View Full Version : "Microsoft" expired certificate scam

RELEASE

Bit of a warning to those that get the same call I did.
Sounded way to suss to be true but played along partly to see where it was going to go.

Indian guy calls saying he is from microsoft and I have some expired certificates on my machine that he can help me with resolving.
Asks you to run cmd prompt and bring up basically the CLSID. He reads it to you even tho he can't see it to confirm that they are legit and it's your pc that's sending them the message that it has expired certificates.

Then gets you to log in to logmein123 while a "technician" called Shaun Common takes over to guide you through the process of what he is going to do.
He does the whole "I'll show you all the errors that it's causing " bla bla

He wouldn't give me his Microsoft id or reference number for the call so as soon as he got to the whole go to logmein123 and enter this code I hung up.

Run through whole process, then ask if you need to have your computer turned on.

Or tell them you're on a 33.6k dialup modem.

Working in IT - I have always wanted one of these calls just to see how long I can string them along for.

I work at an on-hold company.
We just put them on hold.

Did this one time. Had it right up to the point where he wanted me to give remote access. Politely told them to fuck off and hung up, then received a call a few seconds later with a "FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKER" in a squeaky Indian voice hahahaha.

i have a simple thing i use to waste their time...
ive got a virtual machine running for these phone calls so when they call and do the log me in thing i let them do wat they want then just restore back to the snapshot of the os before they called.

they make all kinds of threads like if you give me your CC number im gonna destroy your computer. say to them go for it.

i have so much fun with these guys lol
