anyone using bigpond for their internet. i've always preferred amnet for internet but with my departure from my job i need to start paying for my phone line, adsl and mobile myself.
So was thinking of just putting it all on 1 bill with telstra.
In the past i have found that the wa internet traffic was horribly slow with bigpond, so dont want it affecting the gt5 racing nights. lol
So anyone using them?

Yep.. Im no computer expert but its slow as at times and they always overcharge me for the bundle on my bill... wish I had just used them for phone (for reception on site) and gone another way for my home net.

Why put it on 1 bill with Telstra? You can put it all on 1 bill with iiNet, and others.
Telstra services have improved massively in the last 12 months and if you can't get on a DSLAM owned by your ISP then you end up on Telstra equipment anyway. I wouldn't go with them in WA personally, I'd stick to the local providers.

Do you still get to watch AFL etc for free on bigpond?

Have had Bigpond Broadband at home for nearly 10 years, never had any major speed issues.
I'm still able to download Linux distro's at anything between 800 to 1200kB/sec without issue.
Their pricing is a little higher than the rest, but other than that, no complaints here.

If you do decide to use them, remember that uploads count in your data useage. I've recently had an issue where they claim I went through 200Gb in a stupidly quick amount of time. Try to keep an eye on data throughput through your modem.

remember that uploads count in your data useage.
That's the way with most ADSL plans now-a-days.
Leave your torrent program on for a day... say good-bye to your quota.

There are shitloads of providers who don't count uploads. It's just a consideration with Bigpond. They have the 500Gb plan now though so it's not too big a deal anymore.

Disliked Bigpond until i moved to Collie, $69/month for 200gb ADSL2+ cannot be beaten by anyone though...

I have no choice where I am as they are the only provider with decent speeds.
They have been good so far.
Counting uploads is the biggest crock of shit since issuing yellow stickers to modded cars with mod permits.
Wankers.
It doesn't cost them a cent to upload bandwidth to the internet. Its purely a revenue based decision because most of their customers don't know any better.
McLovin is right - there's heaps of good value honest ISP's that don't charge for uploads. Find one and stick with them.

i live in mundijong so have no choice but to use telstra for the land line rental.
as i will be going fifo 8 days on, 6 off. my current usage will take a nose dive anyway.
No home phone required?
IInet Naked deal with the Mobile Sim plan
Which is what Im on now, as we never ever use the home phone and cbf paying line rental(which is a rip off btw)
Naked takes out line rental but you can still opp for VOIP line
IInet mobile(share same signal with Optus) can be added to your contract all done in one invoice
only down side is upload counts as download but if you don't download torrent or on a private tracker thingy no need to worry
Im on 200/200 quotta with $20 Sim
Each month I pay $79 net + $20 for mobile plan

i wasnt aware you could use iinet naked unless it was an exchange with their equipment in it. i.e live in the bush or whoop whoop like i do and you cant get it.
And yes, i have no need for the phone. in fact i'll be unplugging the pingpingpingping so no one can use it.

Telstra used to be the worst for pricing and usage i used to hate them soo much i wanted to switch to iiinet, but for last 10 years of using telstra I've seen it drop out once or twice.
Now I'm on a 200gig plan for 69dollars with speeds up to 3.2mbps it's fantastic.

Im with telstra in my new house.. 200GB 69 bucks.. upto 8mbs.. good value, ive bundled my 79 cap on the one bill.
Except right now the pricks have had no service in my area (baldivis) for 8 fkn days!! They reckon its a major hardware problem affecting 148 ppl around here.:mad:
Other than that.. no problems lol
iphone personal hotspot is getting thrashed haha

It doesn't cost them a cent to upload bandwidth to the internet Citation on that? Plus, they still need to purchase expensive hardware to handle the outbound data, so really internode's solution is the best - charge a flat rate and be blind to onpeak/offpeak/up/down.

I wouldn't call it a revenue based decision. iiNet in particular made the upload quota case because they saw a massive increase in uploads which meant major congestion for their upstream. Granted all bandwidth they buy is symmetrical.
Everyone else started to follow with upload quotas I believe.
IInet does not charge upload if you bundled with home phone but thats means you have to pay line rental and phone chages...
PS IInet now owns Internode or something along those lines.
Had telstra for last 7 years, now rolling 200gb for $69. I've experienced 2 drop outs in that time.
