LOL @ Newey with goggles. That's fucking classic.
Great to see RBR dominating again. Vettel has this shit!
fml @ riccairdo. that run off has cost him 2 points and the lead on vergne. now his gonna fall further behind :( overall though i guess his done well to come from 21st.
By watching his times it was clear that his tyres were shot even before that little excursion. He stopped 4 laps before Vergne and unfortunately that's what cost him that last spot... having said that, Vergne started in 15th, Ricciardo started 21st, and Ricciardo made the pass for JEV very easy to stop Lewis jumping the both of them. Shows he's a team player.
Fantastic drive from DR, it's just unfortunate that it was a good drive from JEV as well.

Turns out Ricciardo thinks had some sort of brake issue when he came off, and Hamilton had a failed rear anti-roll bar for most of the race.
Would have been good for the finish to see Massa try and catch Webber, but probably the smartest move to keep giving Alonso maximum points.

Ricciardo was running in front of Vergne near the end of the race, but a car problem meant the Australian lost the position to Vergne.
"With about 10 laps to go, I found myself going straight on at Turn 3 and at first I thought it must have been a suspension failure because the car suddenly shot to the left and I could not stop it," he said.
"However, I realised I could keep going, even if every time I braked the car pulled to the left and I was locking the front a lot. Unfortunately, that cost me eighth place, but at least I was able to give it up to my team-mate.
"I'm still grateful to be in the points with such a problem, although it's a case of mixed emotions, as it would have been my best result of the season. But for the team overall, it's been a very good day."
Bugger. He's been robbed twice now!!

Vettel's arrival at Ferrari has been sanctioned by Alonso, who has a say in the identity of his team-mate. The Spaniard vetoed the idea of Lewis Hamilton joining the team earlier this year.

Vettel would be stupid to goto Ferrari in 2014, unless Newey is retiring.
New rules, New formulae, I would bet strongly on a Newey machine pissing all over the competition.

I wouldn't. His speciality is aero, and everything he invents is usually borderline breaking the rules so ends up getting banned, or copied. Up until 2 races ago McLaren had more wins, and up until this weekend a Ferrari driver was leading the WDC. Throw in a couple of randoms on the top step and RBR are a long way from the domination they've had over the last 2 years.
I think RBR's success NOW is a result of other teams dropping off in the development race as opposed to RBR stepping up their game. McLaren, failing cars. Ferrari, too much wine and pasta. Lotus? Where the fuck did their innovation go... they always start the year well (fast!) and then end up nowhere. Mercedes? LOL.
I think Mercedes will step up their game big time in 2014. Ferrari will probably herp derp through the year again. McLaren will be nowhere. RBR, I wouldn't bet on them based on this year's performance.

2014 will be more about the engine than anything else... something that RBR have no control over.
Plus look at it this way, its very clear that Ferrari have number 1 driver and the team and team-mate must back them at all cost. Something Vettel doesn't get a RBR

Everything everyone does is usually borderline breaking the rules so ends up being banned or copied (double diffuser, f-duct, double-DRS - none of these were Newey designs and they were all against the "spirit of the rules" and were subsequently banned).
Based on this year's performance you wouldn't bet on RBR??? You mean, leading the constructors championship and drivers championship isn't good enough for you?
All 3 of the top teams are pretty equal, yet RBR has jumped ahead in the development race. I think it's proven now that RBR, McLaren, and Ferrari can all hold their own when it comes to building a fast car. I don't think Mercedes have proven that yet, and I wouldn't bet on them for 2014.
2014 will be more about the engine than anything else... something that RBR have no control over.
It will be NOTHING about the engine. Look at how it is now... We all know the Renault engine is down on power compared to the Mercedes and Ferrari engines, does it matter? No.
ps. RBR have a LOT of control over the engine development. They are Renault's biggest customer and get more exposure for Renault than any other team on the grid. If they make requests (for example, off-throttle engine mapping tweaks) they will get it.
Regardless, all engines will be within 20hp of each other due to the restrictions on fuel supply. That won't be the defining factor in the WDC or WCC.

He isnt going to get that at Ferrari either, Alonso is signed up until 2016 and I dont see him playing second fiddle to Vettel.
Brockas echoed the rest of my argument.
Renault is rumoured to be 15hp down on Ferrari and Merc, but 10% more fuel effecient, thus needing less fuel, and less weight in the cars. In todays tyre fuckinggaynesssavethemcostheyare shit age, that is way more important than 15hp.

