Hey Guys
Know there's a few guys looking to get offshore/FIFO positions.
We've got a bucketload of work coming up and are desperate for people, so it's a perfect time to get a foot into the industry.
Currently looking to fill nine of these positions:
http://www.seek.com.au/Job/field-technician-i-trs/in/perth-perth/21654555
Would suit more favourably, people currently working in a mechanical type industry, but not essential, and don't pay too much attention to the pre-requisites.
Hit me up if you want any pointers to fine tune your application.
Cheers

I've just finished my Apprenticeship as a Heavy Duty Plant mechanic, I work mainly on Drill rigs with heaps of Hydraulic experience, just waiting for all the paperwork to be signed off on, but can get Tafe to confirm I have passed n shit. Is it worth me throwing my application in?

work coming up is North west and PNG.
PNG comes with extra daily bonus.

good money can be made on drills. im still getting half a dozen emails a week for people chasing drill fitters despite deciding to stick with underground stuff 2 years ago

send your shit in..
only down side to this compnay/work... you will be on call 24/7 and normally get a call 4-5pm in arvo and fly out the next day... no roster and no set time away or no set time off so must be flexible and not have many commitments..
pay is about 2800 a month b4tax for entry and then a daily rate of about 250 b4 tax and average 14days offshore...
good money for entry but be aware you will have no "life" and you will learn to make use of your time at home..
good "stepping stone"

This is what annoys me about offshore..
Last time I was trying to get into the industry.. Got a few offers of 2 weeks here 6 weeks there.. But no commitment.. Very hard to give up a good paying job in Perth where you are home every night on a chance you might advance and do well.

Is that $2800 per month regardless off days worked + $250 per day worked Tristan?

Fozzy, i liken offshore to a rollercoaster, it has it's ups and downs.
unfortunately due to the weak US dollar the big companies have cut back a bit on their exploration work. etc

Is that $2800 per month regardless of days worked + $250 per day worked Tristan?
What he said.
Will time offshore be similiar to 3/1, 4/1 or longer?
So say if its simliar to 3/1 21 days a cycle working, 13 cycles a year, would it be (21*13*250) + (12*2800) = ~$102k a year before tax?
Have experience underground as jumbo offsider so familiar with hydraulics and mechanically minded. Have good references, if you want to know how hard I work, will give you the contact numbers of my jumbo operators + shift boss + foreman. Will I have a chance with good references?

Sorry for the delay in replies - Tristan and I are both out in the field at the moment.
In the two and a bit years I've been doing this job, I've averaged 16.6 days offshore per month. Some months you might do the full four weeks.
Some jobs you might get sent out, immediately into the job, finish and get sent straight home (pain in the ass). Others, you might be sitting around on the rig for a week or more waiting until they're ready for you, so if you've got a busy home life, you're going to get frustrated pretty quickly, not knowing when you're going to be back.
The money is OK but certainly not awesome when compared to the starting wage of the rig worker, however they work 12 hours a day the entire time they're out here, so it evens out. The pay cycle is monthly, so if you're a sucker for overnight parts from Japan, you might get a bit tight by the end of the month. Most Level I field guys take home around $5,000 a month nett.
If anyone is interested - apply now - it's the best time to get in as they're not going to be picky out experience.
The job is entry level, so you'll get some training, but if you're a hard worker and have some wits about you, you'll pick it up in no time and go far.
Just like any application, concentrate on targeting the desired experience - any mechanical, hydraulics, electronics, even just manual labour work you've completed in the past.
Any tickets attained are also a massive bonus, especially BOSIET/TBOSIET as it saves the company paying to put you through and could give you the edge if you're lacking in experience.

there is no roster or any kind of roster for anyone entering these positions.
You will have to work when the phone rings and you get home when you get home... you dont have any set time off... at all.....
this isnt a position if your a family man or have regular sport/ commitments.
right now is the time for people who havnt been able to get a foot in the door... these dont come often..
most of us in these positions are earning 82-95k roughly b4 tax.
you dont have to pay for fuel/parking etc as cab charge for work etc.. uniform and ppe supplied.
you will need to in most cases, to spend ~3 mths in malaga training then offshore.
if you have your bosiet and mech exp then you shouldnt have a problem.
Drug tests will be done so dont waste your/their time if you know you wont pass..

Is there any need for plumber/gas fitters offshore? I'm only a 2nd year apprentice but would jump at the opportunity to work offshore. Haven’t been in the industry long enough to know of anyone who has worked off shore in my trade.

not really too much need for them that i have seen. Your would be hired under the owner of the rig typically for that kind of work and they normally have "maintainace" kinda people that float around on each other their owned rigs fixing the shit... but keep trying bud..

If you're an advanced Rigger, you'll get better money doing shutdowns.
These positions are more suited to people in trade positions trying to get into offshore.

Back on again.
Big drive for entry level positions - there's Workshop-based positions available too.
http://www.seek.com.au/JobSearch?DateRange=31&SearchFrom=quick&Keywords=weatherford
We machine drill pipes for Weatherford lol fark small world one of our biggest client too
Lol. I got conned into a field/workshop based role for Weatherford labs in brisbane... They sold it as being away for 3 weeks at a time, earning X amount. Reality was, for the 12 weeks i was there, I staying in the labs all day, didnt get asigned field work once.. Workshop/lab wages are an amazing $22/hr.. I got out fairly fast.
I hope weatherford drilling are somewhat better.

TRS is the bread and butter for Weatherford - you'll get plenty of offshore work if you want it.
We tend to not baby people so you have to be hungry.
Open invitation for anyone with mechanical/hydraulic/electrical background, with an interest to work offshore, to message me via PM.
Sick of HR/recruitment finding excuses not to do their job, so contact me directly.

Thanks to all those that have shown interest so far and don't be daunted if I ask for your resumé, it's just a formality.
It enables me to get you through to the interview stage, bypassing the HR "selection process".
There is however, a current listing for field service techs level 1, if you would like to take that route.
http://www.miningoilandgasjobs.com/job/58418/field-service-technician-i-trs/
This thread isn't by any means, an unsolicited posting on behalf of the company as I work as a TRS Account Manager.
If anyone is curious about what TRS is, check out > http://weatherford.com/Products/Drilling/TubularRunningServices/
This is a good opportunity to enter the oil and gas sector, with many of our field guys moving to specialist type roles not only for Weatherford, but for other offshore contractors.
Most importantly - Please don't apply if you can't work safely.
