honda INTEGRA TYPE R ’04 and practice on the following tracks:
* Deep Forest Raceway / Reverse
* Autumn Ring
* Cape Ring Inside
I'll post a new thread later tonight with all the details. There are some revisions to the format - mostly involving the level and depth of the handicapping system.
Ill stick my head in for most of those.
ALEX.

I won't be doing the No Limits night on July 19th – Rallysprint is a few days after it and I'd rather not risk a clutch :P
Should I put the feelers out on P-WRX/Facebook for a couple more to join us? I can let people know that it's good if they want to come in for the series rather than just one night… that way we should avoid anyone who isn't going to take it half seriously.
Personally I'd like to find a couple more regulars as we're sloooowly dropping people.