Like I was saying on Facebook somewhere.
Vettel would be stupid to move to Ferrari, really what reason is there to leave a team that has (almost) given him 3 straight WDC and won three straight WCC. The only reason to leave would be if Newey bailed (which I think is a condition of Vettel's contract.
Horner responded to the reports by saying that Vettel will definitely be driving for RBR in 2014 and Domenicali has come out and said that as always, he doesn't want his 2 drivers racing each other.
I think this season has been a bit upside down in regards to any team having superiority.. I mean,
RBR were hurting from the blown diffuser ban and the FIA ruling against a lot of their developments. Like other people have said they've pushed hard developing their car and caught some of the other teams snoozing a little. I think it was Horner/Newey that when Sky asked them about their jump in performance after Singapore they said that it was just a lot of smaller details, they've just been consistently refining it and it's now that they've finally got it worked out.
Surely Renault wouldn't be the underdogs in regards to engine development, I mean they are the worlds largest manufacturer of race cars.
They have a lot of experience packaging smaller capacity race motors also (Formula Renault 1.6/2.0/3.5, they also build the GP2 motors). That's before you start to look at their experience in lower capacity turbo road cars. I dare say they would also have the experience/skills of Nissan to draw on.
If anyone, I'd say Ferrari will be the ones who may struggle in regards to developing their new motor?

What experience do Ferrari have with turbocharged motors? The only time they've dabbled in them is when previous F1 engines were turbo.
Ferrari / fiat. Fiat have dabbled for ages.

If Vijay Mallya's financial woes don't go away Force India might be up for sale. Didn't old the TAG F1 engines have something to do with Porsche ? Could McLaren be ditching Mercedes for Porsche power (Not likely at all I'm guessing) I'd love to see Porsche get in F1 but I'd love Honda to make a come back even more even if it's just as an engine supplier. McLaren + Honda > all !
TAG = Porsche in the 80's
Wasnt too bad either, just ask Prost and Co....
Force India will not be for sale even if Vjayjay is in money issues - he only owns 45% of the team.

If anyone is watching FP1 right now, they are looking closely at the RBR front wing.
Incredibly, the bottom section of the wing is only held on by about 2cm of carbon fibre to each mounting point. In other words, those two big pillars you see on most cars connecting the nose to the front wing are actually only attached by about 2cm each on the RBR.
They suspect that, while it passes all the tests, it's slightly rotating at speed and deflecting, ensuring that it's giving the maximum downforce at low speeds but reducing drag at top speed.
Fucking hell Newey is a genius and obviously his team of engineers are pretty fucking clued on too.
Mclaren have been doing it for a few seasons whilst redbull did the flexy wings.
Once flexy wing got rained in RBR have done the rotating wings as well.

Watching FP2 atm on sky stream.
They are talking to the Pirelli rep about next years tyres and he's explaining that they are making them softer next year and talking about all the extra research the teams will need to do in the aero tunnel because the load profile of the tyres are going to be different for next year, effecting aero.
This shits me to tears, its not new tyres because they have come up with new and awesome that makes them faster or corner better, its just so that the drivers need to learn the new tyre and spend shit loads on new testing....

Would be happy if this and Valencia got dropped and replaced by two decent races.
The weird thing is I'm not sure why it's so shit. There are 2 long straights into two tight turns... this usually leads to some great passes, but in India it just doesn't.

Abu Dhabi GP: Red Bull makes major set-up changes for Vettel
Red Bull has made major changes to the set-up of Sebastian Vettel's car ahead of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in a bid to help his chances of charging through the field.
The world champion will start from the pitlane at Yas Marina after his team elected to remove his RB8 from parc ferme overnight in the wake of the fuel cell problems that led to his exclusion from qualifying.
The team claimed that it had chosen to take the car out of parc ferme to get to the bottom of why the FIA was unable to extract the mandatory one-litre sample of fuel it requires for post-qualifying checks.
But as well as working on the fuel issue, Red Bull has made hefty revisions to the set-up of the car to try to boost Vettel's chances of recovery.
A statement issued by the FIA a few hours ahead of the race revealed that Red Bull has replaced the gearbox of the car, made changes to the suspension and had also fitted new gear ratios to those submitted after second practice.
The changes to the car will be primarily aimed at optimising its chances of overtaking other cars - especially because in its configuration on Saturday the Red Bull was slowest through the speed trap at the end of the main straight.
According to the FIA's official speed trap figures issued after qualifying, Vettel and team-mate Mark Webber were at the bottom of the rankings - with speeds of 193.5 and 193.4mph respectively.
This compares with the fastest speed of Pastor Maldonado at 202.4mph – while main rivals Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton were recorded at 198.7 and 195.0mph
Red Bull is likely to have ensured that Vettel has more straightline speed potential in the race, so he is more able to make use of the two DRS zones at Yas Marina and overtake other cars.
Team principal Christian Horner said on Saturday night that he believed there remained opportunities for Vettel to score points in the race as the championship enters its final stages.
"There is no reason why Sebastian cannot salvage something," he said.
Red Bull is still in with a chance of securing the constructors' championship in the Abu Dhabi GP.
To do so, it needs to outscore Ferrari by six points and McLaren by 16 on Sunday.
New tooned - awesome.
Currently interviewing Newey on Sky F1

