They seem to opt for houses where the owners actually are home so that they can get them to tell them where the keys are if they can´t find them.
They know they have a 10min window of opportunity before Police will arrive, given that they actually make the call before they get inside the house to start of with.

They jimmied open the back door (locksmith confirmed as he's here atm next to me changing the locks) took my phone from my computer desk which is next to the backdoor (was charging) wallet also on desk. Then went to loungeroom, took the laptop and both sets of keys which were on the table in loungeroom. Took partners bag from inside the front door and left through the back again.

Liberty is just an 02 RX, Falcon a BF Turbo.

Both cars have car seats in them, one also has our pram. (Just bought that badass car seat not so long ago Tom :[ )

We've got a few IR buzzers that do go on at night. And the dogs barking is well enough to wake you up, and either get the flood lights on, or pick up a big stick.
If someone was to be in my house with a machete or some sort of similar dangerous weapon in hand, then yes I would seriously consider arming myself. Even the bow being pulled at you would be enough to make poo happen.

Yeh I also agree about the dogs thing. I have a 1yr old male staffy x bullmastiff with a big tough studded collar (named him rambo and everything) and hes a total pussy. Scared of the rocker chair, anything youre carrying etc and never barks. My cousin rocked up at night a couple of weeks ago and he got pretty agro and started barking at the door with his hackles up it'd be enough as an initial deterrent and I reckon he'd fight if someone busted in.

When I was still at home a couple of years ago someone broke in to my parents house in swanny. 1am, my brother and his mate studying with lights and tv on and they still picked up a wrought iron chair on the deck and smashed their way through the front door. This is about 10 years ago, but I was at home watching TV when I heard an unusual noise out the front and went out to check on it. Alas, 4 of these Heirisson Island dwellers were getting into my car and when challenged, pulled out a screwdriver and egged me on to have a go and 2 then jumped out of the car again. I raced back in and went to lock the door (could only be keylocked) and only then realised that they had been in the house - only 5m from where I was sitting and took the keys, wallet, a watch I had bought 2hrs previously and a bottle of bourbon, all sitting together on the kitchen bench.
The car was recovered 3 days later with the windows down (in Winter), at the beach with 9 syringes and shitloads of empty bottles in the footwells - assholes!!

That will be written off.

Two doors to repair, new bonnet, new bumper, new lower grill insert, new fog lights, new headlights, possible straighten bent supports behind everything, then paint everything to match. Then they've got what looks like 2 rims to replace, tyres to replace, and whatever else is mechanically fucked and anything broken in the interior. I've seen cars with less physical damage and no mechanical work get written off by an assessor who only spent 30 secs going over the car.

Find out where the car is being assessed (will be at a panel beater or mechanic) and go over it yourself, and outline EVERYTHING that is damaged.

At the end of the day, if insurance KNOW the car has been THRASHED to within an inch of its life, the last thing they want is to have a car they've got insured on their books with the potential to continually break down and require repairs that were potentially caused by the theft and consequent thrashing.

Don't be so surprised, it all comes down to the assessor and whether or not you are willing to accept what they tell you or if you dictate the terms to them.

If they believe they can get away with it, they will, but sometimes it is easier for them to cut their losses and pay you out.

My old Calais was insured for $14k, had $6k worth of damage to it after being rear-ended. According to the assessor who happened to turn up while I was collecting some gear out of it, there was the distinct possibility I was not going to get the car back. I was later told that had there been any extra damage, it would have been written off.

Liberty found yesterday morning, and being towed to mine today.

Not sure the condition besides what the cop and tow truck guys have told me which is just that the interior has been wrecked while trying to get my CD player out, and the spoiler has been ripped off.

Was found in Koondoola, after I emailed the police to inform them that my neighbour had seen what he thought was my car several times last week in karrinyup, and that I had recieved 2 speeding tickets from the fixed camera at Karrinyup Rd on the Freeway.

No insurance on the Liberty, but it's not a write off, mostly just cosmetic things inside the car to be fixed, and a couple of easy panel beater jobs. I have taken photos:

Things to note in the pics I took of the air intake. I circled and drew some things on there. The down arrow is where that random pipe was sitting, the left arrow is where they put the intake with a speaker mesh over the end to filter the air somewhat, and the circle is where it attached to the airbox. The McDonalds cup is just a load of wtf.

They sealed my airbox shut with something, not sure what it is but it's solid.
Removed my rear speakers and double din deck, along with the ignition barrell (they had the keys so wtf? probably dumped it somewhere, someone saw it and said score and took it) also removed all the trim in the front of the car.
Unplugged my brake lights and electric mirrors..
Not sure what was at the front, but I think it was the air conditioning? In the pics you'll see some unconnected cables and a big gap infront of radiator. That where the air con was?
Broke drivers door mirror and took battery from engine so cant wind up windows or anything.
There was a random broken fan in the boot along with some rubber lining from another boot.

Rest of the pics are just the damage that was done to the body of the car and the spoiler holes from where they removed it.
