My friend attended last years event and raved about it so myself and 4 others are heading over to experience what I hope will be 3 days of unforgettable motorsport.
It's predominantly unrestricted access all areas so you can get up close and personal with cars, drivers, owners and mechanics.

A few highlights for this years event are-

550+ cars competing

A record grid of up to 38 high-powered open-wheeler racing cars

Several special cars flown in from the Porsche Museum in Germany

Around 500 special vehicles from 43 clubs will be on display

35 Formula 5000 V8-engined racers from the 1970s

1950's F1 Ferrari Tipo 500

Several former Formula 1 cars from the 1980s

Large field of former Group C (1973-1984) and Group A (1985-1992)cars.

40 Torana XU-1s celebrating Peter Brock’s historic first Bathurst victory 40 years ago

Well I'm back from what was 3 days of motorsport overload.
This was my first visit to the Phillip Island track and what a track it is. You can drive around the full perimeter of the track which reveals how technical, expansive and picturesque it actually is.
For spectating you can set up anywhere around the outside of the track or view from the pit garage roof tops on the infield.
Access to the pits is totally unrestricted, you can spend hours getting up close to the cars and marveling at some of the engineering and history on display.
The drivers, owners and mechanics are happy to have a word or two if not to busy, even had a mechanic tell his other mechanic to stop working on their F5000 so we could get in a good picture.
With 500+ cars competing the racing is no stop all day. The only break between races is when the pace car comes out to check the track is clear.
There was also 500+ cars on display by a variety of car clubs on the outer and in the pavilion.
I would defiantly recommend the event, especially to those who like their motorsport old school, classic or historic.

That Starion kicked ass, was 6th/7th fastest car out there. Sounded like a old biplane but went like a scalded cat.

Got a look under the bonnet and was surprised to see that a fairly stock looking 2.0L SOHC Turbo Sirius engine was pumping out all that power.

Next pics up are the Formula 5000 racers.

These were one of the highlights of the weekend and can only be described as fast, loud, obnoxious beasts.

The sound of 30 F5000's on full song down the main straight was a ground shaking experience.
