Hi Guys,
I am in need of a HR Licence ASAP.
Who do you recommend for training?
Also how many lessons before a test should I have and is there a long wait for doing a test?
You input would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
Buckets

I've sent a few people to this mob in Bunno and I've never heard of any problems with them, it's all pretty simple and straight forward.

If you don't need a Road Ranger don't bother with it (unless you want it for some reason)
I used this mob in Malaga http://www.makenestrucktraining.com.au/ for mine years ago and they were good as well. The old Scania (road ranger box) was a total piece of shit but the instructor was a great bloke
Keens are quiet expensive i used cmt in bunbury 2 day course then test and passed roadranger shit easy. If you go the road ranger you will get jobs easier.
My advice is dont rush your gear changing and use little when double clutching like 20mm pressure on the pedal and again dont rush the changes. Also if you make a mistake just take a breath and stay calm. The minute you get flustered/angry youll fuck up big time. The instructors are really good at cmt with a 93% pass rate. And if you with keens or cmt ask to do your test in collie its way easier and less traffic and the assesors are way into drag racing wich made it easier for coz i just relaxed and chatted bout cars the whole time and before i knew it i was done , i lost 1/4 of a point for taking of in 4th instead of second no big deal

R.A.C, on Grogan road next to the international airport. New-ish trucks and good instructors.

Depending on your location feel free to give RMS a try. While we don't offer packages for getting your license in 2 days we do have branches located at Joondalup, Wangara and Mandurah with an all new truck training fleet and the lessons are structured like car lessons, 2 hour slots. I personally reccomend going through Mandurah branch due to the high pass rate and our new Hino 11 speed HR-NS that are an absolute breeze to learn in. I think it's the DPI guys down there, something about being a retirement place they're all easy going, I'd also reccomend getting your HR-NS license as it's really quite easy and you'll be glad you did. (Plus we have hot receptionists that work here :) )
Yeah go for road ranger.. wrap your head around one of them and driving everything else is a breeze.

anyone tried this place before? http://www.allroadstruckdrivertraining.com.au they offer 1 or 2 day courses which is what i'm mainly after.
I found it best to ring potential employers and ask who they prefer you do your training through and went with the majority

Anyone had any experiences over the last 18months that have any advice to give me about getting lessons. I last drove a roadranger on a farm about 7 years ago haha.
Work in guilford so RAC is the closest I think but I'm under the impression that going with someone like Wrightways with their own assessors is worth while. Or is RAC a pretty good company to go through.

I got my licence threw keen bros a few months ago, did an open HR licence (road ranger). did 6 lessons, went for a test and passed. $120 per lesson. As most have said, don't rush. the road ranger wont work if you rush. gear recovery also becomes easier

Do a crash box - (RR ) or anything that has a splitter. You will get more employment as your "skill set will be deemed higher".
If your not too sure there is a Truck trailer show on this weekend at the Convention Centre. Target audience is Heavy Transport Industry.
I'm sure there will be lots you can ask there.
DPI, MRWA and Department of Mines will be there at Stand 5 so if 'industry put in a bump steer' Stand 5 will put you back on track.

Have done my HR (road ranger) within the last 18 months with Keen Bros. I had 10 lessons and a lesson just before the test, I'd recomend going for 1hr session which is 2 lessons and don't leave it too long between lessons. As others have said do the road ranger it is favoured more.

Just passed mine (Non Synchro) today through RMS Joondalup, can't recommend them enough, great company, instructors are patient and extremely helpful. They prefer you do 6 lessons prior to the test, I chose to do more because I could only do one lesson per week though, but if you can fit lessons in during Monday - Friday then shouldnt take ya too long.
Good Luck!

I take it Keens operate in Perth Metro? Their address is in Bunbury but I swear I always see their trucks around Welshpool. Sounds like a few have used them with good words, will call them up on Monday.

Did mine through RMS, lessons at all 3 branches and test at joondalup.
Mandurah branch was the best instructors I reckon and the bloke I had for my test was really chilled out, only thing u got marked down on was having some Astra indicate out of a roundabout so took off only to have him beeping his horn after he changed his mind where he was going.
As for the actual driving definitely go the crash box. bit of a headfuck to start but becomes second nature after a while.
Definitely notice a difference in your driving after you finish.

They operate in Maddington/cannington
2 yards in perth, Maddington and Malaga. Nearly all of their trucks are road ranger. I used them about 8 years ago

So Keens is not Keen Bro's lol. First lesson Wednesday with Keen Bro's in maddingotn. They offer a 2 day (9 hour + test) arrangement as well. If I am going good after a couple of lessons I see a two day sickie coming.

I have done a lot of looking lately but finding it hard to justify the cost to learn (I only want it for a volunteer role)
If I was to do it and go unrestricted and use someone it would be these guys http://www.aclasstruckdrivertraining.com.au/ My brother in law and a couple of friends have used them and passed first time no problems.

Did some lessons with wrightway - dont fkn bother. Instructor was eastern European, couldn't understand a word he said, and teaching trailer reversing involved getting to the corner to practice, then getting out and onto his phone while I tried to figure it out myself (HC)
As a side note, if you get the HR class unrestricted, the RR classification will carry up, which means if you ever move up to HC/MC you can do it in an auto truck, and still recieve an unrestricted license on passing. Makes figuring out how to reverse a b double a bit easier

If you're going to go to the trouble of driving a B Double on a auto, you will limit your companies you can drive for.
Apart from fuel companies, some east west stuff I can't think of too many people running a Auto box.
Do ya non synchro boxes, 18 speed and employment will be limitless.

What he is saying is
Do your HR/HC as Un Restricted in a RR, you can then do MC in an Auto but have a full Un restricted licence as the non synchro caries over as you've all ready been tested on it.

Sounds like it defies the purpose of being tested on reversing a multi articulated vehicle with a Non synchro box :/
Why? Not like you change gear in reverse.
Clutch out off you go.
(I have a RR licence for 11million cool points)

Until they panic and the b double or road train starts looking like a "allens snake". Haha. Seen that way too many times.
Horses for courses I guess.
I'm a RR fan, true manual, low-high splits and you can drive anything.
Brings back memories driving a 3 speed tractor on a farm....

I'll take an Allison box over your split box shit, enjoy chugging up greenmount too scared to change gears for fear of losing momentum.
Seen the comparisons of Allisons vs Road Rangers etc, nearly 200hp less needed to tow the same loads as well.
