Hey fellas,
Blew my diff(LSD) in esperance in cape le grand on the weekend. No reception or anyone to help. Tailshaft also decided to unscrew from diff and fall off.
So i ended up taking out the entire tailshaft and axles and locking the front hubs driving it back to our apartment and leaving the next day back to perth. It made it lol!
So now its in the mechanics getting assessed on what else needs to be changed.
What diff locker should i get? electronic, air, auto?
i suspect that my front diff is on the way out too.
Currently has monroe shocks on it and they are way stiff. Was thinking of getting some ironman foam cell shocks with a 50mm lift too? any experiences
with these anyone?
dont wanna be spending massive amounts of cash on the gear as the car only cost me 9k, just gonna be my bushbasher for the next 2 years.
Car will probably be mostly on road with sat and sunday offroad in port, karratha and carnavon.
dont know shit about diesel/4wd but learning and any advice is appreciated.

4' lift
adj panhards
king springs
tough dog foam cell adjustable shocks
if car is automatic, auto locker will be fine, locrite etc
if manual stick to air locker type.
id also recommend running decent cv joints in the front if you plan on running big rubber with a locker.
check out yuri 4x4 for cv joints, i had them in my 60 series and shorty patrol/maverick with no issues.
shorty was running 37's on beadlock rims rock hopper gears etc. never broke one yuri cv.

replace the front with an air locker and get a new LSD or detroit style for the rear.
could be bad advice but I would of definatly gone this way if I had the option of part time 4wd

in my past experience lsd's are useless, especially toyota ones.
i ditched mine for a locker.

No CV's... Ahhh say what? you on crack fool!
Skip ironman, they are shit
TD are also a bit firm, unless you get adjustable
EFS Extreme are very firm
Get an air locker in the rear, or an e-locker but they cost $$$
Auto Locker in the front is good with part-time, otherwise get same as rear choice
Doing the above, you've probably just spent 3/4 of what the car cost you...

pretty sure they came out with hilux sized twigs instead of cv's

Lol they have CV's mate, locker wise 4WD systems over east do a good Lokka which is an auto locker. Also think about getting the part time conversion kit :). Springs and shocks probably just stick to 3" King springs and some tough dog or Koni shocks all round

They are weak, if your a numpty, exactly like the Patrol/Rover/Jeep, err make that all stock 4bys drivelines.
On that note, much rather a smashed CV over a toothless crown wheel...

most of the options listed above are pretty pricey, if your only going to own it for 2 years, go with what's in the budget
if it's still full time 4wd avoid an auto lokka, no choice but a switchable one, air or electronic.
can the lsd's in those be shimmed up like the nissans?
if possible that would be a cheaper option too, or you could just sell it and get a gq with it's stronger drivetrain, excellent lsd and the option of a 500 dollar front lokka.
paid 3k for mine and i've actually tried to break it but not managed it yet, the old girl is due for new drivetrain fluids though.
Can I just say, dont be put off if auto locker comes up at the right price. They really arnt (or shouldnt be) that bad. My car weighs all of fuck all and I cant feel it engage or dissengage going round corners and its straight out of one of the old 80's rally cars

check out Suspensionstuff.com i got a 3" lift for my GQ from them for $1300. Had the choice of their own shocks or Procomps. The coils are progressive design so give a decent ride but can still flex and extend great.
They market them as having a 3" lift with 6' lift suspension travel.
pretty sure they came out with hilux sized twigs instead of cv's
Solid axle hilux axles and cvs are interchangeable with 60 series axles. Not really twigs.
Part time hubs in the front with either an auto locker or elocker (better than air) and an auto or e locker rear as well
X2 for above Suspension stuff are sweet 3" flexies with longer shocks and you will have a weapon

Cheers guys!
will looking into suspensionstuff.com.au
Anyone know where to get koni's online?
Lokka seems okay for my needs and doesnt cost much either. not gonna be doing extreme 4wding so cant really justify the cost of air/e-lockers.
PS. car is manual, part time 4wd.

Ordered a Lokka from 4wdsystems on the 22nd march, got told it should be out by Easter. Rang my mechanic early last week and he told me he hadn't received the lokka yet, so i rang 4wdsystems again shortly after my call and they said its already sent out and should arrive the monday just passed.
Rang my mechanic to confirm, but still no sign of it. Rang yesterday, and they said they'll call me back, no call. Rang this morning and again told me that they would call me back, they did for once! My lokka was not sent out as previously told twice. They now have told me the lokka is still getting manufactured and they wont receive them till 23-24th May.
My car has been sitting at my mechanics for over 2 months now and I'm heading back to perth to on the 18th of May for 2 weeks before heading back north on the 4th June.
I need to source a rear locker suited to an 80 series with LSD diff between that time so that i can organise freight of my car up north.
I have rung WA Diff centre and they only have a detroit locker available on 3-4days lead time @ $1600. $1400 on eBay. Didnt plan to spend that much on a locker since i will only have the car for another year or so.
Is there any other businesses in perth that have any other lockers that i could source quickly? Its' been a a stuff around to say the least and my mechanic is getting a bit peeved cause its taking up space in the workshop.
I shouldnt even be thinking of putting in an 2nd hand LSD right? or will i need to bite the bullet and just wait it out...?
Sorry for my life story :(
any help will be appreciated!
