Question for all the lads out there in Auto Panel and Paint land.

What is the market average for a workshop supervisor / foreman.

We have a bloke we are looking to put on to run and repair all our fleet or cars / utes / trucks … he has about 20+ years exp, has run his own business and is currently working for a company that repairs and paints high end cars like Merc / Astons ect ect.

He is claiming he is on $40 an hour which seems fair to me but obviously we want to offer him something that would keep him happy.

We are thinking $45 p/hr + penalties.

Seem fair ? I have never had to deal with Auto painters pay rates in my industry on industrial painters so I am not quiet sure.

not sure on the $40 an hour he claims but i know my uncle did it for 20years up until about a few years ago and he was on the low $30/hr. But in saying that if hes as good as he says then i think minimum $40 an hour.

Due to the extreme shortage of painters and beaters Most places are offering high 30's if they want to get staff. Automotive has to be one of the lowest paid trades but the average wage has been increasing last few years as demand for good trades increases.
$45 +penalties is an extremely good wage!
