Can anyone explain this rule of the FHOG:
To be eligible for the FHOG each applicant must occupy the home as their principal place of residence for a
continuous period of at least six months, commencing within twelve months of completion of the
eligible transaction.
Am i correct in understanding that i need to move in to the house within 12 months of house completion (i.e. receiving keys) and live in the house continuously for 6 months?
e.g. Keys received Aug 2011, need to move into house by Aug 2012
Cheers
Yes
Or just have mail sent there to prove that you "lived" there for a period of 6 months
Pretty much you can't just claim the FHOG then rent it out. You can rent it out after the first 6months however.

Pretty sure they come and check. Better off to just live in it for 6 months and do it properly. Don't want to fuck around with these sorts of things.

Im not trying to cheat the process or anything.
Basically, long story short, i am doing most of the finishing myself to save money (painting/timber flooring/landscaping) and wanted these done before i moved in, so just wanted to make sure.

From what i can gather not one person has been caught cheating the FHOG system. No one even knows who checks.

About 10 years ago a guy had to pay back FHOG & cover the stamp duty because he tried to help out a new tenant for his house who wanted to move in a few days early (before the 6 or 12 months was up).
Was in the news at the time.
