Looking to buy my son a remote control helicopter for Christmas. He already has a small $40 chinese one but i want to get something a little bigger and better - budget is around $100. Anyone have any suggestions?

Seen some in Jaycar i am going to checkout this arvo.

Thanks

Walkera CB100 or CB180q if you can find one local. They both fly well and are cheap too fix

Its a beginner chopper and easy to fly, use it as a stepping stone up to single blades

I think theres one called "the big one" seems like the best of the coaxial ones.

When he's ready to step up to single rotors I would recomend saving up and buying a sim first. My pick would be phoenix, you can land a copy with a dx5 for a bit over $200. Also try and go mode 2 for choppers, makes things allot easier when you start learning to fly 3d. I fly mode one for planks (planes) but change over to mode 2 for choppers.

Bought one of the Volitation's for my old man for Christmas, should be good.

Imho the only down side too learning on a big Co-Ax heli is that you cant fly sideways with them, and as aileron is alot in normal flight with CCPM helis its handy to learn that from the start.

having said that, not having too counter side drift with ailerons makes it easier too lean too hover nose in

As i mentioned above I highly recommend the Walkera CB180/q as a learner

I crash and bashed mine so much it wasnt even funny. Parts are cheap as chips and avaliable locally from a bloke in Maylands that runs http://www.toysdownunder.com/

you'l get about 7mins out of a pack and they use the same size pack as an Align 250 so extra batts with the correct connectors can be had for around $7 from HobbyKing

Anyone know of a good one that can handle a gopro attched to it?

Any of the cheap 450's would easily carry a gopro around. Possibly the bigger Co-Ax's too.

Quadcopters are the go for camera work. Easier too fly and super stable

how much do you wanna spend.... :D

And if your thinking that 7min doesnt sound like much, trust me its plenty. Its an achievement managing to keep something aloft for that long. I've seen many blokes have 2-3 second flights when learning.

Eflite Blade CX2 or CX3 coax heli's are great as a first one and come with everything. They have full function so can fly sideways as well although they are a bit more expensive at 250 odd bucks. And as one of the other guys said before stepping up to single rotor heli's a simulator is a good way to start.
