8 points and 5 left? isnt it a 12 demerit point system?

LOL mate i literally just forgot ... was in a mad rush to get to shops and had a million things running through my head ... honest mistake ... had only driving 500m and the shop is like 1km from my house so its not like i was travelling cross country at high speed. Still no excuse.

I drove 2 years with 1 point ... piece of piss.

when you get the letter in the mail you then go into dpi and they give you the paper work and 21 days to apply for it. otherwise suspension starts in 28 days.

yes ben you can apply for double or nothing. They will send you a Excessive Demerit Point Notice. You go into DPI and they will make you sign to form to say that you have been served, you decide there if you want to go onto Double or nothing , then they make you sign the contract for double or nothing and your good to go for 12 months. When you get your licence back you'll already have the 3 taken off your new licence.

if you take double or nothing do you still have those 8 points on your license and have to wait the 3 years. @ 13 points its a 3 month suspension after aren't your points reset to 0. if you don't absolutely need a car and can go without licence for 3 months it might be the easier option?

I did double or nothing and I never got the points that took me over 12 added after I finished it. 0 demerrits he day after it ended instead of the 2 extra. That's the one part with Rhys's post I'd say different.

Maybe just cop 3 months suspension, chuck $20 a week to a work mate to pick you up, and then start fresh with a full clearance.

Saves working hard to be good for 6-12 months and then have another lapse of road sense and lose it all again!?

Might just need to weigh up both sides....

$20 a week? is it 1992 again?? :)

By running double or nothing for 12months doesnt it help you out insurance price wise as you have never 'lost' your licence....

I'd assume so.

Rhys

Its technically not classed as a loss of licence. When the cops run your licence it actually says your on a clean licence with all your demerits.

All the people against it, if you cant get 12 months without loosing a single point there must be something wrong

So true, I am at about 4 years without losing a point, and I have done some stupid shit in that time. Can be done if you follow the 'correct time and place' attitude and don't drive like a dick all the time.

I got 7 months in then ran into a cockhead on a power trip. 6 months was HARD.

Worst case scenario is you fuck up on double or nothing and then have to go on E plates. At least with double or nothing you have a chance to carry on as normal. I hope I never loose my licence but if I did I'd go double or nothing myself.

TJ
24-12-2011, 08:11 PM
Nope - you cannot go e plates if you fail at double or nothing - very specifically told that when you choose.

Its all to easy to wander over the speed limit and get flashed, especially if you have a lot on your mind.

It comes down to pure luck really I doubt anyone here can say that in the past 12 months they didnt exceed the limit once. 12 months is a long time...

Lump
24-12-2011, 08:21 PM
yeah, pure luck & the amount of kays you do

I had it in my head every second I was on double or nothing, cruise control is your friend.

Passed DON as well, had two close calls with cameras but my spidey senses saved my arse. And I was driving Roe/Tonkin/Leach or South St to work and back every weekday too.

I can still answer that question with confidence when applying for insurance as well - 0 times loss or suspension of license! Saved a few bucks I'm guessing.

This in general!

how long till you get some points back?

put off paying the fine as long as you can. have done this before when i lost 4 points and only had 3 left, was getting 4 back in 4 months, i paid the fine (and an extra $113.50 in late fees) 5 months after getting the original fine. was before double or nothing came to play....

Socrates
25-12-2011, 03:53 PM
I'm sure they back date the offence to when it happened, not when you pay it.
unless they don't, which is good.

Niva
25-12-2011, 03:59 PM
time to pay fucks up the system nicely :)

Rhys
25-12-2011, 04:30 PM
if you dont pay the fine, as soon as it hits Fines Enforcement the points come off your licence, so putting of the fine can work

mys1
25-12-2011, 05:07 PM
Putting off the fine can work - I've done it

Double or nothing I finished this year - you need the right mindset!

Not rushing to try it again though....
