Wondering if its possible to get a motor mechanic adult apprenticeship that pays minimum 50k 1st year as they all seem to be $500 a week :(:mad:? Im sick of my current job in IT pay sucks and the chance to move up very slow and very boring....I did a Pre Apprenticship and worked in afew workshops but at the time the pay was crap trying to rent and having a bitch of a ex girlfriend who knew how to spend money!! Anybody out there made a massive career change how is it, still happy? best thing you have done?

Are you dead set on the motor mechanic trade? Maybe look into a mechanical fitters job.. as an adult apprentice you should be starting between $15-17hr and If your doing a decent 40+hr week you should clear more than $500pr week.. If you can get your foot in the door with a mining company you would be making alot more.

Don't be a car mechanic

Try heavy duty the pay will be better and more opportunities to earn big cash once you are finished

Do whatever makes you happy mate, money is a big obstacle, but you don't wanna get old and hate your job and regret doing it your whole life.

Pay is important, but I'd rather go to a job I love everyday and earn a little less.

I'm just about to finish my apprenticeship (boilermaker) and plan on studying externally (so i still get a bit of coin ;) ) once done to open other avenues.

Definetly try for heavy dudty mechanic, there is 1st and 2nd year apprentices at my work doing 50hr weeks and clearing $1000pw. Plus given the number of machines the mining companies are buying there is going to be a definate need for more mchanics.

I'm third year and I clear $1k a week. I work 10 hour days and 6 hours on a saturday.

If you have a background in motor mechanics, and have some common sence and are reliable. Mature age apps are out there, but 50k might be a bit steep. 40k or so is possible, but you have to know the basics and pick up the rest fast...... paying 50k for someone whos there 4 days a week is a mining only option

FIFO Cleaning on barrow Island offered me minimum 52k-65k, I'd do it if I wasn't on a similar kick here.

I would also recomend HD mech. I contract as a HD mechanic. Just upped rate to 80p/h. 2 years out of my time. If you want an apprentiship a company I subby for is looking. Send me a PM
