SPORTS COMPACT 2004!

The Sports Compact 2004 will be held on Saturday March 13.
The new Sports Compact themed events are aimed squarely at late model vehicles powered by the ever potent 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder and Rotary combinations.
There have been several changes for this event after recommendations from competitors and spectators alike.
These include the pricing structure and the length of the the event.
The pricing structure for competitors has been simplified.
For those interested in just Showing off their vehicle, entering in the Dyno comp and/or being in the Sound Off the cost is only $25.
For those who wish to do all of the above and also participate in one or all of the following activities - the Super Cruise, Drag Race, Driving events (go - whoa and slalom) or the Burnout competition the cost is only $45. (the extra $20 is for an ANDRA day license - $5 and for insurance - $14.40)
And yes the track will be fully prepared.
The event will feature a variety of activities to showcase all the features of the late model market including:
Show n Shine
Dyno shootout (2 and 4wd)
Sound Off
Super Cruise
Driving events (Slalom and Go - Whoa)
Glow Off
Burn Out
Drag Racing* (elimination and Time Trials for best ET awards)
* The track will be fully race prepared!
The event starts at 1pm with the traders and competitors gate opening and spectators admission will be from 2:30pm.

SAUWA i dont think has enough cars "intact" or members with enough time to put in club entry ..... unless paul decides its worth it. Im happy to fly under the antilag banner for this one ..... cars not a show pony and the driver is a fairly inexperienced dragger ..... so i'll just be the runt of the club :p

With the number of events on before and after this event it makes it very difficult to put much concerted effort into putting in a club display, but if anyone from either Anti-lag or SAU want's to enter there cars then I'm more than happy to help in organising things to help out.

It is important that everyone that is down for Display and Dyno gets there at 1pm.

I was not able to secure Dyno spots. It is limited to around 16 - 20 cars. Its first come first serve.

SO DYNO PEOPLE GET THERE AT 1pm and go STRAGIHT TO DYNO and get your name down !!!!!

But congrats to the Anti-lag guys that put in a very good showing considering the lack of support from the organisers. Well done.

Very dissapointing. Whoever the organising crew is should be shot. Definitely need a change of event organisation staff. The antilag boys made the best of a bad situation though and the ca powered gem was a classic. Still stumps me as to why the people don't come down and support it - everyone and their dog seems keen to go down and have a crack on a wednesday night but all opt out on the organised weekend events... weird.

No improvement from the last one, except they started later and made it cheaper. Still no real advertising.

Drag Combat will be heaps different, as they have already started handing out flyers, and most Import workshops have posters and entry forms. It will be up to CABIN to show the Motorplex tools how to run a proper event.

(almost)Every jap car owner who has raced at the plex recently would have received a mail out and people have been talking about this event for ages on forums.

Yes, some aspects of the organising seemed a bit poor but the worst thing was the lack of entrants to an event that gave 6 months notice.

Think from the officials perspective.... they spend their weekend working for a piss poor turnout (even the food vendors told me that they shouldn't have bothered turning up) now would you want to put in 110%??

No way - you would just do the bare minimum and hope that the event finishes early so you can go home.

As for extra drags after the burnouts... I understand that was the plan but there were only 2 cars in the staging lane wanting to race... hardly worth keeping the lights on for that.

Don't point fingers at the Mplex people..... they provided the event and we (the Jap car scene) kicked them in the guts not once but twice.

Don't expect to see another event for our scene in a hurry.

Yes it is a poorly run day, as said with the turnout what do you expect. It is also a new event and will take time to get right.

I think the problem with the event was the last one, the last sports compact was at the start of the drag season so thats why, i think, not many cars made it, and it was a poor turn out. then everyone just assumed that this one will be the same, so they put on effort into it so it is.

if you guys remember the drag combact events that they held at the plex, these this were extremely good, always attracted a big crowd and competors, we even had 2 big guns from over east come once, sigorelli n regoli, these events we very good, and i think the plex should go bak to running them.

Also these drag combat were never advertised and the drew a huge amount of ppl, racing and watching, so i dont think advertising is to blame, its just the ppl in the scene.

Do you think the name "Sports Compact" has anything to do with it? The old "4,6, Rotary Drag Wars" pulled heaps more cars.

I understand from the plex people that the current format and name was suggested by a certain local Photo Journalist.... maybe they need to speak to people who are actually IN the scene and not just a hanger on.

Maybe reps from all the major clubs/groups should get together with the plex people and work out what sort of event we really want and how it should be run.... and if the Mplex people are happy to commit to the changes then our clubs/groups should commit to supporting the event.

Bobbo, I agree. And the first Sports Compact was a flop due to the Motorplex not getting fully behind it, there own words, and they did nothing to help turn it around for this lastest event. I wish it was successful, but I still feel they only have themselves to blame.
