I've been to each of these as they come up over the years and the first one I remember they were flying Macchis and Mirages Lol
It was pretty awesome to see the B-1 at the last one as well as the Perth flyover a couple of days earlier - an awe inspiring bit of kit.

Always a great day out and will be there again for sure.

I'm sure Fetish is mad keen on the idea of a squadron of weekend warriors arriving (slowly and in a disorderly fashion) at his airfield. If all goes to plan I promise to use my best China Southern spec incomprehensible chinglish at all times over the radio and fly wild and unpredictable circuits generally making a nuisance of my slow arsed self before making a rubbish landing somewhere way, way past the piano keys and maybe take out a runway light or two. :p

Im actually involved with coordinating all the 'fly in' aircraft coming from Perth, Jandakot and where else they choose to fly from for this. If you plan on flying in drop me a PM with the ACFT registration for some VIP treatment ;)

If youre driving up have fun. I heard numbers like 50,000 spectators each day being thrown around. They have been building new access roads into the base to cater for the traffic but expect it to take 2+ hours each way.

I stayed on base for the whole weekend including the preliminary set-up etc in 2005. I can tell you this will be AWESOME even if there's no F-111's this time around :(

That was great, formations are insane and the Roulette team were fantastic to watch.
We left just after the B52 did it's flybys, but saw the 18 plane formation on the way out. I took some photos but just with my iPhone - can't wait to see some pro shots!

Best bit was smashing past all the traffic on the bikes on the way in :P

I saw the B52 fly over from my place in Aveley. The smoke plume from the engines was cool. It makes you realise piston engines are fuckall compared to something that runs on Jet A1.

awesome weekend. so good see so many aircraft on display, both static and in the air. makes me want to get back into flying. despite having one of the best vantage points on the entire base I didnt actually end up watching much of the display. Fairly intense work coordinating everything and keeping it all moving both on the ground and in the air. great experience though.

Got a few photos of the ALM VIPs arriving in their private planes ;) and I also tried to do some time lapse video over a 6 hour period filming from total darkness to around midday. Hopefully it turns out. Will get onto editing it later, my days have started at 4:30am. Keen to see some photos from all the pro photographers out there with their 300+ mm lenses!

lol news was talkin it up about what a shambles the traffic was and a few ppl on FB been complaining. I reckon organisers couldnt of done a better job with traffic control. Most events (plex, barbagello etc) once you are out the gate you fend for yourself. At Pierce they had traffic controllers on GN Hwy stopping the flow of traffic to allow people to turn on from the base exits, i'm willing to bet it would of been a fuck load worse had these measures not been in place. Infastructure was the limiting factor.

Biggest shit fuck pingpingpingping dick lips of an event I've ever attended. 1.5 hours to travel 10km, then when we left we could only turn left onto Great northen HWY instead of turning right and heading back to Perth.
Not only that, at 2:45 the ticket place shut up shop and people were getting in for free just after I forked out $50, shit was a fucken joke. Stupid fucking red bull music van playing fucked up garden music or what ever the fuck the pill popping generation calls it. Couldn't hear shit over the PA system about the B52 at the time it passed, bailed early to try beat the traffic, didn't go to plan. Shit was fucked, never been so angry with the lack of intelligent drivers let alone nice ones letting people in, I will never go to another Perth air show again, they can shove the idea right up thier arses. pingpingpingpingS
But i did get to see the B-52 and a Super Hornett up close, so not all was lost.

Had a great day and felt a little sorry for those stuck in traffic, looked an absolute nightmare! On the way up from wheels up to wheels down was 5mins and our friendly neighbourhood pilot on the way home gave us a bit of a tour over the Northern suburbs. Even though we didn't have to endure the traffic it was still a bit of an exhausting day and I think I'll be sleeping well tonight.

Thanks Guys, mostly pleased with the results but what you don't see is the shots that have just a nosecone, empty sky, grey blurs or back quarter of a plane that just flew out of shot Lol.

Not really an issue, I was using AI Servo on my 30D which keeps focus on a moving target, very hand for keeping things in focus as they approach and can then adjust the zoom to suit and the camera then auto adjusts the focus to suit. Still a bit hit and miss but mostly hit thankfully!

Nice shots Paul! Shadows where bad however stupid me left my Polarising filter on so a few shots turned out with just silhouettes. Will try and PP to save a couple. 70-200 also didn't quite cut it for most of the air show. However I have quite a few keepers once sorted to post.

From your photo angles it looks like you were standing next to me, oh that's right..... Lol! You achieved much better exposure on the B-52 and other airborne shots than me, the somewhat limited dynamic range of the 30D is my only complaint with the cam combined with my limited ability, it just can't deal with the high contrast shots - especially when compared (or contrasted!) with the Hasselblad further up the page!

Great photos all round guys!
Had a blast sunday, sounds were = the nicest of gate /automotive noise,
Had no real issues with traffic leaving at the very end, although we went through toodjay for a bit of a sceneic drive home rather than sit with the masses hahah.

Was Mind fucked/blown away by the f-18 s/h doing that low speed, nose up scooting/flying.
Was mad that the pilot could do that yet not even have the ground in physical sight.
Mind was blown by b52's size and payload carrying abilities... felt quite small afterwards.

Talking to one of the head engineer dudes, he said that there was no mach runs because of what it cost last time when windows were broken, cats went missing, babies and live stock distressed and car alarms going off hahaha.
Was keen for sound barrier action!

Will gladly wait 7+ years for another.