Felipe Massa believes that Mark Webber should have been punished for his part in their coming together at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
The pair were fighting over sixth place when they banged wheels at the Turn 11 chicane. Webber cut the corner and as he rejoined the circuit at Turn 13, Massa spun while avoiding his Red Bull rival.
The stewards looked into the incident but decided that neither driver had been at fault and declared it a racing incident.
Massa, however, felt completely differently about the matter and was left in no doubt that it was Webber who caused the problem.
When asked by AUTOSPORT for his view on the incident, Massa said: "We braked at Turn 11, and he tried to pass me on the outside.
"I was doing the corner on the inside and then we touched wheels at the exit of the corner. Then, he decided to go straight to the chicane, so he cut the chicane.
"I did the chicane, which he cut, and he passed in front of me. I had to brake very strongly not to hit his car and I spun. So he caused an incident.
"But it is not the first time that we see the stewards not getting through the right decisions or the right direction. They decided not to give anything, which for me is completely wrong."
LOL pingpingpingping is fucked. "we touched wheels at the exit of the corner"... Massa understeered into Webber after out-braking himself trying to defend his position, despite being clearly behind Webber going into the corner. Massa punts him off the track, then complains he went off the track? wtf.
Check out the on-board again... notice how far in front Webber is on the outside before they start braking. The pass is done, but Massa throws it down the inside anyway.

Yeah Massa wasn't going to make that corner.
Can't get over how good that race was last night, Kimi on the radio was so good for laughs. Overtaking and wheel to wheel everywhere, you just don't see that any more.
Vettel cutting up the rear of the field was also entertaining, he was definitely going hard. Pulling off some dives up the inside from miles back, I know they were slower cars but still good fun to watch

And then I had a moment with the Toro Rosso. I don't know what he did. He was braking his car down and I was surprised, caught out. Maybe I should have paid more attention, but yeah, I went to the right and I wasn't very lucky, there was the DRS board, which I took head on and then I thought 'well, now the front is fucked at least, so we've got to change it,'… (sorry).

LOL
Where else was he going to go? Maybe the inside line? He knows Webber is on the outside and has his car ahead of him, yet he dives down the inside to try to keep position, runs wide, smashes into Webber. He could have avoided that collision by not out-braking himself, taking the inside line, and then attacking Webber on the outside.
He's crying about Webber passing him off the track, but without his poor driving, Webber wouldn't have needed to leave the track.
I'm sure that's how the stewards saw it, and that's why there wasn't any penalties.
"I think this weekend we had the pace to get a one-two," Hamilton said.
"I'm not really sure what Jenson was struggling with, but we had the strength in the car and the ability this weekend."
LOL.
I know what Jenson was struggling with, a lack of talent.

LOL yeah Vettel drove a great race. Look at all those world champions and great drivers he overtook.
So, finally admitting Schumacher isn't that great?

Had to overtake 20 people and albeit with 2 safety cars, only finished 4 seconds behind Alonso.
Nar, pretty shit drive hey.
ps. There are 8 world titles won by the people he overtook.

remove second safety car would have finish in 4th behind button... many seconds behind alonso :P doesn't make him a good drive makes him very lucky :P

So he would have only gone from 24th to 4th... Not a good drive

So he would have only gone from 24th to 4th... Not a good drive
Lets factor in afew things
1) 2 Safety Cars
2) Pit Stop strategy (2 stopping vs 1 stop)
3) Multiply Cars crashing out
4) Raw pace compare to the rest of the field
5) Both TR cars didn't even fight they let Vettel through straight away
6) RBR pull Webber in early so Vettel didn't have to over take him (and this pretty much fucked mark race putting him in that pack of cars which ending in them smashing into him)
I don't think there was anything special about the drive when you have one of the fastest if not the fastest cars on the grid. Add to the fact RBR change the setup on the car to Suit the race, so they had the speed where they needed it!
Example of something similar:
2006 season Brazilian Grand Prix, Schumacher started 10th then got a puncture few laps in pretty much put him in dead last but ended up finishing the race in 4th.

