Spacing would be one issue if you are high mounting, as that faces the engine side. If low mounting that wouldnt be an issue.
I have seen them around, but never seen anyone use them.
Go ahead and try it and report results haha.

I want to go down a similar route with the MPS eventually, seems like a good idea

Shannon looked at doing that to his current turbo instead of just getting a proper manifold and welding the internal gate shut and it worked out a much better result doing the manifold swap.
As far as I remember it was about 1k for the steam pipe manifold from Powertune.
Check his build thread here:

well I went from 290rwhp to 367 hubber hp from essentially changing manifold and welding up the gate
motor was rebuilt but with essentially stock parts apart from pistons and rods
a little bit more boost but same turbo, same injectors intercooler, etc etc
that said if you can get it to work I'm keen to see the results!
also you may find this part helpful to squeeze the gate in there http://www.himni-racing.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=26_40&products_id=1982

That's how my external wastegate and screamer pipe is setup, its been welded onto the exhaust housing. Works great :)
The internal wastegate is then welded shut.

High po work shops in America have been doing this for a fair while, yes space can be An issue but from what I have read, putting the waste gate on the exhaust housing gives you better boost control and stability across the rev range and and psi

What's your mine boost pressure Mike? any issues with boost creep, I know of a couple of cars with the same install as yours that have issues due to the 90deg turn into the gate. Neither where externally gated tho. I will be doing the same but with a 45deg transition into the gate with a 50mm gate but plumbed back so hopefully I don't I run into the same issue.

Luke it sits at 14-15 psi no problems, doesn't boost creep at all. Its not really a 90 degree turn into the gate, when i had it off the car you could look into the turbo where the flange is and you could see through into the gate pretty well
