Hey, I'm keen but a bit green. I've got an '88 GQ, pretty stock other than fresh suspension, rock sliders and small spotties, reckon she'd handle the track?

Turbo2.6L
16-02-2012, 03:51 PM
Easy. My standard height GU with china A/T's made it through when i had it, as did my 80 series cruiser with open centre diffs.

Dw, I'm not a cocky p player who thinks he knows everything. I know I have a lot learn and have been looking for people to go with for ages, so I can learn as much as I can.

yep that was us rangie either has two blown diffs or broken axles lol happy to say rangie towed the other one pretty well considering

Azrian

Farking top effort for Ross's rangie towing dean out. I thought there was one section there that we would of had to leave it.

Turbo2.6L
20-02-2012, 10:45 AM
Yep, tipping axles at this stage & the lack of diff lockers meant i was dead in the water. Ross' Rangie did awesome pulling me out & then all the way to Forrestfield. Top effort & very surprising considering it's still got the tired old 3.9L in it!

Azrian
20-02-2012, 11:03 AM
haha i dont think even love is going to fix that engine now. LS1 here we come.

20-02-2012, 04:16 PM
aagh yeh it was us that flew past you guys in the early hours.

Someone mentioned diffs, but thats random for two to pop at the same time - transfer case ??

only damage we had was the white patrol bending its draglink and ended up losing the rear tail / indicators from bashing shit. My patrol did everything well. Only a couple of tight climbs i didnt do for fear of scraping side of car

Turbo2.6L
20-02-2012, 04:29 PM
Originally thought it was diffs due to the noise it was making once the front let go, but after more consideration it would appear that axles are the logical choice.
Axles were probably on their way out anyways due to having an engine fitted that actually has some torque. Standard 3.5L Rover engines are junk!

broke one axle in front, then cos deans a rough pingpingpingping kept trying to climb stuff in 2wd resulting on broken rear axle

Was a good night. Shame the Rangie broke Dean. Top effort for giving it a go though, no way I'd try that shit in the Pajero. The track has changed since last time I went (early Dec), the chicken track has become the difficult track, the difficult track, well fuck that.

Good to meet you bigfoot, the Patrol did well!

Ross, your Range Rover never ceases to amaze, got to fix the spring retainers when the engine transplant happens. It will be a weapon.

cheers Jase, ol' girl went alright, wasnt expecting big things from the spring "fix" considering i put the welder down 10mins before leaving.

was pretty happy the diff locker i salvaged from a wreck worked a treat, cheers to adrian for hooking it up for me finally.

it will be taken off the road this weekend, the motor ripped out and a permanent fix found for holding springs in will be found/made.

was a long night but shit happens. all part of the fun in the end.

That's why you buy sub $5k 4wd's to go offroad. Being rough is the fun part!

Beno will be able to knock you up some decent retainers, or just build the sides up on existing ones which should do the trick. I'll hit him up for you

What year rangie Dean?

Turbo2.6L
22-02-2012, 11:18 AM
'87 with an injected 350 & microtech. Needed some love when i got it, fixed it up, then smashed it at powerlines & tears followed! Haha

22-02-2012, 11:23 AM
Cool. 87 is a good year too have if you running a 350chev, 2nd last year before the BW transfer cases where fitted. The LT230 is as strong as an OX just noisy!

Pics?

Turbo2.6L
22-02-2012, 01:10 PM
Yea LT230 is whiney as hell, but still going strong.
No pics as it's just a shitter. Too much effort pulling the camera out! Haha
You should bring yours out next time we head to Powerlines. Wont be til after March 31st as it also doubles as my tow car, and can't risk having it off the road again while the season's still going.

Yeah I will, Was keen this time but had a family function I couldnt Dodge. Mines flex-o-fail @ the moment tho. Fitted caster correction bushes too the radius arms until I can be arsed getting either cranked arms or the swivels slotted