lady luck on his side, what are the chances of that..
overall its pretty amazing how he climbed up and button did tried his best to defend it but opted to play safe and let vettel go.
Webber and his usual antics ... Have grid post and DNF... he did get pretty lucky to drive away with car intact after 2 bumps and no luck at the 3rd ones...
He didnt pass Schumacher fyi - He pitted just before he was caught for position
-Hit Senna trying to pass him
-Tried to overtake Grosjean all 4 wheels off the track.
-Perez, Massa, Di Resta, Rosberg, Hulkenburg all his incidents that got them out of the way
-Schumacher pitted just before he was caught
-Webber was moved out of his way
-Both Torro Rossos simply moved over.
-Got past Malda and Kobi in the pitstop stage in free air, no actual track pass
-Lewis went bang.
He also had the luxury of changning his car so he could be fast on the straights - he was maxing out at 322 - 10kmh more than his fp1/2/3/quali speed.
Vettel's result was amazing, however his drive less so. Despite being raped on Saturday with that penalty the guy just seems to fall arse-backwards into luck consistently. Not trying to take anything away - he was extremely quick - but it has to be said a large part of the reason he finished where he did was due to the fact he pitted early (which itself was the result of two 'at fault' accidents) and that just turned out to be optimum. Then add half the rest of the field ahead of him driving into each other or grenading, two perfectly timed safety cars and hey presto! Podium.
Still, he was fast when he needed to be.
Still happy for Kimi, gutted for Lewis, who once again exposed just how shit Button is.

So what does impress you?
I'm sorry but considering everyone in the F1 paddock is praising Vettel for a great race, your opposing opinion makes you look like a bit of a numpty.

Generally you will find that "lucky" people are consistently lucky for a reason... If you put yourself in the right position all the time, the odds start moving in your favour. I'm not just talking about racing and F1 but all walks of life.
He also doesn't have the best luck, hasn't he been leading 2 races this year to have to retire with mechanical failure?

Great example... 10th to 4th vs 24th to 2nd
problems reading? started 10th... got puncture drop down to last! my point is its not unheard of for a driver to come from the back of the pack to the top 5 when you have a top class car under you

Vettel has yet to be in a car which isn't top class (since joing RBR), therefore i don't rate him highly personal opinion. No doubt he can drive, If he couldn't he be like webber and not won a championship however i just don't rate him. Doesn't mean i don't accept he has skill and is a good driver. Some sporting stars you like some you don't Vettel is one i don't would not matter if he was driving for RBR or Ferrari would be the same :)
hence if he joins ferrari in 2014 i will slit wrist

Yes I can read, doesn't change my statement from being true...
Also note that the person who went from 10th to last to 4th at the time was one of the best driver in the world, so if you want to compare them. Then you are comparing Vettel's skill to Schui 2006 skill.
Once again I don't think anyone said it was the best drive ever but calling it not a good drive is fairly far fetched

was actually comparing cars ;) not drive 2 driver skill.
however i will agree that not calling it a good drive is fairly far fetched, boy has skill i just dont like him lol

LOL
How can I argue with that logic?
Lewis Hamilton has always driven for a top-3 team, therefore he's no good?
Fernando is driving for a team with a completely unlimited budget, therefore if he doesn't win he's no good?
Arguing against an opinion is stupid, so I'm not going to bother. All I'm going to say is I think you're wrong, and the points tally agrees with me.
Sick of everyone harping on about luck when, as Simon pointed out, Vettel should have 50 more points than he currently has if it wasn't for being unlucky. Not denying Alonso hasn't been unlucky and some points, and obviously Lewis, but it's just comical how quickly people forget about things when it doesn't concern the driver they like (myself included).
however i will agree that not calling it a good drive is fairly far fetched, boy has skill i just dont like him lol
It's unfortunate that more people can't simply admit this. I don't like Lewis - I think he's the most arrogant pingpingpingping in the field - but not once will I ever try to claim he isn't a brilliant driver.
Lets not forget Vettel was actually leading the race at one stage.

Should most likely reword what i was trying to say. It would be nice to see RBR come up against a team that can match them race for race. There has yet to be a team in the past 3 years that has done so. RBR seems to have this awesome ability to continuously improve the car and always bring something new to the table which allows there drivers to be able to fight for top spot.

I think it's fair to say Vettel definitely had some circumstance go his way but there is no denying that combining him with a Newey built car certainly gives him an advantage over his competitors. Personally I don't think he has the raw speed of Hamilton or the intellect of Alonso but he does have that something that makes him a true Champion. One article I read recently stuck in my mind that articulates perhaps what is the common perception amongst us non redbull fanboys that Hamilton said.
~ "Sebastian misses four apexes on a single lap and still goes quickest. He goes off and he still goes quickest. And I think ‘Holy crap, I couldn’t do that lap even if I was on the limit’. His car is just that far ahead of everyone else’s. They've made such a big step for some reason.” - Hamilton
I don't know if that's just professional envy or a concise observation.

That's just typical of Hamilton's arrogance though isn't it?
When you watch an on-board of Vettel getting a pole position, very rarely is he missing apexes or going off the track. Usually if he puts in a scruffy lap, Mark beats him. Probably why it's 11-7 in qualifying for him v Webber.
