I thought it was an STI(?)
Horrible crashes! Cage might save you until you find yourself upside down in 2ft of water.
Really good to see the other competitors (people in driving suits) running in to help.

Obviously there map didnt indicate a hard enough corner...
I would have bricked hard.

Do you reckon this was taken by Optical Note Photography? I'm not quite sure...

They should have recce'd it at least a couple of times and had their own pace notes. That would have been a double caution for me, one that would have stuck in my memory.

Nasty prang. Capri was bad but landed on its wheels. Old man Medieke in an interview before the event said his advioce to his son was "dont crash it and dont come second." I guess he got one out of two. A car 6 years in the build fairly munted.
Personally, farked if I would want to be in the sti, upside down in the drink and trying to unravel myself from my harness/HANS etc etc and get out of the thing. Worst nightmare. Apparently the corner wasnt that tricky and should have stood out if reccied properly.

Is it something that should have had a barrier in the area to make sure something like this didn't happen?

Mountain roads, lots of steep drop offs, part of the game.

^^^ Spot on. The fact that this can potentially happen is what makes it such a rewarding challenge....or so punishing when it goes wrong.

lol, and ripple strips, kitty litter at every corner?
rallying...
and if you look... the sti rolled down the hill, an awful lot slower than the capri... the capri took the brunt from falling off a 10m cliff on the passenger side/a pillar.
i know which crash id much rather be in...

No I simply meant like a small barrier to stop a car from falling off - yeah it'd hit the barrier and still be punishing to the car and driver, probably not as much fun as flying through the air fast and furious spec would be though haha

there are so many corners - it wouldn't make sense to put one barrier up and not others.
In fact in these situations making more obsticals and barriers can make it more dangerous for the drivers, who are quite often using all the road any way. No barrier would have stopped that car form landing in the river without doing more harm to the drivers! Thats what Saftey gear and cages are for.
