Lay out on the lawn last night drinking beer and watching the lightning directly over our heads.. Not even enough rain to make us move from the grass. But the way it formed out of nowhere on the radar over rotto was pretty impressive. Blue patches that went straight to red without collecting $200. Love thunderstorms so much.

Personally I don't think we'll see big hail today though, not enough heat in the ground after yesterday

That is what I am thinking also , but I literally just pick up my car from mazda this morning after they replaced the turbo , not taking chances.

Ever since that big hail storm happened, whenever there is a slight possibility of hail, pingpingpingpings now panic. Rocked up to work today and tried to park my car in my undercover bay, all the pingpingpingpings with uncovered bays pushed their way inside and triple parked. Farken annoying, we'll probably end up with a few drops of rain and that's probbaly all that will happen... again!

Mad_Aussie

tbh I wouldn't mind another massive storm, car is insured, hail dents would only serve to fund a big-hp golfball build lol. But that's just it, now every time there's even the slightest poofteenth of a mm of rain inbound, everyone panics like it's armageddon.

Not always the case. The temperature has drop significantly is a really short period of time. If that happens then we are screwed.

Heh. I went for a bike ride last night around 9pm along the coast. Kinda eerie feeling with the lighting over to the east.

Why is this a 5 star thread? These weather threads are always a non-event. But to add to the outdoor evening stories, I floated around in my blow up pool yesterday afternoon drinking a beer, and now hope that if there are hail stones today they don't pierce the pool cover.

+1 on the lawn too. I've been hammering my lawn with water and weed and feed trying to get it soft and green for Xmas, plus pulling out a ute full of weeds from them and some garden beds. This rain had better assist as I didn't get around to watering them all weekend.

Severe Thunderstorm Warning Tuesday 6 December

Folks,

At 7:00am this morning the Bureau of Metrology issued a severe thunderstorm warning for this afternoon (Tuesday 6 December 2011) so please take care if you are in the following areas or expect to be on the roads this afternoon.

We are expecting damaging winds, large hail and heavy rainfall for people located along the coast of WA between Perth and Mandurah and inland to York and Dalwallinu and the wider areas bounded by Jurien Bay, Mount Magnet, Leinster, Hyden and Dwellingup.

Storms may be accompanied by VERY HEAVY RAINFALL conducive to FLASH FLOODING,
LARGE HAIL and DAMAGING WINDS that could cause DAMAGE TO HOMES AND PROPERTY.

The overall weather pattern is not unusual for this time of year, but these thunderstorms may produce severe weather in localised areas.

WHAT TO DO
FESA State Emergency Service [SES] advises people to secure loose items, move vehicles under cover and stay inside away from windows.

If there is lightning unplug electrical appliances and avoid using landline telephones.

If caught outside find shelter away from trees, power lines, storm water drains and streams.

If driving through heavy rain slow down and turn your lights on or if visibility becomes low pull over and park until it passes.

For SES assistance call 132 500. For more safety tips visit www.fesa.wa.gov.au

This warning is also available through TV and Radio broadcasts; the Bureau's website at www.bom.gov.au The next update will be issued by 10:00 am today.

Have been sitting on a Qantas plane that flew in to Perth domestic airport from Sydney, landing over 4 hours ago. However, we have been stuck on the tarmac since arriving. Passengers have not been able to disembark due to no airport ground staff being able to work aerobridges etc in these storm conditions (lightning etc). Looking out window of plane now and it doesn't look to be easing. We got on this plane in Sydney 9.5 hours ago and don't look to be getting off any time soon! The natives are getting very restless (and hungry). Not good.

TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING
for Damaging Winds, Large Hail and Heavy Rainfall
For people in parts of WA in an area bounded by Jurien Bay, Mount Magnet,
Leinster, Hyden and Bunbury and the coast. This includes people in, near or
between Perth, Mandurah, York, Dalwallinu, Narrogin, Bunbury and the coast.
Issued at 4:00 pm on Tuesday 6 December 2011

A surface trough near the west coast in combination with a middle level
disturbance approaching from the west is producing an area of showers and
thunderstorms. People are advised that there is the risk of SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS
during the remainder of Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Watching the radar, I thought that the 4.00 update would pretty much cancel the storm warning for us here in Perth... but it's been re-issued into the evening now.
In saying that, even though todays storms were huge on the radar and evident way before they got to Perth, last nights systems just built up out of nowhere right on the shore. So maybe more lightning, woot!

If there is lightning around, they don't let the airport workers out.
Hence no air bridges, people securing planes etc.
